What actors/actresses get a raw deal in Hollywood?

I think I have heard of this - probably in connection with Sting, who I used to be a big fan of. Bean's the lead? Cool... I'll have to see if I can rent it.

Government Types in the Middle Ages?

Even in an area with a feudal overlord, the towns and cities might have a mayor or council who could wield considerable power. I was just reading a book about a 5-year-long peasant revolt in medieval Flanders (called A Plague of Insurrection - very good, by the way), which was ruled by a Count...

    Trusty Cursed Swords

Do the rules actually say that you can magically enhance a cursed weapon, and how the curse and the beneficial magic interact? What if the additional enchantments just worsened the curse? Ooooh, a -5 Longsword of No Defense (or something like that, whatever the opposite of a Defender would be).

What think of new Troy ad that was shown at Super Bowl?

I have to admit, I am hoping that Troy will be great - but this trailer didn't thrill me.

    Obscure Classics of Science Fiction

"Slippery" Jim diGriz, obscure? That makes the world a sad place indeed. :(

The Dragon Never Sleeps and Shadowline, both by Glen Cook.

What actors/actresses get a raw deal in Hollywood?

As far as I'm concerned, Sean Bean could play a leading role in a film - but aside from the Sharpe TV films, all he's been able to get it seems is supporting roles - Boromir, the hero's partner in Equilibrium, the villain in Goldeneye, etc.

    [SPOILERS] Angel Episode 1/28/2004: "Damage"

Not to worry. I actually posted that before I saw your response. :)

Is Drizzt destined to become a Classic?

I guess my point is that even though it's "chock-full of all sorts of D&Disms", it's still a good, well-written book. Innovation counts, but it isn't, in my opinion, the be-all and end-all, even in fantasy and science fiction.

    Sweet, fun TPKs.

As a player, I'd personally rather play a board or card game. For fantasy stuff... probably Dungeoneer these days. It's not the random class or alignment determination, but the combination of all those factors mentioned. What did you do with the orc sorcerer with a charisma of 8? What on...

Ok, can someone explain the "mook rule"

The point of mooks in, say, Feng Shui, is generally not to be a real challenge to the player but to serve as a showcase for the players. The challenge they'll face is the other "named" characters. Another aspect of "mook rules" is that they simplify things for the GM. Generally speaking...

    [SPOILERS] Angel Episode 1/28/2004: "Damage"

The link that John Crichton posted? THANKS. I loathe and detest spoilers. We don't even get the preview "next week on Angel" bits here in Canada ... I prefer watching the show in a way that I can be surprised by everything.

    iconic flying beasts/steeds

IMCW, one nation (LN in general outlook, but LE wouldn't be a stretch) is ruled by an overclass of arrogant, status-oriented warriors who ride giant hawks in battle, with large aeries in the mountains. Somewhat inspired by Dave Duncan's novel Shadow.

How can wizard really be an elf's favored class?

From a balance perspective... None of the core races receive a racial bonus to a spellcasting attribute. It might be an accident, but it does mean that no core class has a necessary "edge" in its spellcasters over another.

    Looking for Core Classes

I believe all of AEG's books have core classes in them - Mercenaries and Wilds certainly do - and I could list the ones from those books, but I think generally they're a little overpowered, which would mean you'd have to do work on them anyhow.

    [Feb] What are you reading?

Good choice! :) I have The King's Name, by Jo Walton, sequel to The King's Peace, sitting waiting for me to read it. What I'm trying to finish reading at the moment is Piracy in the Greco-Roman World by Philip de Souza.

    [SPOILERS] Angel Episode 1/28/2004: "Damage"

Yeah, actually this message has been hammered down on them a bit recently - this episode was stronger, but Spike's comments to "Crockett and Tubbs" in the previous episode also come to mind. ("You don't change a place like that, it changes you.") I hope we will see the cyborgs again, or their...

    The Mummy (D20 Style)

I have only seen the first movie, but I think it's pretty much much pure cinematic pulp. So if you want a d20 game, I guess there's Forbidden Kingdoms, and the pulp game in Polyhedron. Aside from that, there's Adventure! (the original being a WW system game, but it'll come out as a d20 game...

    Classics of Fantasy

The Hobbit - An absolute classic and wonderful book. My dad read it to me over successive nights as a bedtime story. :) The Books of Wonder - Haven't read it, but I've read several other books by Dunsany which were very good Watership Down - I wonder if I don't think it's a bit overrated, but...
