RPGs based off of Licensed Properties

While it very much depends on the game as others have said, I seem to have something of a reputation among my friends and co-gamers(eh?) for running IP campaigns. I have GMed more games of Star Trek, Star Wars, DC Comics, Ghostbusters and Galaxy Quest (homebrew) then I have all original games...

    Define some genres

SATASUPE ReMix One of the coolest and most unusual Japanese Table Top RPGs is a little number called SATASUPE ReMix. Its a gun-fu, wire-fu, asian crime, hip-hop bloody action comedy. Oh yeah! Described as both funny and bleak simultaneously. AD

    How do you distribute treasure?

Exactly. Magic items in IMD&DU are very similar. The Blue Dragon's Tongue, The Sword Unseen, Cloak of the Lurker, Persona of the Fiery Angel...these and many more items are unique and the players are not going to know exactly what they do or how powerful they are until they try to use them or...

What has been your longest running campaign?

Another really long campaign for me was one of my Star Trek games using the original FASA system. We played Star Trek alot (A LOT!) between 1983 and 1985. In truth I've run Star Trek more often then any other setting or system from 1983 on. Often, we used it for pick up games that only lasted...

    How do you distribute treasure?

Does anyone remember the old Dragon Quest cartoon (an imported anime by the creator of Dragonball). When the monsters were killed they would explode in a puff of smoke and gold, jewels and items would fall to the ground. Yeah, that's the way to do it. AD

    How do you distribute treasure?

A bit longish - I apologize Very interesting. I'm serious. I never thought of this particular element of D&D gaming to be something that required anything other then rewarding the players for their hard work. You, the GM, challenge them with a tough but fair riddle, trap, monster, group of...

    How do you distribute treasure?

Huh? I'm been playing for 30+ years and after reading the posts in this thread I feel my age for the first time. I have almost no idea what most of this means. Adventure ATM? Dumping magic items and integrating a cost-based system that allows players to purchase improved equipment by...

What has been your longest running campaign?

In terms of hours? I don't think I've ever heard of or thought of it that way. Also, how often did you run 3 hour sessions? That doesn't seem like enough time to get anything done regularly. I guess my longest would be my original AD&D 1e campaign which would come to almost 1800 hours. We...

    Let's read the entire run

Starting in July of 1985 and the reading of that article, I became completely obsessed with this 'game-that-never-was'. It sounded so much like everything I wanted to play and mess with. By the late eighties I was already a huge anime and manga fan (well before it was cool :hmm:) and was always...

Who's the biggest loser/coward from last night's game?

Hmm...I'm not the biggest D&D fan or even someone who plays it that often so I could be wrong but is Will the thing Wizards use when they study magic? I thought wizards want a high Intelligence. Intelligence is used for numbers of spells, arcane knowledge, spellcraft, etc. not Wisdom/Will...

Floating Powers (Was: WoTC March 2009 Editorial Calendar)

This is actually an intriguing idea. Best one I've heard in a while for making more 4E more fun and less "I do the same thing is round I do every round". Not a fan of 4E primarily because of its 'roles' concept, at least powers of this nature would make playing a dedicated role more...

Are you a Player or GM?

I voted for 90% of the time. I not only agree with your preception but it would seem that the poll seems to illustrate this as well. I remember that when I was younger you could always tell who the GMs were because they owned more then just the Player's Handbook and the issues of Dragon...

D&D General What (in)famous D&D adventure sites exist in your homebrew?

In my original homebrew D&D world, which I've used in one form or another since 1982, numerous modules have been merged into the milieu, though none have done so unaltered. Keep on the Borderlands is an old fort left over from an ancient conflict that was later 'settled' by the soldiers and...

Agreed. Aside from that, I'd use that image for a PC. AD

Which of these old school modules are worth getting?

Of those listed, I've gotta give it up for The Ghost Tower of Inverness and Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan . Both are solid and very dangerous adventures. In addition, both were expanded at one point or another in various campaigns I was in into major story arcs of our game. Good time. Good times. AD

Ah but you don't have both. I see no examples of short, well fed species among the lean perfect short people. The halfling, the gnome, all lacking any imperfection or sense of whimsy. What I am advocating is that we see different versions or images of the gnome. I would perhaps be happier with...

The Dogs of War: Dogs in the Campaign!

I am going to jump in and give two paws up for this thread and for SHARK. I have owned dogs my whole life and have worked with dogs professionally for over 2 years. They are far more then pets, akin to friends who connect the human spirit back to the animal kingdom from whence we came and vice...

Photos of the new Gnome (PHB2)

I see where you're coming from. I totally agree. Again if the descriptions were more generallized or the art direction tighter we would see a big difference in the resulting designs. On a related side note, does anyone else wish there were two or three depictions of each race, monster, etc. by...

Photos of the new Gnome (PHB2)

I think the fault isn't with the art there, its with the description. They need to describe the races in ways that depict what they are more specifically and what they look like more vaguely. Elves, Gnomes, Halflings, etc. should be able to have any skin tone humans have and then some. The...
