D&D Movie/TV D&D Cinematic Universe. What would it be like? What do you want to see?

I think Eberron would lend itself best to visual media, especially a big-budget movie.

D&D 5E (2014) Let’s Read Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse.

Suggestion: after the 10th post on a topic tangential to the OP you should probably start a new thread. No one clicked on "Let's Read MPMotM" for yet another endless digression into CR.

D&D 5E (2014) Which common monsters/creature types do you exclude from your campaigns?

Agreed. Was just (virtually) flipping through MMotM and was thinking how much wasted (in my opinion) energy and creative space went into more and more pointless devils and demons.

    D&D 5E (2014) Melee sorcerer

I used the stone sorcerer UA to generate the "spell support" of the city guard of a high magic city last campaign. They were great, really made me want to play one!

D&D General Let's Look At Loke Battlemats

I have an important (but hopefully silly) question but I can't post on the KS page until/unless I back the project: Does anyone know if this will include gridless maps? Kind of a necessity in my book... Edit: never mind, I found the answer (which was "yes" btw) by digging through other's...

D&D General What did you think of the Stranger Things D&D game?

And having an army of writers, and multiple takes, and filming the same scene several times from different angles, and and and... I'm just glad that my players don't expect that level of drama and polish when I'm sitting in a friend's living room bloated on pizza, Swedish fish, and Diet Coke...

D&D 5E (2014) +What Tricks and Shortcuts Do You Use To Make Monsters and other Hazards More Challenging?

I have a doc of all (most?) creature special abilities/attacks/traits like pounce, cunning action, parry, shadow jump, etc. I had one or more to creatures that lack interesting ones or to leader-types to differentiate them from mooks. Sometimes mooks get "reckless"

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't make the game too weird

To expand on this, maybe ask them what their favorite science fiction and/or science fantasy movies/TV shows are. Do they want more Alien v Pred? Star Wars? Star Trek? Final Fantasy? It is tough to answer the question "What DON'T you want?" unless we are talking about food allergies. Ask them...

D&D 5E (2014) Let’s Read Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse.

Well, I'm a psychologist, so I enjoy erratic, irrational, self-absorbed, selfish, drama-obsessed, emotionally labile creatures that I am NOT expected to help.

You honestly had me at Fey Ninja. Gimme gimme gimme!

D&D 5E (2014) Is Tasha's More or Less The Universal Standard?

We use it pretty extensively. As a DM I allow all the spells, feats, and optional class abilities but I do draw the line at the Twilight Cleric. I can live with an overpowered subclass or a poorly designed no-coherent-theme subclass, but I'm not going to tolerate one that his both.

    D&D 5E (2014) Explain: Mordenkainen's Monsters of the Multiverse

I blame WotC's fixation on avoiding "game terms" in favor of "plain language." Magic is used both as a descriptive word and a game term with specific mechanics and properties which can lead to confusion. On a related thread a few months ago, I introduced a short lived tangent/aside where I...

    D&D 5E (2014) Explain: Mordenkainen's Monsters of the Multiverse

Yeah but it isn't. I don't know how often you read Sage Advice, but one thing Jeremy Crawford is famous/notorious for is not actually answering questions directly but pointing out that the rules have already answered the question. It's like the old "teach a man to fish..." proverb: JC seems...

    D&D 5E (2024) The Variant-variant Human:

I think this would have been a great idea BEFORE they started transitioning so may abilities to "PB times per long rest." Now it feels too good. Although feats are pretty darn good. Hmmmm....

D&D General worst (real) advice for DMs

I actually had a player say to me once when I was DMing "You aren't supposed to be having fun, your job is to make sure the PLAYERS are having fun." Really? Because I'm part of this gaming group also and I'm putting a LOT more time into making it happen than you are. Maybe, just maybe, if they...

D&D 5E (2014) Homebrew: Removing Concentration From The Less Popular Spells

I think the stacking concern for defensive spells that keeps coming up would be more elegantly handled by changing durations too "one minute/hour/whatever or until you cast this spell again whichever comes first." Some durations might also have to be decreased. Done. No concentration issues...

D&D 5E (2014) Simplifying Wildshape using Summon Spells/Ranger's Beasts as templates

I developed a mix and match wildshape option for our last druid similar to some of the newer summoning options. I left all of the aesthetics and ribbons up to him and had a grid of what special abilities were available for land, air, and sea base templates and minimum druid level to access those...

D&D 5E (2014) Don't play "stupid" characters. It is ableist.

The entire premise of this thread is a nearly perfect example of a solution in search of a problem.

D&D General What does "magic" mean? [Read carefully, you can't change your vote]

Sigh. A little topic-adjacent, but does anyone else miss the spell-like/supernatural/extraordinary ability distinctions? Because sometimes I do. One person's clunky is another person's elegant!
