    D&D 4E 4E PrRC ~v2.7~ FINAL UPDATE May 29.08

or Kathra's to hit is +4 (+3 Str, +1 Prof.) and there's a +2 that was either a mistake or was changed after DDXP. Pro: None of the Cons of any of the three other options. Con: If we assume stuff on the character sheets is wrong, we lose all ability to infer anything from them accurately.

    D&D 4E 4E PrRC ~v2.7~ FINAL UPDATE May 29.08

According to the Racial Benefits excerpt, Dwarven Weapon Training grants only +2 to damage, no bonus to hit. That breaks Kathra as designed by the PrRC--she has a +1 to hit somewhere that's unaccounted for. Or fighters get no class-based bonus to hit and Dwarven Weapon Training at that time...

    Sniping Wizard and encounter powers

And even though monsters don't have a stat for healing surges, if you start combat with them and break off, they should be assumed to have and be able to use them.

    Gamer Zero Video: Magic Items/Alchemy

Sounds like the Maul (a really big hammer) and the Rapier or Main-Gauche (a good fencing weapon) may be in Adventurer's Vault. Also, no alchemical items in the PHB, which I applaud.

    Conclusions after three play tests

Fey Step is an ability that depends greatly on who's using it. On a squishy chararacter, it helps them stay out of trouble. On a tougher character, it helps them get into trouble, especially for melee-weak fighters and paladins. And on rogues, it's almost a 1/encounter "I flank. Now."...

D&D 4E DnD 4e Previews...What Would You Like To See?

I thought of another one I'd really like: a preview on ways to break the molds. Things like Weapon Finesse or Zen Archery that let you use a different stat mod, or a compelling reason why I might want my single-classed fighter to have Int or Cha scores above 8. The "double-barrelled" approach...

Do you think there will be double weapons?

Agreed. If only 3e had come out a year earlier, or Phantom Menace a year later, we wouldn't have these idiotic Darth Maul wannabes. TWF was around in 2e at least (I don't recall it in 1e, but I didn't own many 1e supplements), while double weapons are new as of 3e. Furthermore, double weapons...

D&D 4E DnD 4e Previews...What Would You Like To See?

I'm probably alone in this, but I really want info on creating opponents/NPCs with class levels. Other than that, I want more about paragon paths, such as whether they're all class-specific, how many will be limited to one build, and how prestige multiclassing works. Right now it looks like an...

    Solo Adventures?

I think that if you just follow the recommended XP values for a single character, you'll be fine. Encourage at least a bit of multiclassing so they can take a bit of punishment (high defenses, healing) and be effective in most situations (melee and ranged), and keep enemies down to 3 or 4...

    D&D 4E 4E PrRC ~v2.7~ FINAL UPDATE May 29.08

While it seems odd, they may actually expect you to retrain your skills if you take Skill Training later than level 1. I don't really like that approach, but it's possible. Alternatively, the wizard may get only two class skills, with Arcana as a bonus. Many other classes get one or two...

    Quick Rules Questions

One of my DDXP DMs mentioned this as well; a Heal check (I want to say DC 15, could have been 20) could be made as a standard action to grant an ally an additional saving throw. It would almost have to be a minor, perhaps a standard for a heavy crossbow. Move actions are reserved almost...

D&D 4E Weird & Wacky Stuff You Want in 4e

I'd settle for normal things, like frost giants and bronze dragons.... Some of my favorites as yet unmentioned are the Pennagolan (sp?), the shocker lizard (shocker lizard minions!), the mimic (it doesn't have to be a treasure chest, people), and the intellect devourer. And I'm in big love...

Warlock with Paladin Multiclass Feat grouped with Warrior

Wouldn't an easier and more complete combo be to be a paladin and take some form of invisibility through multiclassing? We've seen only Greater Invisibility so far (which boggles me, as I can't imagine what such a crappy spell could be greater than), but I'm sure warlocks and wizards will have...

    D&D 4E Yet another 4E demo experience

Not out-of-the-box, no, but the magic item sheets we got at DDXP allowed us to take a +1 Frost Warhammer (+1d6 cold damage on a crit), a +1 Staff of the War Mage (+1d8 damage on a crit) or a +1 Vicious Longbow (+1d12 damage on a crit).

    Excerpt: Multiclassing (merged)

I dunno... I think the approach you state will be common, but I think many will take two or three of those feats. Partially it's the opportunity cost (I spent the Initiate feat to qualify for the Power feat and I'm going to milk that prereq for all it's worth) and partially it's for options...

    GameSpy Reviews D&D Insider

That was announced at DDXP. Extra map tiles, features (like walls of fire), and any 3D monsters whatsoever will have to be purchased via microtransactions. Otherwise, you're stuck with image files.

Epic Destiny: Which one will make it?

At the same time, a much smaller number of Paragon Paths was also announced. So we might have several more epic destinies as well. I hope so--I liked all of those except the wild shape one, which clearly we won't be getting in PHB1. I don't recall the source--one of the blogs, I think--but one...

    Excerpt: Multiclassing (merged)

Even if another member of the party can do it better in general, that doesn't mean that you'll necessarily be redundant. There are cases--many cases--where having two party members capable of doing the same thing, even if one is worse at it, is extremely valuable. If a bunch of enemies are...

D&D 4E Love It or Leave It: 4E Multiclassing

Generally positive. I mourn the "loss" of the 50/50 multiclass, but that wasn't a reality in 3e anyway (I still miss it from 2e). No longer will you have a zone of multi-ineffectiveness (or, as Rich Burlew put it, sucking ass). On the other hand, you can simulate 50/50 pretty closely in one...

    Excerpt: Multiclassing (merged)

Technically, yes--but if you take a TWF-ranger encounter power, a TWF-ranger daily, and the Stormwarden PP, that's a lot of TWF-powers you can dish out. Edit: Could you even take Stormwarden? If you need the "two-blade fighting style" to qualify, you may really have to be a ranger--and that'll...
