    Ugly Half-Orc Backstory

Thats a very ugly backstory indeed.

    Winterhaven Capsule Hotels

Maybe the bigger ones, but probably not the thatched homes. Multistory building doesn't strike me as a common thing for this type of settlement I assume, given the normal behavior of kobolds in D&D, that they're eating people's babies. I like your highlighted region... its about what I'd...

    Winterhaven Capsule Hotels

The map is up on the may preview. And... tiny. The 'homes' are about 10' x 10' And here is the description small thatched homes (presumably identical to the 10 x 10 boxes in town, and small pastures and farmland. Yeah. Cut that population to about 350 and we'll talk. The evil keep is...

    Against the Giants Preview 1

Its a nice looking earth brute. Tying titans into it is a bit funky, though.

    Best class/role for solo play

Wizard definitely at the bottom. A bit of area damage just isn't enough to take anyone down before they spit you. Leaders have an obvious advantage with per encounter healing (which only takes a minor action, rather than a standard action to boot). That dwarven ability on the pre-gen fighter...

    Winterhaven Capsule Hotels

It seems a lot to live in 'nearby' homes outside the town itself, particularly in a point of light setting. Its also a lot for a village or even town, given the agricultural level. Feeding almost a thousand folk requires a lot of land. A reasonable population would require cutting this...

so who else wil also be going for the deluxe edition ?

... I'd still rather have a real gift over an over-priced version of a book I already have or (and the odds becoming increasingly against this, admittedly) don't actually want. I really think deluxe editions are more social commentary than anything else. That a book thats exactly the same, but...

    17 days of Shadowfell?

Nice. Now I'm going to be thinking of 1 square spears and my 10 square rope.

    Keep on the Shadowfell preview

NDAing every retailer in the country (and any distributors along the chain, no less) for for what is essentially advertising material seems fairly ludicrous. Yaargh, ninjered!

    D&D 4E 3d6 and 4E Character Generation

The problem is the balance point for the game won't necessarily match up well with the bell curve for 3d6. if the game has largely been balanced and tested for 28 or 30 point buy, if you're party ends up on the statistical average, you'll likely eat them alive if you don't tone everything down...

so who else wil also be going for the deluxe edition ?

Deluxe editions are wasteful garbage, in my opinion. If I have extra money to spend I'll buy something useful. If they have actual additional content, I'll just be pissed they didn't put them in the original books.

    Paladins mark "fix" a plazebo?

I have yet to encounter an RPG that people don't rules-lawyer to the point of death. Its just that D&D has more players, so the same percentage of rules-lawyers naturally produces more of them.

    Paladins mark "fix" a plazebo?

Its clumsy wording, but I don't expect to see a lot of examples of the 'problem' in play. The paladin is going to give up almost of all his abilities to exploit the mark in this way, and be very ineffective overall. Or have to blow a lot of feats to be even marginally effective. While...

    Excerpt: Weapons (MERGE)

In the interest of providing data for your random sampling... every single one of those things is incredibly stupid. The chain is almost passable, except for the bit where you're impaling you own hands to use it. Why not an actual length of chain? Why add the injure-yourself spikes? As an...

    D&D 4E Point buy, 4e & you.

A +4 (or 5 with racial modifiers) in your primary stat is almost always more powerful than +2 in multiple stats. With the emphasis on stats for attack and damage values in 4e, this will remain true. Take the sample wizard character from D&DXP- he wouldn't be nearly as useful with a 16 int and...

    Excerpt: Weapons (MERGE)

The implication was that 'small' reach weapons were actually about 2.5 feet longer than medium reach weapons :D

    Excerpt: Weapons (MERGE)

That is pretty horrible. In a way, I'm impressed that something actually beats out the tiefling weapons in the realm of Things That are Completely Unusable.

    Daily Art Preview

Yup. It actually looks like something that Aristocrat Andrew, Amateur Artist would have hanging on the wall of his manor in the actual game. Not something thats supposed to invoke, 'This is a manticore, be frightened!', in a game book

    Excerpt: Weapons (MERGE)

Because people whined about it. Endlessly and at length. It was too hard it was too unrealistic, etc. It looks like they ended up caving to the whiners. That said... I don't care too much either way. I am a bit disappointed in the article itself, though I like the TWF 'nerf'. There isn't...

    Daily Art Preview

Hmm. Like the return to a more traditional manticore, but the art itself is a bit... dull. If I was interested in tracing each brush-stroke I might like it, but this just looks like a painting of a manticore. Not exactly leaping out of the art and going 'Rarrr!'
