    [ot] Mars colonization

It's a pun. There was once a really really REALLY bad movie called Mars Needs Women, there's some info: http://www.reelcriticism.com/ziggyrealm/reviews/marsneedswomen.html It gets joked about so much it's like a little part of American culture, even though most haven't seen it, many have...

Why Star Wars, CoC, and Modern?

There are some popular rules variations involved, defense scores (AEG's 7th Sea converstion, Swashbuckling Adventures, replicates this with feats a bit), Wound Points / Vitality Points (and halfway items like death's door being your con score), Skill Focus having a better benefit, speak/read...

    Sultans of Smack

He will also have 16 HP. Not that not sacrificing your con score changes much, but he spends the first combat round or two doing non-combat actions.

Using real world maps in your games

Otasan Uchi and City of Lies. While not medieval the way you may like, or d20, the setting is the same as Rokugan, only earlier. Would be interesting to see AEG reprint these in d20 form, to be sure.

    [ot] Mars colonization

For the moon landings we timed them to take place during the moon's early morning and night. The problem is that the whole moon heats up and cools down, causing temperature problems by convection that simply aren't a concern for a space station. Burying stuff would be one thing, but the...

    [ot] Mars colonization

Whether or not a body can hold an atmosphere depends on its escape velocity and the relative activity level of the particles involved at the higher temperatures that they can get to. I don't have numbers handy, but I'm pretty sure Mars could hold an Earthlike atmosphere of nitrogen and oxygen...

Exp reward chart is really beginning to annoy me

Re: About the calculator There is a large problem with the CRs and how they work out. Upper_Krust and others have done quite a bit of work on this. It is generally observed (and WotC admits this) that dragons deserve significantly higher CRs - generally 2-6. If you are reasonably confidant...

    [ot] Mars colonization

'high CO2 levels' hehehe The actual amount of CO2 isn't so dangerous, it's the fact that there isn't much of an atmosphere to begin with. Oxygen extraction from rust would probably be one method, but we wouldn't want to use bacteria (or be damn careful, eww...) The problem with the moon, or...

Exp reward chart is really beginning to annoy me

Charm Person is not powerful enough to make someone get a trusted friend (read: fellow PC) killed - that's what Dominate Person is for, and calculations suggest that the Gargoyle encounter was CR 8 = 2400 / 6 = 400 XP per person. And if the character rolls a 1 on his save, his items still get...

What kind of Sales can you expect from PDF?

Holy cow, man, even browsing the fantasy page has a hundred entries! Though it takes a lot of maintenance, people have a serious aversion to dealing with more than ~30 items. ~7 is a real nice number. I look at that list and just have to go 'wha?' Products come in genres (fantasy d20...

    Awesome Spell Combos

This is assuming they don't recognize the bead, and aren't moving away from it anyway (your caster level would have to be pretty insane to accomodate someone's move inside a sphere of force)

    Awesome Spell Combos

If someone's in the way, it simply doesn't form. By the original poster's ruling, the spell would prevent victems from dodging the fireball - which it shouldn't have. The spell should allow for a reflex save to prevent for anyone who is within a 5' step+reach, at least.

What kind of Sales can you expect from PDF?

Something that often worries me is that I sleep right under two bookshelves, which hold about a thousand books all told, some of them seven feet above my napping head. :-)

    If sombody ask you...

Re: Re: If sombody ask you... It is always better to start pithy and get people to ask for explanations, rather than boring them straight out. Sometimes I walk around with one of those anti DVD-CCA T-shirts. I get asked about it a lot, my response is usually a one-liner, and it turns into a...

    If sombody ask you...

That's why so many systems have templates. It's also why there are 'starting packages' in the PHB :-)

    Awesome Spell Combos

Umm, a Wall of Force must be unbroken when formed, I can't see how you can get 'no save' out of that.

    The Assassin Loophole

I have an NPC that I designed for a campaign I'm in... his name is Dariul Lyle. He cries himself to sleep every night. He's a Rogue 8 / Assassin 10th, chaotic neutral. For decades he worked as the guild's most successful assassin, over which time he began to see the results, even if...

[OT] How can I live without sleep? (Help me P-kitty!)

I used to have trouble with this a lot. You need water. Not milk or oj, but water, lots of water. Fortunately, a good binge lasts quite a while (months, even), and it can even help with caffiene withdrawel.

Upper Krust, where are you? [Immortal's Handbook]

Which is fine for level 2+ characters, it's the poor guy stuck at level 1 who's in trouble :-) I'm not going to touch UK's overhaul, too much conversion makes for confusion. I just set level 2 = CR 3, level 3 = CR 4, etc... until level 18 = CR 19, level 20 = CR 20. This would mean playing...

NPC levels vs age and experience...

Typically, I only consider unskilled to mean commoner - ie they jhave the jobs that require no training. Skilled means expert. I also tend to base the commoner/expert ratio on the literacy rate - ie, a more literate society will have a larger ratio of commoners, eventually almost replacing...
