D&D 5E (2014) Fixing Channel Divinity: Twilight Sanctuary

That's fair, but surely at this table no change is needed at all?

    D&D 5E (2024) replacing Constitution with Energy

I need to know, where does Nuclear fit into all of this?! I must know!

D&D 5E (2014) Can your Druids wear metal armor?

I'd certainly say that what it wants to be is "all of them at once".

    D&D 5E (2024) Should There Be a Core Setting?

You can find that sort of thing in most any game that has many different types of magic or classes in it, either explicitly or obliquely (i.e in Dark Souls). Sometimes you find a more clear split between the "Cleric/Priest" and the "Paladin" (or "Acolyte" and "Templar" if they're trying too hard...

D&D 5E (2014) Can your Druids wear metal armor?

I'd personally prefer the unarmored defense route, if we're doing larger "fixes".

D&D 5E (2014) Can your Druids wear metal armor?

The 5e druid is the old DnD druid filtered through the World of Warcraft/Diablo druid and all the other ones that were "inspired" by the original Druid between now and like, 1980 or whenever, that very few people played compared to the ones it inspired. To get back to anything "real world", i...

D&D 5E (2014) Can your Druids wear metal armor?

I can't speak for Crimson Longinus, but i personally don't actually view it through the lense of specific world-building. Rather, i view it at the meta level. Conceptually, to me, the "Druid" represents a fantasy archetype which, among other things, isn't represented in theme by using metal...

D&D 5E (2014) Fixing Channel Divinity: Twilight Sanctuary

The way the mechanics work, the cleric can always heal and attack, or always attack and heal. This choice is just about which way the scale is tilted. It is never all or nothing. in either direction.
  9. Northern Phoenix

    D&D 5E (2014) Bleeping Forcecage

I personally do not find this spell fun in either direction and do not allow or use it.

D&D General What are your favorite D&D-related podcasts and actual plays -- and why?

Critical Hit by Major Spoilers is probably the best 4E DND actual play for anyone who needs some of that in their life. I too fell off around that point, but before then listening to it was dozens of hours of great enjoyment.

D&D 5E (2014) Fixing Channel Divinity: Twilight Sanctuary

The fact that you gain the enormous amount of temporary hit points every round is so powerful that it is absolutely worth using every round, and not just pre-combat. The choice is whether you use what is essentially a top-tier Twilight Cleric exclusive defensive concentration spell, or a...

D&D 5E (2014) Warlock Spell Selection: Does the PC or the *player* choose their spells?

That's not what this thread is about. The premise of the thread starts with the fact that mechanically, in the real world, the player chooses the spells. The discussion is whether, within the fiction, the player character or the patron character chooses the spells

    D&D 5E (2024) Should There Be a Core Setting?

Think you're using a different definition of generic here. Generally, if people come into DnD from fantasy video games or other modern fantasy stories, they can probably expect to find the sort of things they've seen there in DnD. DnD has all the fantasy stuff, so colloquially, it is "generic...

D&D 5E (2014) Can your Druids wear metal armor?

At which point we reach the realization that "limiting player agency" isn't always a bad thing. Banning PVP is limiting player agency too, technically, but i imagine most groups are OK with that.

D&D 5E (2014) Fixing Channel Divinity: Twilight Sanctuary

Yes, this is the point of the nerf. By adding concentration to an effect as powerful as Twilight Sanctuary, the Cleric can still cast spells like spiritual weapon, guiding bolt, healing spells, and more, but they cannot layer it with spirit guardian, Circle of Power, or summon celestial or other...
  16. Northern Phoenix

D&D 5E (2014) Can your Druids wear metal armor?

In theory sure, but realistically there will be certain things you cannot do, depending on the GM. Torture, to use a common example, or PVP.

D&D 5E (2014) Warlock Spell Selection: Does the PC or the *player* choose their spells?

I'd personally say "Player". No, i don't feel the need to DM-meddle in that, but in-universe, i view these things as gifts from their patron.

D&D 5E (2014) Can your Druids wear metal armor?

Like i said before, there are very few DMs who allow literally any type of character. Some DMs don't allow evil characters, some DMs don't allow horny characters, some DMs don't allow lone-wolf solo characters. I personally, rather than need to micromanage a players every decisions minute to...

D&D 5E (2014) Can your Druids wear metal armor?

I don't think it's pointless, it's a small thing, but one that impacts my fun. Before i ever tried to "enforce" it by claiming supreme game power, I'd instead try an approach such as "you can play 1000 different types of character, can i please ask you don't choose to play one of the very few...

D&D 5E (2014) Fixing Channel Divinity: Twilight Sanctuary

Slapping Concentration on it goes a long way to balancing the Twilight Cleric in combat while still leaving it a very powerful tool. With this tiny change, the Cleric has to choose between powerful defense or powerful offense, without being able to have their cake and eat it too, which is, in my...
