    Dwarf = Pack mule

House rule: Diplomacy checks with an over-burdened dwarf have a DC modifier of +2 per 25 pounds.

Warlock's Shadow Walk Ability in Combat?

It depends on the pact. Fey pact? You are hidden by illusory camouflage. Infernal pact? You are shrouded in darkness. Star pact? Space bends around your eyewateringly non-euclidean geometry so you appear to be not there. Well, you are there, but not in the regular 3 dimensions.

    What's up w/ DDI?

To be fair, they based their Web security on 3.5 so it's only a single skill check. When they update their security to 4.0 you'll have to get 6 successes before 3 fails.

    What happens to petrified characters?

Medu Sa's Beuty Parlor, now featuring "eternal youth" treatments! Also, if you read the description of medusas there is an interesting tidbit about reversing petrification (it's exactly like something I suggested on the boards a year or so ago.... though to be honest I'm sure a zillion people...

Trolls: impossible to kill without fire or acid?

The way I read it, it's impossible to kill a troll if you don't have an ability that does fire or acid damage. In 3.5 you could do creative things like suffocating or strangling them after they are down (doing ability damage), but in 4e you can't. So barring "making a bonfire while the rest of...

    Campaign setting for 4e

When I run a campaign I plan on making it nautical/island based. I'll make each player come from a different island, and their homework is to write up a description of their home islands.

Wizard wanted to use mage hand to take a weapon

I picture two wizards trying to take each others' implements... and their mage hands getting into a slappity hissy fit midway between them.

why cant I sneak attack with a longbow?

Easy. Because then everybody would be sneak attacking with longbows. That's why you can't sneak attack with greatswords or ballistas either.

    What's up with Scimitar Dance

I think people generally have the idea of curvy swords being all wicked fast, while straight swords are more prosaic and meant for sword-and-board.

    Sleeping in armor?

I don't see anything wrong with people sleeping in armor. Unlike me, even a level 1 fighter is a battle-hardened trooper who can put up with all sorts of discomfort without adversity. Me? Sleeping outside would probably eat up all my healing surges. I think that if you must impose a penalty...

Deft Strike - questions (and other rogue/other questions)

You may have gotten the "opportunity attack with magic missile" misconception from the Penny Arcade D&D podcast. In the podcast, Jim Darkmagic (it goes without saying of the New Hampshire Darkmagics), asked for clarification about the "basic ranged" bit about magic missile, and the DM...

    Poiint buy arrays and

As much as looooove putting an 18 into a score, I do like the 14 14 14... arrays. With the racial mods, that gives you one or two 16s, and you probably qualify for any feat you're likely to take.

Portable hole: not for storage anymore

With all the slipping and sliding these days, there is lots of use for the portable door.... put on floor as trapdoor to floor below.... slide enemy into hole, pull up hole, ta da! enemy is now in the basement.

Portable hole: not for storage anymore

I just noticed that you can't pick up a portable hole if it's got a creature or object inside. So it's no longer a super duper bag of holding, just a super duper instant doorway. I'm only mildly disappointed; gone are the days of "we need to move this heavy stone sarcophagus? I just happen to...

Just realized something about item crafting.

Go ahead and let 'em! Where do you think cursed items come from? People making magic items without really knowing what they're doing! :D Look guys, I just made a sword of fireburst! It's only got a little glitch.... the fire comes out the handle....

Trollskin armor. "Trolls hate everyone, but especially you and your warty green armor." Pure genius.

    Hardest to Visualize Power

I like the idea of someone who is such a tactical genius that he/she knows how to set off a whole chain reaction of movement just by one "simple" action. Kind of like that blue guy in the Star Wars Expanded Universe.

I happen to know that WotC is planning an entire supplement on cats. Cat types include ceiling cat, invisible bicycle cat, and bukkit cat.

Why don't clerics get Shield proficiency?

They do if you want to cast with them. As a focus they are treated the same a material component, which must be in-hand to use.
