    D&D 5E (2014) Am I too strict?

I've read the whole thread. I was just replying to the question you asked in the OP. I don't like games where house rules penalize one class over another. I also don't like to play in games where there's too much accounting. We have lots of downtime between stories in most of our games, and...

    D&D 5E (2014) Am I too strict?

Do what you want at your table. But you asked if you were too strict. IMO this rule is terrible. I would never want to play at a table with a rule like this.

    D&D 5E (2014) WotC's Jeremy Crawford Talks D&D Alignment Changes

As a player I write phrases in the alignment space in the character sheet. Some examples include: Likes people to think he's naughty, but actually he's a good guy. Thinks he's better than everyone else, but helps the community out of a sense of obligation to share his superior talents. Doesn't...

    D&D 5E (2014) WotC's Jeremy Crawford Talks D&D Alignment Changes

I stopped using alignment in my AD&D game back in 1983, except for those who actually served the metaphysical beings of the outer planes. I appreciate that this is the first edition in which I don't have to write house rules to get around game mechanics that rely on alignment.

D&D 5E (2014) Oh no! They want to play a "bad" adventure

I haven't read Dragon Heist, since a friend of mine ran it. I probably will now that he's finished. As a player, this was the most fun I've ever had with a published adventure, and I've been playing for 43 years.

D&D 5E (2014) How should be the future Oriental Adventures.

This is my problem with many products. If I play a game in Chult, I want to play a Chultan. If I play a game in not-Japan, I want to play a not-Japanese character, etc.... I don't care for products where the PCs are tourists, visiting "exotic" lands and having adventures.

D&D General WotC’s Official Announcement About Diversity, Races, and D&D

If this is a language issue for you, I understand your confusion. If you are a native English speaker and have even a passing understanding of the history of colonialism and racism in the English speaking world, then you have to try really hard not see how the words used to describe humanoid...

D&D General WotC’s Official Announcement About Diversity, Races, and D&D

You could be right, but I think that's highly unlikely. I doubt most fans are invested in Drow and Orcs who are inherently evil and slaves to their alignment.

D&D General WotC’s Official Announcement About Diversity, Races, and D&D

I'm not dissing your GMing style in any way. I understand what you're doing. On the other hand, I code enemies as villains through their actions and attitudes.

    D&D 5E (2014) WotC's Jeremy Crawford on D&D Races Going Forward

Classism is a serious problem. I don't like to see it perpetuated anymore than I like to see racism or sexism. And that's not just because I was raised in southeastern Ohio, where poverty runs rampant and generations have been raised in economic privation that is almost unbelievable in a wealthy...

    D&D 5E (2014) WotC's Jeremy Crawford on D&D Races Going Forward

This sums up my groups completely. When I was young and didn't know better, I ran games where all orcs were evil. I stopped back in the 1980s. We fight evil aplenty, but evil people rather than evil peoples. When the players hunt down raiders, those raiders include orcs, hobgoblins, elves...

D&D 5E (2014) People didn't like the Psionic Talent Die

I loved the Expanded Psionics Handbook for 3.5. For me and my group, this was the best version of psionics ever published for D&D. However, the thing that kept bothering us was the spell point system. While it was similar to the older systems, it made the psionic classes feel both overpowered...

D&D General How much dice do you own?

This is the centerpiece of our dining room table. Every member of the family has 50-100 they use when playing.

D&D General Anyone ever run (or played in) a campaign with entire party (or almost) was a single class?

I didn't actually limit character choices. Players chose their concepts. We created the world together after watching season one of Sabrina. We have to fight over who has to play the cleric in our group. Celestial pact warlock makes them unnecessary from a mechanical point of view. No one...

D&D General Anyone ever run (or played in) a campaign with entire party (or almost) was a single class?

One of the regular games I run is a modern fantasy game based loosely on Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Dark Shadows with heavy Lovecraft themes. Characters include Celestial pact warlock (heavy Shadow Hunters inspiration) Fey pact warlock (new age-ish modern hippy) Infernal pact warlock...

D&D General The Brilliance of the Original Gygaxian Multiverse

I really like this. I have always preferred Moorecock to Tolkien.

D&D General The Brilliance of the Original Gygaxian Multiverse

I have to agree with the OP. I have always (since 1977) refused to accept anything published about the outer planes as canon. My games often have planar travel, pretty much exclusively from one "level" of the prime material plane to another. And it requires the plane shift spell, not teleport...

D&D 5E (2014) Remove feats and replace as magic items

I actually have no problems with magic items that grant feats, so long as they require attunement. I just don't see the need for replacing them with magic items. 3rd and 4th edition made the mistake of requiring characters to have magic items in order to be competitive. I give out lots of cool...

D&D General Day Jobs For Adventurers

I have always given out much less cash than the published adventures. All the characters in my games have jobs (adventuring is not a profession in my game). Sometimes, its just clerics being priests and mages doing minor magical services for people. Other characters practice their professions as...
