True, but I was forced to use a map board in 3E also. It was too difficult in the group I was with, which admittedly had too many true wargamers, to get by without it. I'm seeing it even worse in 4E.

Not at all. I'm saying the names are lame in what I see as their purpose: to tell me what the monster does. I've discussed it above, and don't feel I need to defend my critique of WoTC's naming skills any more. If you like it, kudos, I don't.

Maybe X-Com. We can all have action points per round which determine movement and actions. Plus it was just an observation. I'm mostly a 4th Edition supporter, but when I notice something I will mention it, usually in jest.

Now that I have enough info to run something I'm testing the waters with my group. Of course my group is different; we all play RPGs just not as a group, mostly we get together for board-games.

I've actually been thinking this about the way encounters are done. It's like moving from the world map to the battle map (in some cases literally) that happens in Console RPGs. I'm glad to see it wasn't just the insane gibbering of a fractured brain.

As long as there are stats for the creature itself without the extra video-gamey cheese added on I'll be fine with this. I just wish that they would realize what they think of as evocative and cool is usually hackneyed and lame.
