    D&D 3.x A message to the 3.5ers

I am always astounded when people on discussion forums complain about actual discussion taking place. Isn't that the whole point? :\

    D&D 3.x A message to the 3.5ers

In which case the best course of action would be to close the entire subforum and wait patiently until GenCon 2008. Or whenever.

    D&D 4E Mongoose and 4e?

I can see Mongoose wait until the dust settles, and establish their pocket core books line as a small but profitable evergreen product line for the disaffected 3.5 fans and their new recruits. :)

    D&D 4E Paizo and 4e.

Precisely. ;) Also, let's keep in mind that right until the 4e announcement, this has been a 3.x-oriented site. A lot of people come here who have invested heavily (in terms of money and emotion) into the then current game. Why the surprise when they express disagreement with the changes? A...

POLL: Would you play D&D without a Skill System?

I have played in skill-less D&D games and would do it again without blinking. It is not a serious issue. That said, I like skills, but not all of them - the idea of regulating social interaction with them isn't to my taste. Gather Information/Bluff/Intimidate/etc. isn't something I want the...

Do you mix high fantasy and sci-fi?

Yes, of course, I mix science fiction with fantasy elements. My earliest fantasy influences usually featured some sort of technology, and my recent campaigns have also had a very strong SF/planetary romance component. The tech I use is "retrofuturistic", reminiscent of 30s to 50s SF (Leigh...

    Tegal Manor! (Updated!)

No way in hell. 128 pages. As per Clark's recent post: WRT the update: my intention was to a) recreate the module's OD&D experience for modern players, b) flesh out the contents to make the environment more complex and interactive (instead of mostly passive haunting effects), c) expand on...

D&D 4E Why no beginner boxed set for 4E? [Set Confirmed in post 10]

That's very cool, and I say it as someone who doesn't even like the idea of 4e.

    Module Auteurs

Paul Jaquays: - complex 3D environments with secrets within secrets, lost sub-levels, several inter-level connections - heavy focus on lost shrines - eccentric NPCs - almost always a few halfling NPCs used for comic relief

Game Day mini = Spined Devil

Are you also talking about the rust monster, Clark? I am (genuinely) curious about your answer.

    Favorite 2e modules?

The only good adventures I can remember from the period came from Dungeon Magazine: Asflag's Unintentional Emporium Deadly Treasure Lady of the Mists ...and a few others. Ruins of Undermountain was pretty good for the maps; I did a lot of improvisation with it.

What 1E Adventure Am I Thinking Of?

His artwork in Deathtrap Dungeon and City of Thieves was really outstanding - iconic, skillfully executed and indeed very sword&sorceryish.

What actually occured between TSR and Role Aids?

Which is precisely one of the reasons which made the supplement line successful. I know that when I saw a review about a "Demons" boxed set, I immediately became interested, and bought it soon afterwards (Demons II; that's the only one the store had in stock). It wasn't even a good D&D...

Would you buy new 100% compatable 1E modules?

They are more like modules from the "second" period of TSR (the move from pastel to colour, e.g. Bonehill, Slavers, etc.). John A. Turcotte is pretty good. Look at Where the Fallen Jarls Sleep here and see if you like it. Of course, Stefan Poag's Endless Tunnels of Enlandin is great as well...

D&D 4E 4E boon or bust for Old School support?

By writing style, phrases (e.g. 1Eers) and typical mistakes (e.g. you are --> your), my guess would be "Axe Mental". ;) As for OSRIC, the funny thing about it is that the document doesn't do anything the basic documents don't allow you to do: you can create the same stuff working from the...

Would you buy new 100% compatable 1E modules?

Yes, I have bought a fair number of them, and will buy more, although a bit more selectively than I used to - some publishers, I believe, are simply not producing quality content. So far, I have been really happy with the following: Expeditious Retreat Press: all three of their short print...

On taking power away from the DM

Much of this debate is over rules... while IME it has more, a lot more to do with changing game culture, and an increasingly fashionable view (especially in "indie" gaming, but present in the mainstream as well) that DM-player power relations are inherently unfair. More often than not, this view...

    Name of Tekumel Maggot-Deity?

If nothing else, it is a great inspiration - for both strange cults/cultures and an interesting spin on dungeoneering. Be sure to pick up a reprint of The Book of Ebon Bindings; it's a fictional book on Tekumelani demon summoning, with grim details - and a wonderful, intelligent sense of humour...
