Monster Manual: I miss the fluff.

I know that's the idea, but that's not going to happen. ;)

Monster Manual: I miss the fluff.

This news saddens me. I really used to enjoy reading the Monster Manual to get some new ideas or inspiration. I can't see me reading crunch for any reason except immediate use. As to the Dragon idea and the multitude of fluff books I think this is what they are intending. But to me Dragon...

    Questions from KoTS

Ok, I've read through the quick rules and have some questions that I can't find the answers to. If they are in the module just point me there or if easier please just answer here. I know that there is melee and ranged, but what is the difference between :melee: and :bmelee: ? I couldn't...

New OOTS #560 - Meanwhile, His Teammate was in Rhodes

This strip is so chock full of goodness I just can't believe it. Rich is an awesome writer.

    Craft/Profession

This is an interesting discussion so I think I'll throw my 2 copper pieces in here. I actually think that profession or crafting skills should take the place of other skills. The implication is that they were learning this craft before adventuring and that is their skill set. It might not...

    The Castellan Borderlands (Updated 08/27/08)

Awesome work. I use Hex Mapper myself, mostly because it's easy and I do really love those simple hex maps. They remind me of the Expert Set maps which I loved. I never really thought to see what kind of editing I could do, but I'll have to look into it. Thanks for the info.

    The Failure of Gleemax

Really? I haven't been there for a while because I can't stand the graphics scheme of the site, but this is awful news. When I want to read about a setting I don't want to have to go through every other setting out there even if I like them. At least I still have canonfire, I think. ;)

    The Castellan Borderlands (Updated 08/27/08)

I really like what I see so far especially those maps. I love those style maps, what did you use to make them?

Why does WotC have to apologize for making money?

Well, to be honest, I believe a great deal of 4E is built around this idea. The entire delve system is designed to encourage minis. As to the main point, I don't begrudge them making money, I just don't like that I won't be getting what I want from just the books, it sounds like too much...

Are you bothering to read DUNGEON anymore? (and level index)

To me, Dungeon and Dragon have ended publication. It sucks to have something that in one form or another been with me since 1985 gone, but there's nothing I can do about it.

    D&D 4E Rate your interest in 4e.

I voted a 3. I'm going to buy the books, but most of what I read doesn't really thrill me. I'll play it a bit before I make a decision one way or another, but it just doesn't look like the game I grew up with anymore.

    New GSL Announcement

I think I was public with my worry that it could be a possibility. I'm glad it isn't the road they took, it actually makes me more amiable to 4E.

    My WoTC Interview

For the life of me I can't figure out how pick-up games would work. You'd have to have a bunch of short adventures around I guess. I was always a campaign guy, not an adventure guy so maybe I just don't see this right... :(

D&D 4E Monte Cook on licensing (and 4E in general?)

And if it isn't. None of the previews have shown me this. I'm still getting the 'core' three books, but I don't know when I'll get a chance to try this game. 3.5 turned me off some, but 4 is turning me off a lot. I'm going back to Marvel Super Heroes, FASERIP here I come!

Which WotC settings in 4th Edition?

Actually that sounds a lot like Golarion, Paizo's new setting. They are really getting that pulp setting vibe going. I'm sure having those awesome old stories they're republishing around the building doesn't hurt. ;)

WotC_GregB talks about using a laptop at the game table.

The one rule I will never bend on is 'No laptops at the game table.' I will never bend on it either. I don't need it as a DM, and as a player I find it too seductive. Others mileage may vary, but that's one thing I can't stand.

    D&D 3.x 3.5 is Anime! Wait, what?

Thanks for the reply Amphimir. I knew that at least Valyrian Greatswords were light, because of their make, I always wondered how useful the weapon actually would be, even when light enough to use. Your links help greatly.

D&D 4E Alignment, 4e, you, and your paladins.

Personally I like the old alignment system, but I notice too many people use it as a strait-jacket. For people that aren't connected in some way to the other planes alignment should mostly be a guide. Only for those who are connected to the other planes does alignment become a real force...

    D&D 3.x 3.5 is Anime! Wait, what?

As an aside to the thread, which I think is awesome, the big sword thing only disturbs me in one place. The Greatswords in Martin's Song of Ice and Fire seem so unwieldy to me, but I guess the magical steel makes them usable. Any of you who LARP or SCA have experience with trying out weapons...

Which WotC settings in 4th Edition?

The only setting I'd really like to see some support for is Greyhawk, but I doubt that I will.
