    Campaign Settings poll XLII

One of the things I love about DnD is that it is so easy to homebrew. Yeah Greyhawk is supposed to be the default...but it's easy to sit down and say "here's the nations, and here are the races I want to use...". But I also play in a FR game and an AU game as well. Once I wrap up my current...

What are the best "fluff" PDFs or books?

Personally I liked Mongoose's Slayers Guide to Kraken ebook. Had some neat ideas in it and very little crunch.

    How do you pronounce "Drow"?

I'm definately in the Drow as 'go' mainly becuase the first thing I thought of when I saw it was 'row', 'crow' or 'grow'. In my gaming group that's how we all said it. Then I moved to the Northeast and heard the Drow as 'how'. It's like fingernails on a chalkboard for me. It just sounds...

Soooooooo Many Monsters... How do you use them all?

Lots of monsters It sounds like you want to use more monsters without goofing up your ecology too bad. There are a couple ways to do it: The idea about having Conjurers as the big bad guys was a good one. Have an area that is connected to other planes, if it's unstable or accidently used (a...

D&D 3.x Which race "got the shaft" in 3.5

I have to admit it is amazing to see how the Humans and Elves have reversed from 2.0 to 3.0/3.5. It used to be Humans were the lowest of the low as far as character races (in all of my groups humans were only taken if you wanted to be a druid...elves and half-elves non-surprisingly dominated)...

FLGS- Old Inventory and Organization UPDATE!!

shrinkwrap and browsing copies I'm in the "won't buy shrinkwrapped books" crowd. They're no fun to browse through and leave a feeling of mistrust of the customers. Luckily I live near a store that doesn't shrinkwrap. (well..except for the Book of Erotic Fantasy..but I can understand that...

    Hogshead D20 products

I have the Crime Scene: Supernatural but was underwhelmed. This is due to my expectations: I wanted X-Files and it is more CSI: Cults. The book itself is fine if a bit dry. A friend of mine has Crime Scene: The Mob and when I looked through that it looked quite useful. Their Fright Night...

d20 Future -- the sample settings revealed!

Bughunters! Bughunters is coming back?? Sweeeeeeeet... :D I used to have a blast running that when it first came out. Not a terribly deep game but it did what it set out to do (which is set up Marines vs. strange and horrible aliens fights each week). I wonder if it will get any additional...

    The Joys of discontinued products

Oh mannn...I've been looking at Dragonstar quite a bit lately. While if it got discontinued I definately would pick it up (I think the idea of "okay buy it now or I'll never see it again" is a big motivator), but I don't want the line to get canned. hehe..if I keep this going I might end up...

    The Joys of discontinued products

Hey all, I've found a wierd habit in my RPG book buying of late. When a product line gets discontinued, especially a well-received or long-lived line, the likelihood of my purchasing those books goes way up. I heard CoC d20 was going OOP... I bought it within 2 weeks. World of Darkness gets...

    d20 Transformers...

Classes I picked up Mechamorphosis yesterday at the store, and I'm pretty happy with it. It's full of old-school and current stuff. The only problem is that I like a lot of classes, and MM uses three very generic classes (Soldier, Scientist, Scout) and one exotic class (controller). I...

Which edition of D&D did you start with?

My group, when we were in elementary school and just learning about RPGs, tried to play 1E DnD but really had no concept of the rules. That lasted one session and we moved on to Palladium Fantasy. But when 2e was released we decided to go back and it became the mainstay of our group (along...

Which 3.5 class do you think is the weakest?

I chose the Bard in this one, but it's not becuase I dislike the class. I find it a lot of fun to play and I love the Bardic Lore ability. I think the Bard is a great class for highly social games (such as in the king's court). The reason why I gave the vote to the Bard is that in every game...

    Favorite non-human PHB race.

Hobgoblins rock! But for just the PHB I tend to go for Elves, mainly becuase I enjoy playing rangers/rogues and swashbuckling types. Elven nightvision and dex really helps out with those types. Admittedly playing a dwarven warrior with his axe or warhammer is a lot of fun too.

Have you played BRP Call of Cthulhu?

BRP Cthulhu is my favorite hard-core Horror rpg. It's a classic and Chaosium did a great job on the books (one of the editions had "weird things" timelines for both historical and fictional events...great appendix). The only problem I have with Cthulhu is that it requires a skillfull Game...

Which FR regional suppliment would you like to see most? (Take two)

That was a tough choice, Maztica is one of my favorite FR settings, but Old Empires in 2e was one I used the most. (mainly becuase I played a Murhondi Abjurist in a Spelljammer campaign..far more fun that it should have been  ) But in the end I voted for Maztica becuase I thoguht it...

    Mongoose Collector's Series

I'm definately buying it for 3 reasons: 1. I'm a big fan of the Quint books 2. Kobolds are cool 3. as a PDF it's cheaper and thus easier to rationalize my spending money on yet another gaming book :D On a side note Mongoose does a good job with their PDF-only books, I have the Slayer's Guide...

There's arachnids in them thar forests.

Actually Deadlands has giant mosquitoes, aka Texas Skeeters, in it and yes they are really nasty. (although they go down pretty fast when you have shotguns ready)

    Why aren't paladins liked?

I always thought that the movie Excalibur had two great examples of Paladins: Galahad and Lancelot. Galahad being pure and noble finds the grail. Lancelot is the great warrior..until he sleeps with the king's wife (chosing love over honor) at which point he becomes a Fallen Paladin. Great...
