    Why I hate puzzles

I faced a similar situation as a player. The DM created a little riddle that required that the players know the meaning of an old English word. We went back and forth on it for awhile and ended the session with us unable to find the solution. When we came back the next week no one had the...

    Sneak Attack

See, this is what I thought. My DM said no, reasoning that sneak attack damage was like the strength bonus, which only applies to the attack with the main hand. I guess this leads into the question: how do you correct a DM that you know is wrong according to the RAW without getting kicked out...

    Sneak Attack

When making two attacks (using two daggers) on a target denied its Dex bonus to AC, do both attacks get sneak attack damage or just the first one? The ability description does not specify that only one attack gets the bonus and it would make sense for both attacks to hit vital spots. But, when...

    OMG: The Core Cleric

The thing about Clerics and Druids being stronger than other classes is not that they require some special build to make them badass. They are badass because they are inherently versatile. Clerics especially since they are able to wear heavy armor and use metal shields. They buff the party...

    1st level stats

    Thanks, that fixed it.

one-handed, I guess. Should it be two?

    1st level stats

I'm not an expert on character creation so I used e-tools to create a 1st level spell-thief. The numbers aren't coming up as they should, though, so I want to verify that I have everything right. Spellthief 1 Gnome BAB +0 Str 12 (+1) Dex 18 (+4) Feat: Two weapon fighting E-tools say that base...

    Favored Enemy Undead, subtypes

I agree with the this idea if the PCs will be facing undead frequently. This does seem to be an awful lot of categories, though. I understand sticking to another's system, but you don't want to nerf the class ability too much. I would combine ghosts and spectral as incorporeal. I would...

    WotC DnD Quintessential 3.X Collection

Heroes of Horror is an awesome book. The Dread Necro and Archivist are worth the price of the book. I think that Complete Adventurer is the best in the Complete series and would definitely rank it a must have.

    What's your FLGS?

Dragon's Lair--Austin, TX www.dlair.net A big, clean store with everything a gamer could want. Open late everynight with different games going on in the back room. I'd be there every day if it weren't 20 miles from my house.

What Gaming Stuff Are You Getting/Giving For Christmas?

I'm getting some D&D minis stuff. Christmas is a great time to pick up a new game. I'll probably just get some cool dice for my gaming buddies.

    Procrastinator PrC

Why a good reflex save, they are good at dodging responsibility? I think that time on the couch would limit their reflexes. Good Fort. save would be better--eating day-old pizza increases resillience to poison and such. A true procrastinator is far too lazy to procure fresh food for him/herself.

    AD&D Style Multilassing

I think your idea sounds good and that the 25% penalty should work out well. The characters made like this will be overpowered for the first few levels, just like in 1e, but will level out over time. I also agree with your intention to limit wacko multiclassing. It makes since in many cases...

    Penalties besides PC death

I agree with KrazyHades, but I would go with a variation on the Taint rules found in Heroes of Horror. Near death experiences produce some strange physical and mental issues for the characters. The lists found in Heroes of Horror have a bunch of minor and major effects that have real RP and...

    Ranger: Ranged AND TWF

I've never really considered Ranger an underpowered class. In fact, the Rangers I've seen in action have been quite powerful, especially after they get spells and an animal companion. If you really feel that the Ranger is underpowered you could offer a first level only feat that would allow...

Three char level 8 group - How would you do it?

I think you need at least one character with melee capability. You're going to be giving up a lot of AoO if you don't have someone to keep the baddies away from your archers. The druid can wildshape to get some tanky goodness, or the scout/ranger can focus on TWF instead of ranged. This is...

Three char level 8 group - How would you do it?

Is this only for battle strength? If so, Druid/Cleric/Wizard or Sorc all the way. A well-locked door could stop them in their tracks.

    Zombies!!! Anyone played it?

Zombies!!! is a fun, but not great, game. I have always been disappointed with the limited mobility of the players. If you head to one side of the board and the helipad ends up on the other you are pretty much screwed. The way that the players create the game board is really unique, though...

    Back to basics

Then just tell them, "Look, your characters would be stronger if you did something a little more straight-forward. Wanna try it once?" Offer them a one-off campaign (maybe a short prepared adventure) to show them how fun it can be. That or send them links to Character Opimization threads that...

How would you interrogate an artifact battleaxe?

Magic fire obviously won't kill it, but, as we know, if it doesn't cause organ failure then it is not torture. Bonus answer: Waterboarding.
