    Blind PCs

Adventuring in a party is a compromise. On one hand every player is entitled to make a character she/he likes. On the other hand, the other players can't be forced to adventure with one player making an evil or useless character. I mean, why would the other character go on an adventure with a...

    D&D 4E I'm not gonna do 4E

Too early to call. If it's good, I'll switch, if it isn't, I won't. Absolutely no reason to make the call yet.

WotC Replies: Statements by WotC employees regarding Dragon/Dungeon going online

Ok, they say they've got the goods. Fine. Would've avoided a lot of flack if they had told what this newfangled greatness is going to be at the same time when they announced axing Dungeon. If what's coming is really that great, of course.

    OotS #442

OotS has been in top form for a while now. At some point in the past it was bit of a bore, but that must be, what, 100 episodes ago by now? Great work!

First Moldvay, then Dragon and Dungeon...what's next

Do the magazines count as two separate entities? Then it would be three already.

Pathfinder 1E Paizo no longer publishing Dungeon and Dragon

Dayum .. Dungeon and Dragon mags were the only D&D products I've bought in a couple of years (in addition to Ptolus). And I've bought almost every Dungeon. So very sad. Shouldn't knock before trying, but I don't have much expectations for the electronic content. Dungeon has always been an...

    I can't believe this worked...

That blindness spell also works well on beholders. Particularly if you're in the anti-magic cone, ready action to cast blindness on the condition that it closes the central eye. A blind beholder is pretty much crap.

Myconids. Just due to how they were depicted in Drizzit books - say what you say about the dark elf, but Salvatore did have a fresh take on some D&D races. His depiction of the myconids living in the underdark was very interesting, making them seem suitably alien while still giving pointers...

    Don't underestimate the Bard

Maybe it's better in 3.5E, but in 3.0E one of my players made a gnome bard for Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil. I warned that it might not work out so good, but he still wanted to do it, so who was I to stop him. It was like bringing an army marching band into friggin' Stalingrad! Poor...

    Taking over a country

Starting a business shouldn't be that expensive. Going rate for a slave in FR is like 50-70 gps. 50,000 should get you a workforce of about thousand slaves. Or if you're paying one silver per day for labor, it's still 5 million man-days of work. It would be odd if that don't get somekind of...

An Examination of Differences between Editions

PHB tends to cater to rules that adventurers find important and use a lot. For example, rules for procreation are not included, even though for real people (and real fantasy people, if that makes any sense) it's one of the most important functions. Hence, appraise is included since it's...

An Examination of Differences between Editions

A very good point. Some people think that not covering something in rules tends to create "swinging from chandeliers" creative stuff. For us, it created a game where something not covered by rules, wasn't done. Tactical aspects were mostly absent in our 1E games. Boring...

    Ridiculous amount of buffs

My group uses buffs like crazy. There's even shorthand for casting all the buffs. "I cast hours" means the characters casts all his buffs that last 1 hour per level. "I cast tens" means casting all buff spells with 10 minutes per level duration. It hasn't caused much problems, though. The...

An Examination of Differences between Editions

Why did you think that that was what TSR intended? If they had intended those spells for NPCs (like S'mon also pointed out), they would've been in the DMG. Then again, magic items, most of which certainly were intended for PCs, were put into DMG :\ The more I think about it, the PHB / DMG...
