Diseases - where can I find them?

But before anyone thinks they are going crazy for not thinking Diseases are in the Compendium... they only were added a month ago. Prior to that, that wasn't why the Compendium exists. ;) There are still a number of other notable absences, but they seem to be filling them in over time, and...

    Feats & Fighters

One of the feats that lets you multiclass into Wizard gives you their full Ritual Casting feature (including learning new rituals as you level up). A Hybrid Wizard does not get access to this feature (even via Hybrid Talent), and since they are already a wizard, cannot take the multiclassing...

Why CompoundWord Monsters Don't Bother Me

This doesn't bother me in the general case, just in the specific. I have no real objection to the use of compound name monsters. Often, it works quite well. But it does occasionally lead to some really silly names - but that's hardly isolated to this situation alone, given some of the absurd...

    D&D 4E 4E Dream/Nightmare Adventures

I vaguely recall seeing some 4E Dungeon Eberron articles along these lines... ...here we go: Taer La Shala, the Fortress of Fading Dreams. The place itself is real, but seems to have many dream elements that tie into it, and features an item (Philter of the Fading Dream) which results in the...

Feat Taxes, or, It's That Time of the Week Again

It's happened in every case I've seen. If you have characters who are already optimized - with 20's in their primary stats and +3 proficiency weapons and other options to boost their accuracy - odds are very, very high that they will take Expertise feats. If you have players who are more...

Feat Taxes, or, It's That Time of the Week Again

This pretty much covers it - the presence of such a feat doesn't narrow the gap, it widens it.

Some questions about the Executioner Assassin

I don't think he did. He's saying that reducing an enemy from 10 hp to 0 (or 20 hp to 0, or 30 hp to 0) is equivalent to gaining 2/4/6 extra dice of damage whenever that condition triggers, which could be several times a combat. Thing is... could be several times a combat, could be not at all...

Would It Break The Game If...: All Daily Attack Powers Were Reliable?

Pretty much all daily powers are already either Reliable, or have a result on a Miss, or have an Effect that goes off regardless. Now, you could replace the Effects and Miss properties with being Reliable... and make most powers worse. Truth is, Reliable is usually worse than just dealing half...

    D&D 4E What I want from 4E DnD in 3 simple steps.

Yeah, I totally read this as a Seeker specialized in using humans as thrown weapons.

Aspect of the Cunning Fox - Am I missing something?

During your turn means only while you are taking your normal actions on your initiative count. Thus, it is useful at diving through obstacles, triggering traps or when provoking opportunity attacks - but it doesn't help you the rest of the round. I wouldn't call it worthless, but it is...

The vampire starts with just 2 healing surges

On the other hand, I wonder if the Vampire's utility powers will provide assistance in dealing with such obstacles - I haven't seen the specific listing, but if they get stuff like turning into mist, bats, etc, that can go a long way toward providing support in certain challenges.

April and Beyond: Actually full of things most people will like!

I don't think that word means what you think it means. Last month's Dungeon was actually pretty good, though Dragon was exceptionally lacking - at least for players. For DMs, the overall content is quite good. They've just basically given up on providing new player content of any sort.

    Fortune Cards: you likey?

What's especially interesting is that the entire core concept of the cards were to provide a readily purchaseable item for players - since they don't usually invest in the various books and accessories (minis/dungeon tiles) that DMs do. And yet, despite that, the only real purpose folks can...

How is the Wizard vs Warrior Balance Problem Handled in Fantasy Literature?

I said, "Hey, I've never really tried out the alignment domains, that seems like an interesting option for a high level cleric!" I didn't say, "Hey, I bet this spell will completely destroy an encounter, and I want to be the 'winner' of this game." Again, though, this level of system...

How is the Wizard vs Warrior Balance Problem Handled in Fantasy Literature?

Well, I'll say that I've seen campaigns that don't quite fit that sort of structure, in which high level casters still can be problematic. What sort of campaign structures are you envisioning in which the wizard's capabilities at higher levels are not an issue, and why are they immune to the...

How is the Wizard vs Warrior Balance Problem Handled in Fantasy Literature?

Well, I've only been in the conversation here briefly, but I'm not sure I see the two arguments as being actually at odds. Wasn't the usual criticism specifically that balancing a class by making it inferior at level 1, but superior at level 15, being a poor form of design? (At least in the...

How is the Wizard vs Warrior Balance Problem Handled in Fantasy Literature?

So, just to be clear - in my previously shared anecdote, in which I played a cleric with the Good domain who thus took the spell holy word, that was being a jerk? And the DM was at fault for not specifically forbidding that spell from the game? Seriously, I think you are going way too far in...

    Fortune Cards: you likey?

Didn't see a poll option for my view: -I haven't used them, and would not use them as designed, but could see creative uses for them by DMs (as bonus treasure, etc).

How is the Wizard vs Warrior Balance Problem Handled in Fantasy Literature?

But, again, the player might not be taking these options for those reasons - they may not even realize how powerful they are. They want a wizard who confounds and dazzles his foes rather than blasting them with magic - one might even think (mechanics aside) that this would make for a less...

How is the Wizard vs Warrior Balance Problem Handled in Fantasy Literature?

Yeah, I think both of these situations are ones that a good DM can, of course, avoid. But I think that can be a problem in and of itself - if the game requires a certain level of system mastery on behalf of the DM in order to be enjoyable. Especially as you get higher level. At level 1...
