help me brainstorm for my new military/horror campaign

One thing you could do is have creatures created by nightmares/dreams starting to venture into the real world. Keep it rare and send them all over the world to stop these creepy beasts that are showing up. Not only do you have a bunch of different creatures you can use, but also you have the...

Ebberon - If not guns, then what?

If you want some inspiriational material for a 'magic-firearm' type army I suggest reading Harry Turtledove's Darkness series. I think the first one is "Into the Darkness". You get infantry with rifles that shoot magic-fueled energy and dragons dropping magic-fueled bombs.

Dungeon and Dragon submission guidelines are up

I shudder to think how big the slush pile is. I imagine there was a time period where they had all the material for the final issues but couldn't tell anybody yet they were going away. I think this was about the time all the "Paizo's black hole" threads started showing up... Hmmm..wonder if...

Opinion needed on class to play in a party

Wow, 3 divine casters already and several decent hand-to-hand fighters. I would go for an arcane caster of some sort myself. Perhaps an Artificer? That would give the group trapfinding as well.

    Adventures Within The Sewer

You might want to check out Dragon #326, it has an article about sewers in a fantasy setting. The big thing to worry about in the sewers are the albino owlbears. Kids buy baby owlbear chicks at the market, but as the chicks grow they get nasty. So the kids chuck the baby owlbears into the...

What 3 WOTC books to buy????

I would get these: Expanded Psionics Handbook: very nice to have around esp. if you're playing Eberron Draconomicon: Oodles of fun Magic Item Compendium: My players were practically drooling... that said it is actually a very useful book for the DM as well.

Horrible games that you couldn't resist. . .

"I'm asking this question as someone who understands the appeal of "badness". I've watched House of the Dead four times for a reason." Ye gods..I'm filled with both horror and respect in equal measure.

    Paladin Question...

There are two things in this scenario IMO. 1. The Paladin did the whole "heroic sacrifice" thing and saved his buddies while taking out the big-bad. That pretty much means he's all done as far as his obligations go. He can stay in Valhalla (or wherever) without any problems. 2. That being...

Sigh. I can't do Warhammer. How's about Iron Kingdoms?

I've been playing in an IK game for awhile and it's been a lot of fun. It's still DnD and has a great setting. It's very dark and gritty with gunpowder and some magical steampunk stuff. The Monsternomicon is a great monster book and the Gunmage class is all sorts of cool. There are a few...

Interview with Scott Rouse, Chris Perkins & Bill Slavicsek

Hey Morrus, thanks for doing this. The WOTC folks "Scott, Chris and Bill" are asking for what we'd like to see. Here are few things I would like: Campaign Classics. The Campaign Classics issue was one of my favorite things in Dragon. I would love to see this picked up, especially as an...

    Curses, Foiled Again!

I rarely use cursed items, except for large magical collections (like dragon hoards). The collector places one or two cursed items so that if they are ever defeated or robbed the thieves will have an unpleasent surprise as they go through their loot. Plus if the collector is killed then they...

Draconomicon, Races of the Dragon, and Dragon Magic - Which to Buy?

The only one I own is the Draconomicon so I can't talk about the others. But I've been very pleasently surprised by how useful the Draconomicon is. I had a BBEG Red Dragon helped me make a very challenging creature for the PCs. (dropped 3 of the 4 pcs and the last was barely standing) I have...

    Mixing Races....and why DM's shouldn't allow it

Basic race hybrids doesn't bother me too much. Especially with half-elves: in most campaigns elves are descrbed as being incredibly beautiful creatures and humans are, well, horndogs. There's going to be a lot of wooing going on. For the wierder stuff I tend to be very forgiving if there's...

How Much of a Railroader Are You?

I hate RRing PCs. I'll give plenty of plot hooks and maybe nudges (politely referred to as "DM plot hammers") but in the end the players are free to do what they want. Of course one time the PCs decided to go off in a totally different direction than I expected...causing a bit of panic on my...

Zombie Plagues in your Campaign Setting

You should take a look at Eden's All Flesh Must Be Eaten website (www.allflesh.com) and take a look at the messageboards. It's a treasure-trove for zombie survival horror...even if you're not actually using the All Flesh rules. They also have a specific sourcebook for fantasy settings...

Lamest Creature You've used to good effect in your campaign

I had a party that was going through a forest and an evil Grig had been hired to slow them down. I decided to play up the mischevious angle of the Fey as he gathered his monsters. The party soon ran into the vicious army of the Grig: 1 Flail Snail 2 Dire Skunks 2 Rust Monsters. It wasn't a...

DriveThruRPG.com to release 3.5 edition Dungeons & Dragons titles in eBook format

This would be a great idea for those books I was on the fence over (such as Heroes of Horror). A pdf version at a small discount really would have sold me. Alas the prices are still very high and they're DRM pdfs, so I won't be purchasing any of them. Oh well...

Which WotC base classes fill the 4 core roles well?

One thing that I've noticed is that DMs tend to have a different idea on the "Cleric" slot. Some say have it covered means "Someone must have Turn Undead". (ie you're invading the Tomb of the Eternally Evil Ghost Army or something...) Others use it to mean "You must have a Healer" (ie...

    Whose Enjoyment Matters Most?

Hmmm.. At first I put in "Everyone Equally" on this one, but now that I think about it I should have put "The Players". Not that the GM shouldn't have fun...he/she should. But I think the Players should be the beneficiaries. This is becuase the games are really for the players to triumph (or...

This weekend at the box office - 10.10.2005

Actually Serenity hasn't done all that badly. $10 mil on opening weekend isn't great, but it was enough for #2 on a weak weekend. (on a strong weekend that would have still netted #3 or #4) It's actually perfroming about the same as your average horror film (and considering how dark the film...
