Theories regaurding the change in rules of D&D.

I don't see a problem here; what and how people do in real life has never had much bearing on D&D characters. Besides, the capability <-> attack bonus link has always been there. Even in 1e wizards skill at magic and beating with a dagger are linked. The more in tune a cleric was with his god...

What do you miss from the good ol' days?

Oh, I guess I also miss characters rarely dying. I accept that adventuring should be difficult, dying is too easy in 3E sometimes compared to 1E (or compared to value of photocopied sheets).

    My simple prediction about Gleemax

If we get right down to it, is EN World really fitting and good name for this site? *runs away* :p

To me that sounds like you want your cake and eat it too. If you whip up a PC who's a desert dweller before adventuring, you're likely to lack certain water related skills (like swimming, sailing, fishing) which you might need later. Or maybe you're just thinking up backgrounds that aren't very...

Theories regaurding the change in rules of D&D.

w3rd. As to SHARKs examples, I'd rather have my players present me with a complete PC, background and all (and skill points to match it), rather than keeping it vague, trying to weasel bonuses and change things in mid-flight.

    My simple prediction about Gleemax

My prediction is that Gleemax could never offer content to match the more refined tastes us better people here at ENWorld have. Plus, paying for some content? In what kind of deluded world do WotCers live? Way to run a business ..

What do you miss from the good ol' days?

Hiring an NPC assassin to take out the PC of another player. Killing Hera (yup, the goddess). Killing 300 sailors at once by hacking out the bottom of their warship (ring of water breathing). Razing a village. aaah .. good memories.

    [Gleemax]Another thing not to like.

Gamers seem to be awfully paranoid lot. Years ago some people thought that the d20 license was just a ploy so that WotC could use other peoples work. They didn't. Some people even thought that the setting search competition (also by WotC) was a scam. One homebrewer even found the prize...

Indentured servitude & equitable slavery in D&D

I'd only use it as a plot device (save slaves) or background noise (country X is eeeevil since they use slaves). The economic impact from adventurers POV would be minor - they're so rich they could just hire help instead of buying slaves, taking into account the comparably great wealth...

What's a 10-foot pole really worth to you?

There's been a shift towards 11 ft poles. Pits and other dungeon formations tend to be in 5 or 10 ft grids, so that extra foot can be crucial. However, if the question is "what not to touch", I presume the answer to be same as for 10 ft pole. You just can not touch it from 1 foot farther.

My players usually want the book version. That dragon kill isn't a legitimate kill unless it's by the books! :p

Satyr - An excuse for rape, or an interesting creature?

Sex can have a place in some tables. However, rape isn't about sex.

    [Gleemax]Another thing not to like.

Any place that has lots of people around, also has lots of annoying people around. That's just the way of the world.

Where did this strange DM quote come from?

He would make a good village idiot NPC.

How do you deal with captured PCs?

On weekend I was at friends parents summer cottage, drinking beer with my friend. This old geezer comes to visit from the next house over, and as the evening progresses, the old man starts talking war stories (served '39-45) (he claimed those stories were the only thing his memory was good for...

The character dies in my head

As a player I like to make efficient characters. It doesn't detract from my roleplaying; a exaggerated flaw could just as well be a crutch for 'roleplaying opportunities'. If another player decides to make an xp and resource smooching joker with no contribution to the party, my character would...

    Why keep adventuring?

Bloodlust. Loot. Experience*. * while this might sound like a metagame argument, surely anyone living in the D&D world would realize they get immensely more powerful just in a couple of months of adventure. I bet some adventurers would continue doing it just to see how powerful they might get.

D&D 4E Hypothetical Scenario: What if WotC chooses never to do 4E?

I would be pretty pissed. It's nice to have more stuff to buy, and, *GASP*, maybe they'll make the game better.
