Is there any non-D20 news out of GenCon?

The Cthulhu dice were not available. They were taking money with promises to ship them to you. A friend of mine ordered them but at 16 bucks I passed for the time being. If they had them there I would have been a little more tempted, though.

Prediction: 3.5 DMs will *always* find players

Razz, do you think not carrying the books is a good decision or a bad one?

    Looking for pulp/CoC minis

The RAFM minis are pretty fun and really capture the spirit of CoC. Though, since CoC is hardly a game that really needs many figs for combat, I don't get much use out of them other than the joy of painting them.

Prediction: 3.5 DMs will *always* find players

I suspect there will always be people who want to play 3x but the thing that comes to my mind is whether or not 4e is good enough to draw people to it in such numbers that they agree it is better. See, I enjoyed 1e MUCH more than 2e. In fact, I hated 2e. I really did not play much of it and...

    Creepy...

You are a total necromancer, yourself, bringing the horror thread back! Thanks, mang!

M&M Ultimate Power - No Review???

Yeah I would have to agree that Ultimate Power is a must have. Mastermind's Manual, well, um, I will be generous and say 'its not for everyone.'

Does D&D Need to Appeal to the Mainstream?

I don't think it currently appeals to the mainstream and if it did, it might be a fun game - but it wouldn't be D&D. There are some great games out there which appeal to the mainstream and families - Monopoly, Clue, Life, etc. But those games are very simple and do not have complicated rules...

Ever Heard Of A Gaming Cruise?

There seem to be cruises for a lot of niche interests these days. I have seen ads for the gamer's cruise. It doesn't really appeal to me that much as I think if I were on a cruise ship I doubt I would be very interested in gaming (of the paper and pencil variety). I would likely be more...

Racial insults for humans to toss at non-humans

Please keep this thread clean. My grandmother on my father's side was a demi-human and this thread is making me increasingly uncomfortable. :D

    Tannhäuser: The RPG?

This looks really neat. I wish I had seen it at GenCon or I definitely would have picked up a copy.

    Bendy Dungeon Walls?

I was really impressed by the gelatinous cube, as well.

Gary Gygax: A Brief Gencon Xl Report

I was one of the lucky people who got you to sign my 1st edition AD&D books as well as my autograph book. (You graciously made a reference to Futurama for me.) My wife got some wonderful pictures of you and I. I can't tell you what an honor it was to meet you as I have been a deep admirer of...

    Rate Gencon 2007!

I had a great time. I think it had to do with being with people I had not seen for awhile - Teflon Billy, Buttercup and Fus. It also had to do with meeting new people that were just as wonderful as I had thought. I ran quite a few games and met some great gamers. But at the same time, I...

What's been your longest break from playing RPGs?

In college we would break for the summer but I would still prep stuff for the next fall (and I bet I played in some pick up games during those summers). But the longest period probably would have been when I was in grad school for two years in a place I was unfamiliar with and without a car...

Is threat of death a necessary element of D&D?

Threat of Death? Yes and No. See, if the GM and the group wants to put together some epic story (and the group is mature enough) I think you can get rid of the fear of death and still put together a great story and almost act like a communal storytelling rather than PCs simply reacting to...

17% guessed 4th ed would be released, 83% did not.

I'd like to know what the basis of the rumors are. I mean, what makes people think that a stunning announcement will be given? I appologize if something as obvious as a press release from WotC was sent out saying 'stunning announcements given at GenCon.' :)

    Experiences with Monster Manual V

I don't have a whole lot to add other than merely flipping through MMV it looks like there are some really interesting and clever creatures in there that can truly enhance the gaming experience rather than just creatures to churn out and throw at PCs. Though, ironically, one of my favorite...

    Romance in RPGs

Before you involve yourself in a romantic plot, be careful that you have the right players. For a disaster, see this thread: http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?p=3697871#post3697871

    Player Meltdown; Input Requested

When we were in college, he used to get fussy if someone else had an open drink in the room. He would pull his short up over his nose and get kind of pissy. Believe me, it was quite a scene. And since this was college, at what point do guys pass up drinks? I had a pretty rowdy group of gamer...
