RIP - The Rogue Improvement Project

Celebrim mentioned in another thread that the rogue was "subpar", which made me look at it a little more closely. When I did Project Pheonix, I thought it was all right, so I didn't change anything, but looking at it now... yeah, it needs some oomph. For those of you unfamiliar with PP, what I...

    Upper Krust: Large Size Pricing?

You'd be better off posting this in UK's forum - most folks here have no idea what you're talking about, and you'll get much better feedback there. :)

Project Phoenix fighter discussion (Forked from: Feat Points)

Given that spellcaster power increases exponentially, a fighter will never be able to keep up unless you give them supernatural abilities. I agree that fighters need more high-level stuff, but higher-level spells also need to be beaten with a nerf stick. Case in point. Those should be epic...

Project Phoenix fighter discussion (Forked from: Feat Points)

Well, yeah. But a large part of that is the spells, which I've also adjusted (probably not far enough, but it's a start). But Runestar hit on the real reason the fighter sucks (which I figured out last night, after some thought): There aren't enough high-level feats to support it. The...

    Feat Points

I forked the fighter discussion to a new thread, so we can quit hijacking this one. Getting back to the original point: I'm attaching the system I made. It works on a decimal system, where a balanced feat = 1.00. If you want to convert it to yours, just multiply everything by 10. The...

Project Phoenix fighter discussion (Forked from: Feat Points)

For those of you just joining our program, we're discussing the Project Phoenix fighter (and other classes), which can be found here I'm not going to argue that point, because you're right. I've seen many splatbook PrCs that should really have been nothing more than a few feats or a feat chain...

    Epic/Immortal Prestige Classes

Having the ability cost 25K each time is a bit much, don't you think? Granted, I don't know what kind of game you play, but wouldn't basing it off resurrection instead of true res make it a bit more balanced? I mean, anyone can buy a contingent resurrection spell, and resurrection does...

    Feat Points

Not if you give the player a choice of abilities. That's the whole reason I went with varying paths. The monk, for example, has five different fighting styles, and several abilities in each. No two monks will be the same. And my version can't because...? They still get their normal bonus feats...

    Feat Points

Latecomer to this discussion, since I don't stop by as often as I used to. I have tried to do a feat valuation system a couple times myself (I think I even mentioned it to you, Syl), but every time I gave up because a) the PHB feats are, by and large, pretty well balanced; and b) it's a PITA to...

Enlightened Grognard: Reducing the Skill List

Latecomer to the thread, but I thought I'd add my two cents. I voted for Acrobatics, Craft/Forgery, Decipher Script, Perception, and Stealth (you did intend to fold MS into that, right?). When I did Project Phoenix, it started out as a simple overhaul of the skill system, then got out of hand...

    Fixing force spells

Hehe. :) So we're in agreement on that point - making it something that'll hold back the ravening hordes, but not a more powerful lieutenant is a good thing. Course, if it's "relatively impenetrable" (and I did catch that the first time), then a horde of orcs would eventually break it down...

    Spellcasting Changes

Try not to add too many modifiers, or it'll get overly complicated. Encumbrance, for example, could probably go - not many people use it. The rest are already included in the game, so it shouldn't be a huge change. With his feet? Yes they do - that's why I ditched IC feats entirely...

    Spellcasting Changes

More dice rolling is not necessarily a good idea, especially in combat (where most spells are cast). Making spellcasters make a check every time they cast a spell is tedious and discouraging, and a huge nerf. I've always thought ASF was a dumb idea. When I did Project Phoenix, I replaced it...

Simple idea to "fix" the magic weapon problem

I don't really see the use for such a thing. IME, PCs rarely have more than 1-2 weapons at all, let alone that they use regularly. Enchantment beyond a +1 is utterly useless anyway, except to add an attack bonus and a few points of damage. I certainly wouldn't want to nullify any special...

    Fixing force spells

How can you wear it down with "small blows" if only a strike that exceeds its hit points will destroy it? Impenetrable barrier = absolute. Same as save or die, or immunities; it's a game-breaker. OTOH, TS's idea of using 5 or 10 hp/level could be a better fix. Exactly. I (and I think TS, too)...

    Fixing force spells

Tequila Sunrise's thread gave me an idea on how to deal with force spells. Okay, it's mostly been done before - 4E, and TS to some degree - but I have some different ideas. Basically, ALL force effects have hit points. Bigby's interposing hand has hit points and AC (though none of the others...

D&D 3.x Any good Homebrew Monk Variants? [3.5e]

Here, I'll save you some trouble: Project Phoenix: Monk. I'm rather proud of that one, personally... it's one of my favorite revised classes (though the sorcerer might be a close second).

    Cloverfield - The Immortal's Handbook 4E to 3.5 Conversion

:) We're pretty much on the same page. *nodnod* True. I was guessing, as I said - I'd base HD on the creature's actual size, but I had no idea how big a bear that size would be.

    Cloverfield - The Immortal's Handbook 4E to 3.5 Conversion

Don't shoot the messenger - I'm just pointing out what UK came up with. When I converted everything to ECLs, I came up with ECL 13, which is around CR 8-9 (I think I did that right; I can never remember if ECL = 2/3 CR or the other way around). Whales don't have tails to speak of; they have...

    Cloverfield - The Immortal's Handbook 4E to 3.5 Conversion

I was bored and thought I'd pop in. :) Only problem is, the CRs in the MM are wrong. Going by UK's CRs, a T Rex is CR 13. In point of fact, a blue whale is a hell of a lot bigger (just over 100 feet long and up to 190 tons, according to Wikipedia) - firmly in the Colossal bracket. If you want...
