So a week and then again 5 more days after that? Thanks.

Critical Role Announces Age of Umbra Daggerheart Campaign, Starting May 29th

I have the dumbest of questions: is there an audio only/podcast version of Age of Umbra? I'd prefer to listen to it on my commute.

    Dragonbane general thread

I have not been able to run a DB campaign yet, and I don't know when I will be able to, but I am sorely tempted here.

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

I am inclined to NOT control spotlight for PCs -- particularly a solid group of players. It might be different running the game at a convention, but with my regular D&D nerds I would honestly expect them to be able to manage their own fun. I don't tell them what to do or how to play in D&D, and...

I guess I would expect players to not only advocate for themselves, but also work together intentionally to utilize all the tools the group as a whole has at their disposal.

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

It seems weird to worry about the players not sharing the spotlight. Everyone is there to play. What is driving this idea that it is a problem?

    D&D General 1s and 20s: D&D's Narrative Mechanics

I think that 3E was the first to officially introduce an automatic miss on a 1 and hit/crit on a 20, but I could be wrong. I don't remember if it was a rule during the 2E days or if we made it up.

What do YOU plan on doing with Daggerheart?

I finally was able to schedule my first in person DH game with my longtime local D&D group. I think I am going to do some light Campaign Frame design but nothing excessive. I want to run as close to As Written as possible the first time.

    New D&D Video Game Announced

I would be ecstatic if it were set in Eberron. That setting is criminally underused.

But are those modders or is Fortnite already implementing? Vader is an interesting one, too, because I believe I read that JEJ licensed his voice for the character in perpetuity.

    New D&D Video Game Announced

That is possible, but the director pedigree suggests defined protagonist. It's probably yet another attempt to get video gamers to care about Drizzt.

    Video Games You Wish Existed

I am almost certain we will see chatbots/LLMs incorporated into games to allow for more natural dialogue with NPCs, rather than just the scripted trees.

D&D 5E (2024) Psionics: What Do You Want?

Increase by 5 is too much. I'd go increase by 2 if anything. Better to just go Shadowdark style and have a flat 10+ability level.

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

I am seeing at least a few people fiddling with Hits and Armor. I feel like that scares people a little, and is exactly the kind of thing you want experience with before changing.

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

Interestingly, the "reflavor" section has a very strong "keep the mechanics the same" vibe. And there really isn't much of any actual advice for creating setting rules. I have a suspicion that the game may well get an "Advanced GM Guide" that addresses design for this stuff.

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

Something that is bugging me slightly and I am not even sure why: over on the daggerheart subreddit, tons of people are going all in on homebrew and houserules while admitting to not having played the game at all. I know that RPGs are very DIY, but this is a totally new game and it feels weird...

    New D&D Video Game Announced

Ok, I am having a legit Mandela effect here. I KNOW I typed 2030, and I KNOW I saw it previously quoted as 2030. Does anyone else smell toast?

    New D&D Video Game Announced

Yeah, the information looks to be sparse at best. The most I could glean was that a verteran developer at a new AAA studio was likely to bring in more investment, but that itself did not correlate to success. Making video games is really hard, I suppose.

D&D 5E (2024) Psionics: What Do You Want?

A few years ago, I did a Ragnar Ultra where I ran a total of 40 or so miles in less than 36 hours over 5 or 6 runs. That is the most exhausted I have ever been. It took about 4 or 5 days to feel good, and at least a week to feel like I could go run 8 miles again.
