Changing core races to LA +1?

Wow, that's a tough one. I think I see where you're going -- adding lineage as another flavor for the world, with a mechanical bonus? I guess if I were in that situation, I'd start by looking at the Racial Paragons from UA. Now, admittedly, they're three-level classes, but... Duno :)

Cost/Time to use a Golem Manual?

For the record, I like Delta's take on it. 10k body + 35k book seems very under priced for a beastie like an iron golem. I hate when descriptions, like for the golem body, use the term 'at least 10,000 gp.' I mean, maybe I'm cheap, but... unless there was some functionality issue why it was...

DMs are too easy on their players

I see both points that the OP is trying to make. I don't agree with them. OP said, as a matter of fact, that the Stoneskin (all variants) are known by the ancient red great wyrm. He said, poitnblank, that this particular use of Stoneskin - the 'brick wall effect' - is known to the dragon...

Cost/Time to use a Golem Manual?

The way I understand it - which might be flawed - is that you pay for the body. The body costs a bare minimum of 10k. It looks like the 10k includes all the rare arcane things you need smelted into the casing of the golem. So, to me, it's looking like it would cost the price of the manual +...

Adventuring within the body of a dead god...

Speaking of Monte and dead gods, I'd recommend Requiem for a God -- I think that's the name. One of the interesting things in there is about the powers of godsblood, as well as godsflesh. Also, the energy given off by the corpse can have other weird effects.

    D&D "Super Heroes"

I think when we talk about D&D in terms of superhero, I think an important issue is also the power level, like in Mutants and Masterminds. I don't nessecarily agree that D&D 20th lvl characters = Superman. But, they definitely equal heroes that are 'training-based' or 'gear based' -- Cap'n...

    Hasbro Leverage

When I grew up in Michigan, I remember clearly buying D&D and TSR products at the Meijer toy department. It was about a 4' wide display, bookrack style, and had so much of this... Cool Older Kid Stuff!... On entering mass-market areas, I had been browsing WotC jobs online the other week, and...

Pitch me your ulitmate D&D movie

I agree a few things I've read in here: -- Don't make a 'D&D' movie. Make it based on something else; I'd love the concept of Against the Giants, etc. It saves on stigma from the first D&D movie - second wasn't so bad - and also like someone said, Marvel's doing good by making Iron Man movies...

    The Magic-Walmart myth

I don't know that the Red Wizards in the Forgotten Realms really count as a Magic-Walmart in my eyes. Their 'embassies' sell magic items at 10% off list-price, true. However, the real purpose of the embassy is: 1) it makes money, 2) it gives their apprentices ways to hone their skills in...

    Help me capture my PCs

I'm going to have to side with the comment that 'capture works better in fiction than in a game'. My first suggestion would be also to look at how can you alter the plot so it IS more like the Fugitive - the players will appreciate it more, especially if they're problem solvers. I figure if...

    Obscure RPGs

Orkworld by John Wick, the man behind the Legend of the Five Rings rpg and Seventh Sea. What I enjoy about Orkworld is... literally 7/8 of the book is culture and world info, history and lore, about the world the players, who are orks, live in. Some examples: Dwarves want to perfect...

    Will I like Dragonlance books?

I've only ever read the first trilogy. I did, and still do, enjoy them. I agree also that it's not word-heavy, but there is a flow to it. I think the objections people have about the way the kender Tasslehoff Burrfoot is written is because of the way it's shaped halflings in D&D sessions...

    what do you do

I'm a retail wageslave. My primary job is to get people out of the store as fast as I can - be it by 'directing traffic' or helping unload carts, et cetera - as well as to talk nearly constantly. The reason, I believe, is so the last thing these people see in a store is someone friendly and...

Medical Transcription and working from home

My mom works at home as a transcriptionist. 1) I'd agree with the comment about how are her typing skills, but there's something else. The ability to deal with frustrating accents, or ways people speak. Some doctors do not enunciate enough; there were plenty of times where my mom would ask...

How to get a world with polar seas

The other reason I mentioned a meteor is it's something that's been kicking around in my head for a game. The meteor would also be, in theory, the basis for a region where there would be strange metals and crystals - mithril, adamantine, etc. And, by being extraterrestrial, it might make...

How to get a world with polar seas

Now, first off. I'm not an expert at climate shifts, or anything. :] I don't know that it'd be possible to have seas at BOTH poles. It's my understanding that the reason lakes and rivers form would be the grinding of the glaciers. It's how the Great Lakes formed; as the glaciers retreated...

What the hell happened? RHoD (spoilers)

The first problem I see is the line about the elf being immune to the paralysis. Elves are immune to magic Sleep effects; not paralysis. YMMV.

    Best non-WotC Base Classes?

My favorite, non-WotC classes include: The classes from AE/AU The revision of the sorceror and bard Monte Cook did in Book of Eldritch Might 2. The classes in the Black Company sourcebook. The most interesting, I think, is the jack of all trades. Literally, the jack of all trades - his...

    Pirates of Dark Water

For the Dark Water game my friends and I played in some years back, we used the original roll-and-keep Seventh Sea - not swashbuckling adventures. We used their world and overlayed the Pirates of Dark Water things - Bloth, the Leviathan, the treasures, the dark water. What's also scary is...
