You don't have to be a criminal to want to avoid cops. ;) Maybe "engage with city officials and services."

What Does a "Successful" RPG Look Like?

No it's not. People play it all the time.

A friend was able to order it from Barnes and Noble yesterday.

What do YOU plan on doing with Daggerheart?

I have a setting I have used with both Monster of the Week and Savage Worlds wherein many creatures and people from Fantasyland poured in to modern Earth as regugees when The Big Bad took over. I would have to tweak it since the lack of a "manasphere" on Earth made drawing magical energy from...

    Minimalist and One Page RPGs

Another related question: do you know of and potentially enjoy and SOLO minimalist or one page RPGs?

    Minimalist and One Page RPGs

Do you enjoy minimalist and/or one page RPGs? Do you have a favorite or two? What do you think of the concept in general? Lasers and Feelings gets lots of love, and for good reason. It implies a lot and if you have a table that is really dedicated to the idea I am sure you could have lots of...

What Does a "Successful" RPG Look Like?

Another potential metric of success: did it influence other games that followed it and therefore have a legacy, even if itself is no longer played/read/purchased/whatever.

Maybe a poll using these criteria and whatever else pops up here?

What do YOU plan on doing with Daggerheart?

That is a good idea. For it to be a true Dresden-like one would need vampire and werewolf ancestries, of course. I wonder if any of the existing ones could be easily reskinned as such.

What do YOU plan on doing with Daggerheart?

I posted this in another thread but the idea is starting to take over my brain: Daggerheart of Dresden-like urban fantasy. In that genre of urban fantasy, all the action takes place in magical spaces with magical powers. Guns, cars and phones are incidental narrative elements. The important...

What Does a "Successful" RPG Look Like?

While I think success looks different to each company and creator, from sales to critical reeption to simply getting it out there, I think from a TTRPG consumer perspective the thing that makes me consider a game "successful" is if a) I see people talking about it in a positive way online, and...

What videogames are you playing in 2025?

Is there a continuity of "story" in MT2? That is, should I beat MT before I play MT2?

What videogames are you playing in 2025?

Since it was on sale, i decided to grab Monster Train. Really what pushed me over the edge was Damon from Gamescoop talking up Monster Train 2. I really like Slay the Spire (and deckbuilders in general). On just one playthrough, it is fun. it feels a little more complex than StS, but not by a...

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

I had a random thought on the way home: Daggerheart for urban fantasy. Specifically, the kind of urban fantasy exemplified by Dresden. While the world is modern, the tools and abilities of the characters in those kinds of stories are usually more typically fantastical. That is, you don't have to...

    Video Games You Wish Existed

Based on interviews I have listened to with developers and people who should know, I don't think this is true. Brute force training is definitely seeing diminishing returns, but approaches to both training and models are constantly evolving. I think it is naive to just assume they won't get...

    Video Games You Wish Existed

I honestly don't think this opposition will last. When this stuff gets really good, people will stop asking and eventually stop noticing. I think the same is true in the TTRPG space, but will probably take longer.

Right. If you want to "interrupt" the players without them failing or rolling with fear, you have to spend a fear(if I understand it correctly). UNLESS they do something that gives you a "golden opportunity" or has obvious, immediate narrative consequences.
