    D&D 4E Ordering 4ed - shipping question

I consistently get stuff from Amazon a little earlier than they say I should. I'm cautiously optimistic. On the other hand, it baffles me completely that they say they won't even ship it until June 10.

    Multiclassing woes

Do the power-swap feats specify that you can take them multiple times?

Multiclassing, Skill Trainining, and Rangers thoughts and oddities.

I actually felt that Ranger multiclassing was weak, because it can't get you into a Ranger paragon path.

I also have the books [merged] (info on upcomming Power sources and more)

Are you sure? Arcane Initiate allows you to be considered a wizard for the purpose of qualifying for stuff, so if you're 21st level, and you're considered a wizard, doesn't that make you a 21st-level wizard?

Table of ability scores for each PHB race, MM race, and class

Nice table. Recommendation: Since fighters always use Str, and one or more of Con, Dex, or Wis, perhaps you should use =B2+MAX(C2,D2,F2). That would give a score of 2 only for a race that gets Str and one of the other stats, and not for one that gets, for example, Dex and Wis.

One of the other two pact at-wills.

PrRC has been updated one last time. A note of thanks from Verys

I, too, express my thanks again. It's been a big help. Just watch out for those gnome ninjas.

    Halflings?

I think it's all about the combinations--versatility for power. Old-school concept. Consider: Paragon multiclassing has a high cost: you lose out on paragon features, it takes 4 feats to get in, and the powers you get have a low level cap. But in exchange, instead of getting the 3 fixed...

I also have the books [merged] (info on upcomming Power sources and more)

I think that was the old way, but in the final rules you roll once per ability.

    Why the focus on criticals?

Now I want to play a fighter/rogue... or a ranger/rogue.... Except that only heavy blades and axes can be vorpal. And I didn't see you testing the 2d6 Greataxe on there, which I would bet is pretty darn good. Are there any 2d4 heavy blades or axes?

    Ki and Elemental - Whatever

Also, remember that "elemental' doesn't mean the 4 classical elements anymore. "Elemental" is thematically linked to the Elemental Chaos, which includes lightning, ice, and I don't know what else--potentially any of the paraelemental/quasielemental stuff from previous editions. That's a lot of...

Table of ability scores for each PHB race, MM race, and class

There's an error in the PDF for rogues (Cha, not Wis).

    Cleave

If your DM is putting level 1 kobolds and level 20 dragon minions in the same fight, you have bigger problems.

    Anti-Minion Tactics

Also consider the opportunity cost--by cursing a minion, you're foregoing TIERd6 bonus damage on the opponent you actually do attack. You're basically being a controller instead of a striker for a round. You can also curse only the (1-2) closest enemies, so if the minions aren't the closest...

    What's broken/overpowered? What's weak?

It gives you extra healing surges, not extra second winds. It helps you stay out in the dungeon longer, that's all--and if others have to rest before you do, it ends up not being helpful at all. Hardly. The fact that it doesn't stack with Weapon Focus makes it a good choice at Heroic tier, a...

The pendulum swings back: Humans suck once again

And that's only conditionally true, as well. If you're running a polearm fighter, then the dragonborn gets a nerf: since your Wis will probably be higher than your Cha, +2 Cha doesn't help your defenses. And the human may even have a better Fort than the dwarf if the dwarf's Con is no higher...

Really, No PC Gnomes! Stop Asking!

Another way to look at it is that 4d6 drop the lowest gives you a set of stats worth, on average, 20 points by the 4e method. 5d6 drop the lowest gives you stats worth about 30 points. It's a big difference. I plan to give players the option of using 4d6 drop the lowest, with a floating +1...

    An Example Character, Levels 1-30

Doesn't that kind of defeat the advantage of the Holy Avenger, that it can be used as an implement? I recall that in an early preview, paladins could use their shield as an implement. Guess that got canned.

    Have you seen this monster?

I'm pretty sure Rust Monsters and Disenchanters are gone for good, at least in any form that we'd recognize. They might give you penalties, but they won't destroy your gear. Blink dogs will need a significant reflavoring to make us want to kill them. They were Good, after all. Looks like...

So after reading the classes in full what do people think?

While I really like the idea in theory, in practice it creates a lot of work for the DM. It makes it so that a mandatory part of the world-building processs is going through every single one of the cleric powers and deciding which ones get little perks for worshipping a particular deity. And...
