D&D General Things That Bug You

Hey! I resemble that remark! Actually, I only use the term module for old modules, never for newer adventures.

    D&D 5E (2014) Goodman Games Taking Pre-Orders For ToEE

Different strokes for different folks. The GM was generally good. As good an any 15 year old, at least. My list for worst modules: Terrible Trouble at Tragidore Tomb of Horror Tome of Elemental Evil (3e) Tome of Elemental Evil (1e)

    D&D 5E (2014) Goodman Games Taking Pre-Orders For ToEE

I played it when it first came out. I thought it was terrible. Orc and Pie, without the pie.

    D&D 5E (2014) Goodman Games Taking Pre-Orders For ToEE

This may be the first OAR product I skip because TOEE was the 3rd worst adventure ever written (IMNSHO). If it's only $70 I may buy it because I'm an insane completionist.

D&D 5E (2014) In a (hypothetical) Tales from the Yawning Portal 2, what are the adventures you would want updated for 5E?

I wouldn't want any of the ones done by Goodman since they did a great job. I've bought them all, but may have to skip the next two since they are Elemental Evil, and I think that's the 3rd worst adventure ever written. (#1 being Tomb of Horrors and @2 being Terrible Trouble at Tragedor).

DDAL Adventurers League seeks your input, even if you do not play AL.

I listed every setting but Dragonlance (never understood the appeal). I also added Eberron in comments.

WotC Strixhaven sounds like it'd be a nice mini-setting for D&D

I don't run a game set in Ravnica, but I've pillaged so many things from Ravnica for my home brew games that it's always out when I'm doing design work.

    D&D 5E (2014) How advanced/civilized are your cities?

We don't do historical simulation chronicles, so the high magic areas tend to also have a level of advanced services. My own homebrew setting was Eberron-adjacent back in the 1980s.

    D&D 5E (2014) Unearthed Arcana: Gothic Lineages & New Race/Culture Distinction

I prefer no ASI at character creation. If we have to have it, I would prefer it be based on player's choice not on the character's race. A +2 bonus isn't really much of a difference in the grand scheme of things. I play a lot of BRP games and the difference between a dwarf (4d6 STR) and a...

D&D General why do we have halflings and gnomes?

I like gnomes better than halflings from a story point of view, but I detest silliness and gnomes have been treated as comic relief since Dragonlance. I prefer the more adventurous 3e halflings to the Tolkien version that we seem to have regressed to in 5e. That said, in the game worlds I...

D&D General Do genes exist in D&D?

It really is a GM preference. In my games, genes exist while gods may or may not. Magic can always overrule the rules of science, so you can get oddities and exceptions.

D&D General How old were you when you started playing D&D?

    I was 12 when I started playing in 1978. I'm 55 now.

D&D 5E (2014) The New D&D Book: Candlekeep Mysteries: 17 Mystery Adventures [UPDATED!]

I will buy it even though I rarely run any published adventure. Since these are smaller one shot adventures, there's a better chance I'll actually run them instead of just reading them for ideas. Been playing since the late 1970s and I really like what's been published so far for D&D 5e. I...

    D&D 5E (2014) Psionics in Tasha

My game has no weave. I don't care what the rulebooks say. WOTC can't tell me what exists in my own game. I use the mechanics of the game (except where I choose to change them), but there is no official crunch for me. Period. End of Statement. IMNSHO opinion, D&D Lore is inane and uninspiring. I...

    D&D 5E (2014) Psionics in Tasha

I was working on rewriting 3.5 XPH with 5e flavor and Psionic power slots. Now I don't have to. I'm still rewriting the powers as spells however.

    D&D 5E (2014) WotC's Jeremy Crawford Talks D&D Alignment Changes

Only the lycanthrope has forced alignment due to the curse, and only when forced to change. The character retains their own alignment. When the creature takes over, it has the alignment in the book (usually evil). That's why they often target the family and friends of their host. They're being...

D&D 5E (2014) Does your group use inspiration? If not, why not?

We don't use inspiration at all. We feel that it is a mechanism for rewarding players for playing "the right way(tm)" or for disrupting the game by trying to be "entertaining". We tried it. One by one, players announced to the table over a few sessions that they were opting out, and refused...

    D&D 5E (2014) Am I too strict?

I should also mention that many of the players in my home game group have been with us since 1980. Two others have been with us since 1992. The others have been with us since 2002. This group plays once a week. I have another group that consists of only family members, including my three kids...
