D&D 5E (2014) "5E is of no interest to me" - really? Already?

I"m reasonably convinced by the current efforts that WotC get that they need to do something different in 5e. They've vaguely admitted D&D isn't going where they want it to go, which is a good thing. They've brought back one of the most famous designers in D&D history--definitely a good thing...

Dragons in the Dungeons of D&D

A few more... C9 Castle Caldwell A black dragon in the final dungeon X1 There is a green dragon and a sea dragon on or around the isle of dread X5 There is a red dragon in the Great Pass (X4 has a black dragon as a wondering monster as well) X7 THere's a Dragon Turtle, if that counts DA 3...

Dragons in the Dungeons of D&D

Off the top of my head, there's a 7HD red dragon in B5. There was a lair of two white dragons inG2 and an ancient red in G3. There was a green dragon lair in X1 on the isle of dread I think. One interesting example of a dragon encounter is the suggested adventure in the 1e Greyhawk box set...

Any resources for running Dark Sun using PF?

There was an official conversion in Dragon Magazine No. 319 (the May 2004 issue) and a parallel feature in Dungeon Magazine No. 110.

    Gone but not forgotten

I think what we're seeing is we're now at a time when the people who created the RPG hobby in the 1970s are now reaching old age. No surprise really.

I've tried to sync this video onto my iPad as a podcast and I get a message 'this podcast cannot be played on this iPad'.

How do you feel about the future of D&D after the official announcements?

I'm generally an optimist and cautiously hopeful, but I voted neutral. How much can we feel either way at this point with the information we have so far, or the lack of--no release date, no specifics on the edition, (almost) nothing of what will be left out or included? There's only some very...

D&D 4E Things from 4E Not Done Well

Alignment--I can understand the desire to reform AL but the 4e fix was terrible. Why bother having LG if you're not going to have the other 8? Core races. The new races were fine as non-core alternatives, and I like the dragonborn, but were the ELadrin really worth giving up the Gnome?

    Game Stores in Chicago?

Might not be practical but isn't Games plus at least accessible by mass transit (I'm sure someone with better knowledge will chip in here). I note this because I've been in a similar situation being in Chi-town without a car and considered this, but never tried. It did seem possible though...

Pathfinder 1E Tell me about the Pathfinder setting

Given Eric Mona's involvement with the project, similarity to Greyhawk is not surprising

How are the new races coming along?

To me so far, the addition of three new races into the core rules is the biggest departure from previous editions, at least in terms of feel. The dropping of the half orc and gnome is less so, since they're still playable races. All previous editions had had the same basic choice of core races...

Dragon Roots Magazine DIDN'T sell the 4e Killed Gary shirts

It sounds as if its possible that these shirts were made by four friends who showed up wearing them, and they weren't for sale anywhere. If that's what happened then obviously it was in poor taste but perhaps its best to to get too worked up about it. All this speculation on who was selling...

What draws kids into D&D/RPGs nowadays?

I come from the generation that started with the Red Box (Moldvay edition for me) or some similar version of D&D, as my entry product. It seems that lots of people who started around then started D&D with one of versions of the Basic D&D set and then moved to AD&D and/or other RPGs. (I...

What do you think about the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting Book

How many pages is the adventure actually--I'm guessing that it's more than a couple? How many pages are in the whole book? I for one support including short adventures in a book like this. It gives new (or perhaps experienced) DMs an adventure they can use immediately. As long as it's...

Edition Signature Settings (and a farewell to the Realms)

I wouldn't characterise 'Greyhawk' as 'barely used'. It was probably the 2nd most popular setting after FR. It saw lots of stuff published in Dragon/Dungeon. Plus, the Living Greyhawk campaign has been successful.

3e->4e: The origin of the Defender Class

The other important limiting factor for a rogue is that he only does good damage on sneak attacks, and there's all sorts of situations where sneak attacks are not possible. My experience with rogues, given monsters immune to SA and all the flanking issues, is that Rogues benefit from SA far...
