    Your thoughts on warlocks

Of course he didn't. He was built to be a PC, so he took normal feats... and he didn't know that morning that he'd be facing a CE warlock, so he memorized what he thought would be appropriate. But not sure I necessarily agree. Going first doesn't ALWAYS get you the win, but I'll agree, it can...

    Your thoughts on warlocks

Actually, the party he defeated included a paladin as it's leader. Of course, as said earlier he got to go first (he won a surprise round but not an initiative). And he who goes first goes best. Also he got to choose his time/place. Ambushes give a significant advantage. But it was the first...

    Sorcerers with Spell-like abilities?

It's not to hard to rule that they still get spell failure in heavier armors ... in fact, it's not at all difficult to give sorcerous spell-like abilities special somatic components. They did that with warlocks. Note that if you make ALL of them had somatic components you seriously nerf the "get...

What kind of cracked out spell is this?

That's a very good idea. And it's why I think the "arcane mastery" feat is awesome. Always taking a ten on caster level checks (like SR?) Very nice. Keep assay resistance scrolls on hand just for those specific higher level cases, and go.

When your game starts turning into Velveeta

I agree, you should avoid Epic at all costs. Essentially once they hit level 20 the game is over, you can have a last campaign or two, but not let them get any higher level... and you have to end that soon. Start over, level one... base rules/characters. I don't approve of the typical point buy...

    Your thoughts on warlocks

Don't forget that he can apply an invocation to 'chain' the blast to hit up to three targets, or he can make it into a cone effect... there are other shapes too.

    Your thoughts on warlocks

Not any more often than a mage, which is where I compare the two. However warlocks have absolutely nothing to get them out of a grapple. All their invocations specifically require somatic components. Including the DDoor one. They've got a weak spots. They have an invocation to turn their blasts...

    Your thoughts on warlocks

It wasn't that bad. Human race. Twelfth level character. Started with an 18 (+4), level boosted it to 20 (+5), spent a lot to get a +6 to charisma item (+3 more), took a feat to increase spell like ability DC by 2... It was only +10. I think the spell (invocation) was a sixth level one... (this...

Can Arcane Casters Heal? Disrupt Undead?

Yup. Clearly a mistake. Or something. I think that there are other examples. I think this because this conjuration getting new spells which should be in evokation was a minor rant at a game group I'm in, where other examples were pointed to. Clearly healing being in conjuration is also a...

    Your thoughts on warlocks

Actually, that's only one of the ones I was referring to. The other was the bewitching blast. I didn't actually see the Utterdark blast played more than a few times... the character was 'retired' (I wasn't the GM) because the GM thought it was just too much.Bewitching blast is still a mid level...

    Precocious Apprentice question

I believe that the writers said "No, you can't" and then came up with a half baked explanation as to why not. Which I believe was along the lines of the fact that you might fail to be able to cast the spell, so you can't actually cast it... or something silly like that. Yes, it would be...

Can Arcane Casters Heal? Disrupt Undead?

D@mn the orbs! Banish them all to hells Well, really, all I see that as is an example of another mistake. I don't really care who published spells obviously disregarding rules, only that they're being disregarded.

    Sorcerers with Spell-like abilities?

That's right, uncounterable. Well, unless you've house-rules counterspelling to be an actual cost-effective option, you'll never have to worry about that. And if you do, a simple addition to that houserule makes sorcerous spell like abilities counterspellable... Material Components, only a...

    Decisions while unconscious

When a will save is available. But when there is no will save, and instead it says 'willing only', they do not. OK, this is an old thread, but I'm glad I had it marked and came back to it. I had previously thought that it really was the unconcious are always willing, and thus don't get a will...

Can Arcane Casters Heal? Disrupt Undead?

OK, the "D&D" definition. Necromancy is the manipulation of life force. The IRL definition does seem to be stricktly about using a corpse to divine the future, and nothing else.

    Falling with Wings

Sometimes it's amuzing. What else are you going to base this off of? Other than RAW... and using RAW specifically it states... no, wait, nothing. So there you have it, nothing happens! I imagine so... I've actually debated this before. Not on here, mind you. ... See (and I'm sure you know...

1000 Signs you're in GM HELL

Oh yea, that's a good one. I've solved this by having the ultimate quest end in ".... or the world will be destroyed." Unfortunatly the latest variant I have of that was "or every living thing in the world will be turned into undead", and at least one of the players is thinking "cool, how can I...

    Darkness not total?

Not actually true... 3.5 darkness creates light. It just lowers (or raises) the illumination to "shadowy". So even if your darkness spell just turned off ALL the other lights, it's still there providing all the shadowy illumination needed. Post a link already. What if we don't find it? ^_^...

    Falling with Wings

Yea, but noone here has failed to maintain their minimum speed. Run it through a checklist: 1) Did they make the full speed needed to not fall last round? Check (speed needed, 0, on the ground) 2) Are they making full speed needed next round (Wait till next round to check). They haven't...

Can a monk with natural weapons use them in a flurry?

Yup, can't do it. I've seen some people debate as to whether natural weapons may be tacked on the end AFTER a flurry however (as secondary weapons). I remember both positions being argued, I don't remember if anyone had any rules backing, but the answer seems like it will be the same as if you...
