Kobo sucks. Scammed me once, I won't fall for it again.

    Conveying Setting Information

I run in Tal'Dorei from Critical Role. I have a blurb with my changes, but in game I use Bold Italics (which I can no longer seem to use here) for terms players should look up.

How do you curate your online groups as a DM?

I have a recruit thread in roll20 for each game. In it, I lay out the game, what I'm seeking in a player, and the guidelines for making characters. I also ask my current players to weigh in. Any proposal that follows the guides OR offers some thought on why they didn't, gets a reply, usually...

D&D General How Long Have You Gamed With Your Current Group

One of my players has been with me since 2000. He is the the only one and we played all sorts of things as the players around us have come and gone.

D&D General How long has your Current Group gamed together?

I have been running my circus campaign for just over five years. Two of the sessions began February 2019. One of the sessions began a year later. I am also running a sort of bespoke World of Darkness game in which one of my players I have been gaming with for over 20 years, though not always the...

    D&D General Recommendations? Voice-to-Text for Roll20

I'm recovering from and stroke a looking to get back into my games. They're all text-based, and will remain so as long as possible. I have players who won't do voice, so that's not an option, but my typing hasn't returned to the level it was. Anyone have experience with Voice-to-Text and...

    D&D 5E (2024) You're not planning on getting 2024 D&D? Why is that?

I chose "Perfectly Happy" even though it didn't include 5e in it. I haven't looked at a new hotness, and have no opinion (though some folks I tend to agree with have voiced some issues). I'm just satisfied with what we've built over the last five years. Don't need new books.

D&D 5E (2014) So, I kind of want to stay with 2014 rules. What are my longterm options?

I Don't plan to change to the new rules and don't see an issue. My games are on a brief break - on account of the real world giving me a stroke - but I've had no interest in the 2024 hullabaloo, and my players haven't shown any either. Why should it be any fuss at all, sticking with our current...

D&D General We Hardly Knew Ye: NPCs in your campaigns that were gone too soon

Recently, to tie in an event to the larger world, I crafted an NPC. She worked in the relevant field, had relevant knowledge to share, and even - I thought - an interesting hook. But she didn't immediately begin to spout everything she knew so the PCs left and went to ask the butcher instead.

    Poll: Heavily Non-Canon Star Wars

One main difference here, from a GMing perspective, is that its very little work to create. I began with a pretty simple premise, and the history and setting I hope to run now grew from that premise. My main worry in all this was wondering if all that history was putting too much on players...

    Poll: Heavily Non-Canon Star Wars

This was exactly what my son warned me of. "Everyone who play for three years in the other will play this one. No-one else will. And this is what my friend warned me of. To be up front with the changes.

    Poll: Heavily Non-Canon Star Wars

Hi all, I've been toying with an idea for a while, and a friend suggests I check to see if there's interest before I got too far down the rabbit hole. I ran, for a few years, a Star Wars Game in which I changed the Canon just a bit. At the end of Episode VI, Luke Turned, Vader Took Over, and...

D&D 5E (2014) D&D Lied To Me. Gp vs Sp

I took it a bit further. I tell my players to imagine a gold piece as a $100 bill... in 1970. 1GP is enough to live on for a week, pretty comfortably in my games. I keep the prices for most magics as they are, but I let the prices for goods and services needed in every day things low, to...

D&D 5E (2014) Druids seen in the Wild (Shape?)

I have seen not only more Moon Druids than any other circle, but in nearly six years since I returned to D&D, I have seen more Moon Druids than all other circles combined.
