    (Adventure) Heroes of The Vesper Peaks (Uriel judging)

    Marl starts to slowly lower his crossbow, and says with a frown, "All right... I'm listening." He puts his left hand on the hilt of one of his swords, though.

    {OOC - can we talk out of initiative order? If not, I'll wait till Vanadan and Kreepto have acted}

    Marl gives out a yelp as he takes in her macabre appearance and then adds, "if you aren't, I'll apologize for this later." And shoots her with his crossbow. {Attack +4, Damage 1d8/19-20, sneak attack damage +1d6}

    Can You Recommend Fantasy-Detective Works with a Film Noir Flavor?

    Someone mentioned Simon R. Green upthread; his Hawk and Fisher books would qualify, I think. Personally, I don't like them that much, but the three-books-in-one-volume softcovers are a good length read for the price.

    "Then let's charge after him now. But be sure to give him the option to talk... he may not be an enemy."

    recommend short stories?

    I highly recommend any of Roger Zelazny's short story anthologies. The Doors of His Face, The Lamps of His Mouth, Unicorn Variations, The Last Defender of Camelot, and Frost and Fire. Those are out of print ones. There is one collection which is in print, unhelpfully ALSO called The Doors of...

    "Looks like him, but I don't think I'm fast enough," Marl replies. He hefts his crossbow. "I'll follow as fast as I can, and shoot him with this if he makes a break for it."

    (Adventure) Heroes of The Vesper Peaks (Uriel judging)

    Marl tries to look unalarmed as he moves further into the room, to get a better look at the white cloth and figure. Is it a figure with white cloth only covering part of its body? Could it be the individual in white robes he saw earlier in the mining camp?

    Howl's Moving Castle review (Miyazaki)

    I suspect that it wasn't only Japanese children who went to see the film here in Japan. I had to skip it because there were no releases here with English subs. :( The summary seems strange. Well, maybe they changed the plot from the book, which I don't believe had anything to do with a war...

    (Adventure) Heroes of The Vesper Peaks (Uriel judging)

    "Ok then..." Marl looks around the group. "Kunst, Grog, and Kreepto, I assume you three can see in the dark... why doesn't one of you go first, and the others help the rest of us who need light to see? And the person in front could take this," he says, holding the sunrod up.

    [Feb05] What are you reading?

    I finished that one not that long ago myself! Pretty good but it made me realize I remember more than I thought... but it was a great refresher, and the battle diagrams and colour plates are pretty nice! I just finished reading The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde. Hard to describe, an alternate...

    (Adventure) Heroes of The Vesper Peaks (Uriel judging)

    "Well, the glow seems to have stopped," notes Marl. "So I don't think any of that rock-fire or fire-rock is there. Travelling in the dark sounds a bit risky, so will someone take this? Just hit it against the ground or a wall, and we'll have light again in a flash." He digs around in his...

    (Adventure) Heroes of The Vesper Peaks (Uriel judging)

    Marl lets go of Kreepto when he tries to bite back, throwing up his hands. " You think the fire's coming this way?" He will collect his thrown dart and his crossbow, looking up the passage to see if there is any sign of an approaching glow. "What was that voice from up ahead saying...

    (Adventure) Heroes of The Vesper Peaks (Uriel judging)

    Marl goes up to Kreepo, grabs him by the shoulder with one hand, and with the other, slaps him a couple of times across the face. "Calm down!" he hisses at the kobold. He continues, slowly and quietly, "Now, what do you mean by rocky fire? And what do you think happened up ahead?"

    Need ideas for a disease-based scenario

    I don't think I can give recommendations on how to structure an adventure about getting rid of a disease, but wanted to put my $0.02 in that running an adventure in which the PCs pursue someone into plague-struck territory (because that is the location of the person's hideout/stronghold) could...

    (Adventure) Heroes of The Vesper Peaks (Uriel judging)

    Marl leans right to get a slightly better line of fire, and throws one of his darts at the creature. {+5 to hit, 1d3+1/20, piercing damage} "Anyone *cough cough* got any bright ideas?"

    Enterprise (1/14/05)

    Agree that it was a character development episode. Note the bits between T'Pol and Trip, for instance. I thought it was all right overall. Yes, kind of a downer, but reflecting humanity and all that. On the note of character development, though, did anyone else think that Archer's angry...

    History of Sailing

    Looked something up about the rudder, and finally came upon this: "The lateen sail, the compass, and the stern-post rudder. The Age of Discovery, which runs roughly parallel with the Renaissance, could not have happened without the help of these three inventions that made it safe and efficient...
