"Your Class is Not Your Character": Is this a real problem?

Sure, but that's a GM opinion in total disregard to if the player actually picked it for that reason, if the player actually successfully made a powerful build, or if they just made something they thought was cool and fit the sorry in their head that kind of works and that they did not optimize...

D&D 5E (2014) What armor can druids wear? Is there a way to get a decent AC?

There is no assumption of casters capability requirement of using attack spells with to hit or DC since the request is for AC. If for example, a tanky caster who buffs allies, you may not need higher than a 13 Wisdom since you don't have to roll to hit allies nor do they need to fail a save to...

"Your Class is Not Your Character": Is this a real problem?

I think I said everything significant I have to say in earlier posts but I am long winded. So I am going to say it again as concise as I can. 1. "Your Class is Not Your Character" is not a rule in any book. its not wrong and its not right. Its just an opinion on style of play. 2. "Your Class...

"Your Class is Not Your Character": Is this a real problem?

I actually don't think that most people hear disagree in general. This thread is mostly about conflict resolution of preconceived and differing opinions. My reply is less a disagreement of your position and more a description of how to look at the same conflict. Instead of "I don't like...

"Your Class is Not Your Character": Is this a real problem?

Style of play did not die. Exmple: Druid 1: "I love nature, you should never hurt anything even plants unless it has free will and tires to hurt you first... WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOUR GOING TO CUT DOWN SOME FIRE WOOD!! I must protect the trees!" <I cast Ice Knife at level 9 at my fellow party...

uh... Oath of Ancients Paladin + Archfey warlock you have a cooperate boss and a branch manager Oath Breaker Paladin + any warlock - your just changing directions. Oath of Conquest Paladin + any warlock patron who supports your conquest Oath of Devotion Paladin + Hexblade or Undying Warlock -...

"Your Class is Not Your Character": Is this a real problem?

I find this is a problem when ether the GM or the player feels that way but the other does not. So for example, some GMs hate players who play more neutral paladins because they define them by their class while some players will play "Lawful Stupid" paladins because they don't think they can...

D&D 5E (2014) What armor can druids wear? Is there a way to get a decent AC?

Druid's are proficient with medium armor and shields so... Dragon Scale Mail (very Rare) AC14 +1 Magic bonus, +3 Dex Bonus with Medium Amor Master Feat = AC18 -or- +3 Hide Armor (Legendary) AC12 +3 Magic Bonuss, +3 Dex Bonus with Medium Amor Master Feat = AC18 +3 shield (wooden) = +5AC (Vary...

D&D 5E (2014) Theory Crafting fun: Max HP with standard array (no magic items or GM hand outs like Epic boons)

A valid point. Losing isn't always about not dying. Even if you end up with a PC that has 1000+HP and AC39, it doesn't mean anything if they don't do enough damage to kill the enemies, are not cleaver enough to solved the mystery, or don't work well enough as a team to manage the mutilple tasks...

D&D 5E (2014) Theory Crafting fun: Max AC with Standard Array, without Feats, and without GM provided magic items?

I am not apposed to looking at it for fun but to do anything with that I would need a list of magic items by adventures and I don't have one. IF you do, or can come up with one. I am game.

D&D 5E (2014) Theory Crafting fun: Max HP with standard array (no magic items or GM hand outs like Epic boons)

I am not suggesting these builds, but if I were GM... he might have to solo a terrasque. lol

Ya, I want to say this is the single most broken flaw in 5e, then again the new artificer can get a Artificer Battlesmith can get a static AC33 on class features alone compared to Tiamat's AC25... so ya.

D&D 5E (2014) Theory Crafting fun: Max HP with standard array (no magic items or GM hand outs like Epic boons)

Kalishar Barbarian (Totem Warrior) is very interesting. I did not know there was a race with resistance with psychic. Part of the fun of theory Crafting. I forgot entirely about the use of Wildshape to use an alternate source of HP. I am not fond of the Dinos in D&D in general but that in no...

D&D 5E (2014) Theory Crafting fun: Max AC with Standard Array, without Feats, and without GM provided magic items?

A lot of new tools I was not aware of here. Awesome. I want to play with this... HighElf +2 dex +1 int allows of Bladesinging, ok. I don't think you can get three 20 stats with Standard array and 4 ASI increases. I will drop Forge Cleric. Blessing of the forge requires armor. Str and Con...

D&D 5E (2014) Theory Crafting fun: Max AC with Standard Array, without Feats, and without GM provided magic items?

Chaining it is a fair point as well as the resistance. That means AC29 is a typo then as the total of your post is AC28. I added this technic to my original post with credit to you.

D&D 5E (2014) Theory Crafting fun: Max HP with standard array (no magic items or GM hand outs like Epic boons)

Thanks for the Tough Feat catch. Fixed it. As far as Epic boons, that's unlimited and honestly I have never seen a GM give one before. I would prefer calculations without homebrew or GM hand outs, limiting it to player choices.

D&D 5E (2014) Theory Crafting fun: Max HP with standard array (no magic items or GM hand outs like Epic boons)

I tried to leave room for all of them so I am vague on purpose but listed categories like "Actual Total HP" and "Effective* total HP (excluding psychic enemies)" separately so readers have the option to pick one or the other as they prefer. This promotes broader discussion without while allowing...

D&D 5E (2014) Theory Crafting fun: Max AC with Standard Array, without Feats, and without GM provided magic items?

Dwarven Fortitude is a very powerful ability that makes Dwarf a solid option for anyone who wants to prevent from dying. Hill Dwarf's more so because they can combine that with Dwarven Toughness for an extra +1 HP per level that stacks with the tough feat +2HP per level..
