    Where's the Bard?

Bards have appealed to me since 1st Edition. I like the mix of rogue and mage, with the knowledge based skills. The class feels to me like a good mix of several other classes but still has its own flavor. I know the knowledge based skills might not mean much in some games, but the games I've...

    Where's the Bard?

This is something I'm wondering too. I know the Bard won't make the initial cut, but hopefully it is not too long of a wait. I mostly DM, but when I play I love playing Bards.

    From D&D to Fiction

A few things I've read lately have got me thinking. How many fictional worlds began as D&D worlds? I've read in different places that Feist's Midkemia and Blizzard's Azeroth began as game worlds and grew from there. Anyone know of any others?

WFRP/40K games shut down by GW [merged]

That game was good enough to get me over my virulent hatred of GW and start purchasing one of their properties. Thank goodness they destroyed any chance of that before I made a mistake and gave them money.

    Dungeon and dragon WOTC forums

The whole thing has me worried. Dragon and Dungeon are currently free as a teaser. Now is the time they should be SPECTACULAR. That is how they will sell the DDI. Plus, I know they are busy, but doesn't that imply there isn't anyone who's job is the DDI or even just the Dragon and Dungeon...

Worlds & Monsters: humans are boring??

The funny thing is that, since we're humans creating it, all of the races have the human baseline. All the other races are just amalgams of human concepts. I think that's why I like antrocentric fantasy, because I can see where it feels right or wrong. We don't really know how an elf, dwarf...

    Halflings: An Identity Crisis

I hate kender but I agree that if they want to take halflings to a whole new realm of lore they should just rename them and be done with it.

    Halflings: An Identity Crisis

Or maybe Game of Thrones when that game makes its return. It's by far the most dangerous world I can imagine playing in, at least early on. There should reasonably be no magical healing and almost no magic of any kind. It's a world I really want to run, but I imagine it would have a mortality...

    Halflings: An Identity Crisis

Well, since MERP is gone, D&D is the closest thing someone wanting to play LOTR would have. As to the rarity of halfling adventurers, I'd imagine that adventurers make up the clear minority of all the races. I really doubt that even in the POL settings that the adventurers outnumber the shop...

    Halflings: An Identity Crisis

I agree wholeheartedly with the OP here. I know there are many who don't like the traditional halfling or many of the traditional fantasy tropes, but I enjoy them. My halflings are always going to be hobbits. I like hobbits and if I'm running the world that's how it's going to work. I think...

D&D 4E How do you feel about 4E right *now*? (week of 1/21/08)

I'm still directly in the middle. I need to see actual mechanics. I think they're doing a great job with the story-line / world building that they've done, but I mostly design my own world. So, until I actually see the rules I'll have to say I'm neither thumbs up or thumbs down.

Pathfinder 1E Why Didn't Paizo Do their Own "Dragon/Dungeon?"

Mine ended with issue 4 and I re-upped for 5. Since, for me at least, Dungeon and Dragon are dead and gone (I absolutely refuse to read them online because I physically can't) I need a monthly fix. I'm also looking at Kobold Quarterly.

    Game vs Game System

But if you read the 3e core books, how much about Greyhawk could you really glean from them? I think almost none. A few names and that's it. This new level of fluff is much more intensive, and for those of us who like our own worlds, intrusive.

    Game vs Game System

I believe I have a Warduke figure at home, but I'm sure that's not what you meant. ;) I sort of agree about the lack of openness I'm seeing in 4e. As an example, when reading R+C all I could think of was it's too bad these guys wrote so much history, I'm just going to chuck it. I know not...

Spotlight Interview on Worlds and Monsters

Luckily since I don't use miniatures I can still use Colossal monsters to my hearts content. Score one for the imagination!

D&D 4E 4E Worlds: what are my options? What are you going to do?

I'm thinking of creating a world somewhat based on the lands from the comic book Fables. Basically any infinite number of fantastic worlds connected by portals. I'm planning on keeping the individual worlds small, maybe a small continent for the largest. It gives me a modularity and room for...

Are you excited about the Forgotten Realms setting changes?

I didn't vote because my choice wasn't obvious. I like what I'm seeing in general, but I'll wait until I can read the product to decide. I've been a fan of the Realms since the Grey Box, but haven't run a game there since they took back Sembia from player control and all of my hard-work was...

FR Update at WotC-Year of the Ageless One

I've always liked the Realms and these changes seem interesting. There are some questions though. I've always wondered why a city as powerful as Waterdeep never tried to expand its influence inland at all, become a true city-state or the seed of a new kingdom? How did Cormyr expand so much...

    DDI vs. Dragon/Dungeon mags

I was a Dragon/Dungeon subscriber since the '80s for Dragon and since inception for Dungeon and I do not intend to subscribe to DDI. I just hate reading actual content on-line. Anything more than a small amount of text and I start getting bad headaches. I can't see me taking the excess cost...

    What are your Halflings like?

The halflings in my campaign world are very hobbit-like. They prefer settled, civilized lives and excel at the domestic arts like no other. In fact many kingdoms are judged by how many halfling realms they have in their land. Halflings are renowned for their abilities as craftsmen and...
