In matters relating to plants that have something to do with farming. It would also help in fixing plowshares, planting seed, etc.. Diplomacy and bluff as it pertains to opposite sex unless they just think you a ho, or maybe only in 1 to 1 situations. Knowledge (nobility) is a bit so-so. Hard...

Is WoTC even relevant to you anymore?

I don't have a problem with running 3E. But if the system requires some people to buy additional products to make it easier, that there tells us something about the system (or the people  ) I say bring on the 4E. Make it streamlined but not dumbed down from the start.

    [Gleemax]Another thing not to like.

But how's that relevant since Rouse's been saying that the Gleemax TOS hasn't been released, and the current TOS is a holdover from WotC boards. You know, the TOS that's been there for years and you've also already agreed to if you ever posted to WotC boards. If I understood anything.

    Armor Spikes: Unpractical?

Hi, Quite often in threads the equipment in D&D derided because it's not historically accurate. Is it correct to criticize equipment on this basis? I mean, most D&D worlds are not historically accurate. For example, in medieval Europe most big animals were already extinct, and armor was only...

Is WoTC even relevant to you anymore?

WotC will be that much more relevant to me when they publish 4E. SW Saga showed the design skills of WotC staff very nicely. If the can make similar innovations and streamlining (while keeping detailed customization of PCs)(note: I dont want D&D saga, something new) in D&D, I'll be a very happy...

Theories regaurding the change in rules of D&D.

I don't think D&D will ever portray marines or any other modern humans that well. With just the basic schooling I could academically PWN most medieval scholars in knowledge skills. People should keep in mind that D&D is not a commoner simulation; the rules mostly deal with stuff that adventurers...

    D&D 4E In terms of theme, tone, and spirit, I hope 4e . . .

Here's a link to fierydragons top 10 1E art: http://www.fierydragon.com/db/2003-07-09.htm Well, it's not a link since the linky button doesn't work, but you get the point. EDIT: it worked! Overally I don't see what the big deal is. 1E art is awfully static even when it's depicting action. Is...

Theories regaurding the change in rules of D&D.

This has little to do with reality (or fantasy, as it is). 3E is actually more lethal than previous editions. People like to yap about the 'appropriate CR' encounters usually resorting to falsehoods: 1) that the EL can ever only be equal to average party level and 2) that EL = AVP encounters...

Theories regaurding the change in rules of D&D.

RAW only says that starting 1st level PCs are, what, 18 year olds. That doesn't mean that 18 year olds couldn't be higher level. It only takes about 1 year game time to reach level 20 (that's how one of my campaigns went 1-20 levels: 1,5 years real time, 1 year game time). So surely it's not...

Theories regaurding the change in rules of D&D.

Your character is by the book, but you can't do all that stuff you listed with Profession (sailor). For example a file-and-rank sailor probably couldn't do all fishing, navigating and cirque soleil balancing, but just some of those. And not all sailors could swim, so I'd keep that one out. The...

Theories regaurding the change in rules of D&D.

I wanna go adventuring with those dudes! Where's my dice? That is not true. In PHB, page 80, ..for example, a sailor knows how to tie several basic knots, how to rend and repair sails, and how to stand a deck watch at sea. The DM sets DCs for specialized tasks. So, all things you'd expect a...

    D&D 4E In terms of theme, tone, and spirit, I hope 4e . . .

God damn that's bad. 3E art has some misses, but that's just dorky beyond imagination. Wait, this was a joke, right? That picture was never in a product .. got me going there for while :o

So, what if a player does a 'weak' build?

As a DM: All the same to me. I just ban some of the more frivolous stuff. If somebody makes a sub-par PC, go for it. I wouldn't pull my punches, either. (Of course, intelligent enemies might notice that one PC is not worth attacking). As a player: If I was in an adventuring group that's...

What do you miss from the good ol' days?

Actually in our games there's less rules lawyering in 3E. It probably has little to do with the ruleset, and more with the fact we've gotten older and really don't want to spend time arguing.

Theories regaurding the change in rules of D&D.

Probably does. However, my hypothesis is that RPGs attract much more of the former than the latter. Hence, 3E is usually better for a random n00b DM. EDIT: I might've fall into circular logic here; RPGs probably attract more detail oriented people because that's a requirement for most systems...

    Henchmen, Followers, Cohorts and Companions

One character, definitely. We don't usually hire help, but if we do, DM plays them. Cohorts can be directed by the character 'owning' the cohort, but DM has veto (indeed, the DM should play the cohort, but a) he's not as familiar with it as the player b) nobody wants to watch DM rolling for...

Theories regaurding the change in rules of D&D.

Do you have a quote for this? As it went in the games we played, other classes couldn't climb and they definitely couldn't pick locks. When that happened to a bunch of adventurers in The Hobbit, was it written as a standard task for any adventurer?
