yeah, i know some of these are gone. but i still have them bookmarked.
edit: also paizo and gitp.com
of course, this would mean they hire a bunch of mediocre hacks to write products for them. as the good designers would start their own companies and produce better less error riddled products.
the same is true of 1ed too. you have a base save in the table.
but the actual save may vary just like in the DC for the newest editions.
in 1ed this would be in +1, +2, +3, +4 etc... or minus to the save. only the DM would know that.
they also have less than 1 HD. (HD = 1 -1)
so your fighters got free whacks on them. 1 per lvl. ;)
per that obscure rule on the bottom of the combat chart for fighters.
they are the top of the food pyramid so they are fewer in number than all the other levels of the pyramid scheme
edit: besides you can make Plant monsters. Attack of the Colossal Killer Tomato
did you ever roll multiple dice?
1ed had init for groups. so you could just roll a different colored die for each combatant if you had that many different dice.
dice pools are for ultimate power DMs.
thank heavens, no.
played in a campaign that went from lvl 3 to 18th before i finally quit. it lasted 6 months playing every other sunday.
i kept thinking it would get better and it never did.
3-4 hrs/session; 5 session/week; 50 weeks/year; for 10+ years ( about a month shy of 11yrs)
~900 hrs of roleplay to gain 1 lvl
max lvl by the end of the campaign was 11th.
long sleepless nights reading. :p
i took vacation time from work last year to finish.
crunch time is end of may thru july. publishers wait to send stuff it seems.

1edADnD DMG (1979 revised) it was in the monster index in the back but not called ThAC0 so much as just a score to hit AC 0. hope that helps
