    Monk Subclass - Drunken Master

I love this, and i plan on using it in my chat game. Thanks a bunch.

    D&D 5E (2014) Starting level

I said 5th, but the answer is actually '5th or 7th' since all of my 5E play is via persistent online chat, particularly one I run, and the players are allowed multiple characters - one of which starts at 7th level, the rest of which must be 5th. This is because in the persistent chat medium...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Revenant Subrace, Monster Hunter, and Inquisitive

Why does everyone keep saying this? It's not true. You can very easily keep that revenant chasing his goal indefinitely if you are even a halfway decent DM. And nothing's stopping you from expanding that goal, such that the original reason for it becomes ever bigger. Think creatively, and this...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Revenant Subrace, Monster Hunter, and Inquisitive

That's what i'm using them for. My eberron chat players ate this up, and i have a half-dozen players with Blood of Vol, Karnnathi Bone Knight, and other concepts that needed this for oomph. And an inquisitive who is very happy to see the new rogue archtype.

D&D 5E (2014) D&D survey March 2016--Awakened Mystic, Kits of Old survey results, and "first, major mechanical expansion"

Yes, thank you. And despite my misplaced wording, i stand by my statement - lots of things are mechanically awful. Beastmaster, i'm looking at you - and take a lot of DM fiat to make worthwhile again, and not every DM has a good grasp of mechanics to do it in a way that's fun and not over or...

D&D 5E (2014) D&D survey March 2016--Awakened Mystic, Kits of Old survey results, and "first, major mechanical expansion"

For real. I really want more 5E stuff, and the more people go 'it's okay, move along and don't tamper with the rules', the less likely it becomes i'll ever see it. You don't have to buy rules you don't want, so please let the rest of us have our goodies. And for :):):):)'s sake, 5E really needs...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlocks & Patrons

Sounds like the OP is dead-set against this character as the player wants it and should just say no and make him do something else. When you have to make a player do something the way you want, or punish them for wanting to play a character, it's guaranteed to end badly. IMHO, it's a player/Dm...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlocks & Patrons

Actually, nowhere does it say that Warlocks lose their powers if their patron is destroyed. In fact,it is stated many times that a Warlock often opposes his patron. Once the deal is made, you have the power and can grow it as you like. They can't just take it away.

D&D 5E (2014) How "optional" are rules like feats and multiclassing?

Saying you're good at fighting, and showing it are two different things. if my character is on a quest to become the world's mightiest warrior, and roleplays as such, then it makes sense to take the option that mechanically makes him a better warrior, so that when someone calls his bluff he can...

    D&D 5E (2014) Boy, that escalated quickly...

5e has handy rules for group checks, but for some reason i've found that every DM i've played the game with flat refuses to allow them for stealth. As someone who professionally snuck up on people i intended to kill with a group of heavily armed and armored fellows, and did it successfully more...

D&D 5E (2014) How "optional" are rules like feats and multiclassing?

I have disagreed and will continue to very vocally disagree with the assertion that Blade and Chain pacts are inferior. They really, really work out great in actual play when you realize that a bladelock is simply NOT meant to be a primary melee specialist like a fighter or barbarian. He's a...

D&D 5E (2014) How "optional" are rules like feats and multiclassing?

Same here. I really don't get why these feats are problems - bounded accuracy ensures that numbers stay relatively low, and the fact that sources of advantage can negate the penalty is silly to cite because the resourcesused toget that advantage would be just as useful on anything else, and it...

    D&D 5E (2014) No Feats Allowed?

This, definitely. Without feats the fighty classes become far less atrtractive. As i stated before, Fighter is completely off the table, and Ranger might be too. I'd still consider a Paladin, but other than that it'd be all caster classes for me, and definitely no humans because standard human...

    D&D 5E (2014) No Feats Allowed?

haven't run or played a featless game, but as someone who typically plays fighters and likes complex concepts and complex builds, and prefers playing humans since every group is always full of nonhumans, a featless game would instantly turn me away, no questions and no negotiations. But so would...

D&D 5E (2014) The "more complex" fighter: What are you looking for?

I don't see what your point is. A 5% chance to add on average +50% damage to the attack (assuming you get an average damage roll) is not even really worth considering, and when the damage is as piddly as ray of frosts anyway, it's just a nice perk but nothing to write home about. The real...

    D&D 5E (2014) Need a safety net for 1st level characters -- it's complicated

This. It feels like you're working against your own goals; either do grim and gritty Fantasy-:):):):)in'-Vietnam, or don't. Or just pull a Dark Souls and make it so they resurrect at specific locations upon death (nearest temple to their god/the death god, the last place they slept, etc.) upon...

    D&D 5E (2014) Explainable multiclassing

I see no point in preventing a multiclass combo because 1. I consider classes to be meta, not a description of a characters entire background and identity. 2. Even if they are doing it just to get a cool mechanical combo, i'm fine with that if they're having fun with it, and any broken...

Unearthed Arcana Light, Dark, Underdark - November's Unearthed Arcana

The simple solution to power imbalances between casters and noncasters is not to make the noncasters bring along an army. The solution is to make the noncasters epic and powerful in the ways they should be - a high-level Fighter, Ranger or Rogue should be on par with the likes of Beowulf...

    D&D 5E (2014) Purple Dragon Knight = Warlord?

Anecdotal evidence is not at all worth mentioning. WotC has given those who are happy with chopped-up warlord pieces what they like, now how about the rest of us getting what we want? Why is that so hard? Why are they/certain players so opposed to new classes they'll just ignore anyway if they...
