D&D 5E (2014) Which Virtual Table Top are you using right now and what do you like best about it?

As Zio said, a lot has changed with it, though the core of the program is still the same as it's always been. I do recommend anyone who wishes to try it to seok out the d&d 5e framework someone made for it, as well as looking up how to make a quick damage/healing macro and it's pretty much good...

D&D 5E (2014) Which Virtual Table Top are you using right now and what do you like best about it?

I use MapTools because it's free, I've been using it on and off for nearly a decade (obligatorily shakes cane and tells the younger VTT kids to get off his lawn), I'm too cheap to spending any money on a program, and I'm only using really heavily using digital maps because I've no other choice...

D&D 5E (2014) Dhampir PCs as Vampire Hunters

I have a player in my Dragon Heist game that is basically playing a homebrewed version of the Dhampir now (we used half-elf as a base). He went shadow sorcerer and I gave him some vampire related facials as sort of a "magic item". His backstory is that he's the son of a Dread Lord of shadow fell...

    D&D 5E (2014) Does the Artificer Suck?

Precisely this. The problem isn't the paladin or the artificer, it because their DM was foolish enough to use rolled states for their game in the first place, and then expect any sort of balancing to be possible after. Rolling stats is not balanced by design.

    D&D 5E (2014) Tasha's Optional Class Features - Using Them or Not?

Not only did we incorporate all of them, we also have incorporated some of the class features that didn't make the official cut, with about 3 of our players declaring they will officially riot if not allowed to use the spell swapping feature for sorcerer/bard/warlock and the other learned casters.

D&D 5E (2014) What House Rules Can You NOT Live Without?

There are no actual house rules in 5e that I would label as required, which is saying a lot about the system as a whole compared to previous editions. That said, there are a few things I would likely never run a game without using: 1) Feats and giving players a starting feat at 1st level. They...

D&D General What would a succubus say?

"Aw, you did miss me!" When she is hit in combat: "groans Harder!" "You know, they say each of our kind falls in love with only one person, I think it might be you..." (she needs to say this to quite a few people)

    D&D 5E (2014) Umbrella Academy as D&D characters

So a player in my game was playing a character heavily based on Number 5, and we as part of it needed a bunch of NPCs that were the rest of the siblings. His backstory was that he was from Waterdeep and was one of the minor noble families that was into tinkering and making mechanical objects...

    D&D 5E (2014) Was the Rune Knight (in Tasha's) "over-nerfed"?

See this: I despise class features that encourage minmaxing and multiclassing and the single greatest thing from 5e in my opinion other than bounded accuracy is the trade off of multiclassing in this edition. I accept that cantrips are a necessary evil but I do NOT like that one can take 3...

    D&D 5E (2014) Was the Rune Knight (in Tasha's) "over-nerfed"?

I've another gripe related to a lot of the new mechanics in general. If they were so worried about power creep, why the hell did they make a bunch of mechanics that scale off proficiency modifier? It's just asking people to multi class and create that very problem?! This is true, though it...

    D&D 5E (2014) Was the Rune Knight (in Tasha's) "over-nerfed"?

Definitely true, though it would be nice to see an archetype for every different toolset for the artificer (i.e. magic chef, some sort of magic gaming set on, a painter, etc), due to all of the current archetypes having abilities That sort of force them to use the expected tool. I'd probably...

    D&D 5E (2014) Was the Rune Knight (in Tasha's) "over-nerfed"?

I'm thinking that might be what I end up making the 7th level ability if I end up doing a complete redesign. Seems appropriate for around that level, and it would mean less stuff competing for your reactions. And yes, that cloud rune might as well be a straight copy of the fey warlock 6th level...

    D&D 5E (2014) Was the Rune Knight (in Tasha's) "over-nerfed"?

If anything, the giants for feeling like they don't work together is just further issues on WotC's part, particularly when they have several written adventures prominently featuring Giants already in both this edition and previous ones. I'm gonna brainstorm on it this weekend and see what we...

    D&D 5E (2014) Was the Rune Knight (in Tasha's) "over-nerfed"?

My problem with the archetype is two issues: First, with only 6 runes to pick from, I cannot help but think that levelgating two of them is a bad idea without adding more rune options. Having played the UA version for quite a bit now, I can definitely agree that while it is powerful, that "slow...

D&D General Hero Forge in Color Is Open For Busniess!

Just remember the age old rule: the amount of money or time spend on a miniature for your character is inversely proportional to the amount of time your character shall stay alive. Just like the more expensive and better your dice look the lower they shall roll.

    Worlds of Design: Escaping Tolkien

I was not directing my comments at you specifically, but sort of responding to the previus posts in this thread. Upon rereading said thread I realize I definitely both conflated your post with another posters and had a bit of a misconception of your "Tolkien apologists" comment as an attempt at...

    Worlds of Design: Escaping Tolkien

Except the difference is that I am not a) insulting several well known and well loved authors of various different forms of media, of whom I am more than willing to provide a list of names that have just been mentioned in this thread alone. Hell if you want what is perhaps an unpopular opinion...

    Worlds of Design: Escaping Tolkien

Again, you are over simplifying and reducing what you call "flavor". There have been MANY different varieties that are largely different from one another. Even "nature loving" is an INCREDIBLY broad description. Does it mean you only love forests and trees? What about animals? Fungus? Rot? Death...

    Worlds of Design: Escaping Tolkien

As I have said in every one of my posts, it is lazy and terrible writing that is the real issue, not the existence of elves or dwarves. This is pretty much it though, we are talking with people who are so quick in their opinions to cry "Tolkien!" that anything resembling a long lived nature...

D&D 5E (2014) Class choices that didn't sync well with the campaign.

Personally I feel as though it would potentially fall under a "speak with your DM about potential campaign hurdles/build issies" umbrella. While neither the DM or player is really at fault here, it doesn't change that multiple builds are sort of sub optimized by certain types of campaigns, and...
