    A positive D&D thread (for a change)

I was mostly kidding, since I cut my teeth on the old S series. That's a true measure of a gamer, how many times they keep trying to get through the Tomb of Horrors or Keraptis' lair.

I thought we're trying to encourage him to keep playing? :)

    Farewell to thee D&D

Personally when I did play I would choose the fighter because I didn't want to think much. I mostly DM, and when I played I wanted simplicity. One of my problems with 4E is that now all of the classes are the mage. They all have powers and power management, and that turns me off. I haven't...

    DM Entitlement...

I was getting more of a Dr. Girlfriend vibe there myself. Also the faint scent of Rifts *shudder*.

What do you think about the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting Book

I look at Mulhorand as a society in a state of static decadence, along with Unther. They had been ruled by actual godlings for millenia so there was no real need to innovate. It would have been interesting to see where they went without that power involved, but alas. Note, I thought they did...

Need Help with Describing Types of Terrain

I like this page a lot, so I'll try to add some info to it. I just set up my account and this evening, after work, I'll be ready to roll.

    Who Will Get the Axe?

If they sold DDM as non-random I would buy them so I doubt this was much of a revelation to them.

    Who Will Get the Axe?

I want a massively wealthy player to buy D&D and run it without worrying about profit. I intend for it to be me after I perfect cold fusion and become wealthier than the 5 richest kings of Europe. *sigh*

    DM Entitlement...

I agree with that. If they can explain to me how to fit their idea into my setting I'll agree with them. On the second point, I hate drow and therefore in my world there usually aren't any drow. I do have fallen or 'dark' elves that look like other elves except for their eyes. I had someone...

    DM Entitlement...

I've DM'd for a long time so I figured I'd add my opinions here. I mostly start from the setting and then decide if anything is out. I didn't really have to excise much until 3.x, except psionics which I've disallowed since 1st edition. My problem with 4th edition is that I've been able to...

    Pathfinder 1E Golarion - A Gamer's World

Maybe it's fresh in that it is moving past the deconstructing phase that Eberron was representing. Golarion is distilling the essence of many classical settings into one, and I think that it's needed now more than ever.

    Pathfinder 1E Golarion - A Gamer's World

I see Eberron as an interesting setting, but it doesn't seem that the DM can really do much with it. At least with Golarion there are enough different types of areas that I feel I can do my own thing.

If Paizo had gone 4E ...

I don't see where Golarion itself is any version or edition. It is a setting. To me they are version-neutral since I convert things to whatever heavily homebrewed version I'm using at the time anyways. Heck I still play pre-FTA Greyhawk.

If Paizo had gone 4E ...

I currently get the Adventure Paths, the Companion, and the Chronicles series and I doubt I'm going to Pathfinder. I'm also not sure if I'm going to 4E. I just really like their work and they are fun reads. Great writers, editors, world-builders and fellow 'Hawkers deserve my money.

    Information Management...

Actually I have trouble with it. I have a slight double-vision, but can usually read well. Not with the 4E books, I don't know if it's the color or font. It's one reason I can't devour them like all of my previous edition choices.

    D&D needs to grow up

I agree with that and I think it's not accidental. D&D I think is so based on pulp adventure and heroic fantasy that true grit is very hard to model. WFRP2 is good, and I'm waiting to see how ASOIF turns out. I think it may be the new "Grit King"

    I have a job.

So Waffle House was hiring... ;) Seriously, good for you. I had an unfortunate hiatus last year and I wouldn't wish anyone to be out of work if they didn't want to. And I'm glad you can look at the website more closely, it's faster but I still have periods where the load times are in the 5-10...

    Got Hobbits?

I've always liked Hobbits and so they always appear as such in my campaign worlds. I know it's not hardcore, but I don't care. They helped introduce me to Fantasy and as such will always have a home in my game worlds.

Forked Thread: Started playing D&D without being introduced by someone else?

I was really interested in mythology as a kid, and I found the Monster Manual fascinating. We had a store nearby (Waldorf, MD) called Book-Ends which had a display case full of modules, and it really pulled me in, but I actually ended up with the Red Box which caused some strife since I was...

Who's the Demon Lord of Disease?

In traditional mythology I believe that Astaroth is the Lord of Disease, but I don't know if there ever was an Astaroth statted out.
