    Players from Hell.

Sometimes a word can just become a common one for some people - where do you think the term gypped comes from?

[OT] What is Minneapolis/St. Paul like?

Outpost 2000 is within walking distance of my old home :-p At the risk of getting a little too political, there are nasty political situations involved with the public ones :-/ On the other hand, teachers have gotten much-needed pay-raises recently and Minnesota of course never cuts school...

Anyone want to explain this to me?

Newtons Laws of Motion sure seem like rules. Kepler's Laws of astronomy are pretty neat. Same goes for the Laws of Thermodynamics... :-p

    Crafting Armor in Medieval Times

There was a shop in Italy that apparently turned out 40 full suits of chain mail a month. Litterally, an 8-man shop or so. Don't know if they just bought the links, or what...

Song of Ice and Fire question

That's hard to say. Bran Stark? Everyone has shades of good and bad - that's why we love it :-) Though Gregor Clegane and a few others were pure evil...

    "I barf on the troll..."

Stomache acid is too high a pH to do acid damage. At best, it stings and burns a little. You need a pH below -1 before you get something that's going to do damage in a short amount of time.

    2d10 rather than d20?

Well, myself (and others) see this as a problem with the d20 system and not the other way around. The same issue comes up in skill checks, saving throws and caster level checks. I would actually prefer a 3d10 system but that may be too much for many people.

    2d10 rather than d20?

Aside from the slight addition to complexity, the only thing that needs to be added is that weapon threat ranges need rebalancing.

WotC setting search winner - Eberron

Well it's probably more like magic replaces technology sort of thing - golem pulled trains, and so on.

WotC setting search winner - Eberron

I am not wowed. It kind of worries me since if they wanted to hype the product, maybe they'd give it the one-liner? Right now it looks rather poor, actually. I suppose it's rather early but every other official D&D setting ever published is more intriging than this one at this point.

    Japanes Sword Additions and Corrections

I have to second this - or use 2d4. Honestly, the Bastard sword is a pretty mean weapon, and, oddly, people practiced in kendo do very well with a bastard sword. The difference, largely, is that the bastard sword was designed to crush armor and the katana to peirce flesh. IRL, a blow from a...

    Japanes Sword Additions and Corrections

Ack! It's No-Dachi or No-Datchi, dude No Doshi is 'my foot' or something like that. It's basically a Falchion. No reason to make it anything different. It's important to keep weapons in line with the those from the PHB. There isn't a reason to make it an exotic weapon since there isn't...

    latest wotc web enhancement: cities

It makes for a nice template, though it would have been nicer to allow for more diverse offerings in any given district. I still hate the population and economics breakdowns, but I do like the buildings.

FEAT: Hand-and-a-half sword technique (please critique!)

Going beyond the point, I've always read the long sword as being the hand-and-a-half sword, though I've heard it disputed on these forums, I haven't on Sword Forum International where the word would mean something. Beyond which, the hand-and-a-half technique was used to fight armor, not as a...

    Japanes Sword Additions and Corrections

For one, explain to me how holding a 45 pound barbell vertically in two hands is that much more difficult than holding it in the middle, unless you're a klutz. For two, I bench 300 pounds dude. I can max out half the machines at Bally's and have a goal set to max all of them eventually :D...

    Japanes Sword Additions and Corrections

I think his point was that many on these forums have had training in the SCA and perhaps other means (I've had sword training, but very basic stuff. How to wield sharp things with nasty edges of varying lengths, yada yada yada). Yet Anubis is the one discounting these people (at least myself)...

    Japanes Sword Additions and Corrections

Excepting that you have also ignored comments regarding 1: The balance can be on the hilt (which, oddly, seems to fall out of favor with more experienced swordsmen and women, rather than the other way around). 2: That greatswords are often held upright anyway, using a snap-action for the attack...

    Photographic Memory...

GURPS has rules for eidetic memory - coming in two levels, complete and partial. In partial you make an intelligence check versus some number, and if you make it, the GM or another player has to tell you what happened. In complete, there is no rolling, the GM or players have to tell you :-)...

Thinking about hanging up the D&D (not RPG) towel (longish).

When D&D gets tired, I go for Shadowrun or L5R. 7th Sea for awhile, too.
