An Examination of Differences between Editions

Never stopped us before  BTW, Shadowfax was a pokemount. That's all I have to say about that :p

An Examination of Differences between Editions

To pick nits, the scale is open ended, IIRC at +5 above or below. So average party level of 10 should have some encounters at EL 1-5 and 15+ and AVP of 15 should have some ELs 1-10 and 20+. EL 1 exists for both groups, so the minimum EL for an encounter does not scale. That combined with status...

In your campaign, can the PCs "lose"

Next character: orphaned at birth. Just sayin.. don't over do it.

Those same charts are in my 3E DMG. Plus what I said above about 3Es EL distribution and status quo encounters.

An Examination of Differences between Editions

Actually, no, if you go by the 3E DMG. It recommends that certain proportion of encounters should be more than 5 ticks lower than average party level. That's why RttToEE has bands of Orcs in places where the PCs are expected to be 10-12th level, for example. Then, the DMG also has long...

    Charles Ryan on Adventures

What a surprise. ENWorld is usually very accurate in predictions. NOT! :o

What didn't people like about Greyhawk From the Ashes?

The main strength of GH seems to be that it's not supported - a DMs setting if you will. This pretty much makes supporting it a catch-22, given that a setting without support will stagnate and die.

Leadership - DM's how do you handle Cohorts and Followers?

I also did away with the wonky 3.0E cohort XP rules. I just checked to cohorts level against the cohort chart (that lists the cohorts level as function of the featees level & cha) and adjusted the cohorts level accordingly each time the 'owner' PC levelled. The rank and file followers never...

Are the alternate base classes becoming core?

I wouldn't consider the sky falling even if they did creep into core in 4E. I always liked RoleMaster for the fact that it had a gazillion classes (professions). "Oh, you're a Force Mage? Cool." D&D would work better in this regard because of PrCs, so there's no stupidity like a 1st level...

DMs - What rolls do you make for your players?

I let players roll as many rolls as possible. In certain cases I roll the dice, but I try to keep it to a minimum, so that when it happens, it really does seem special. I mean, I always figured that a thief could ballpark how well he moved silently or picked a lock, not to mention climbing...

What didn't people like about Greyhawk From the Ashes?

As it happens, Carl Sargent has written (IMHO, of course) one the best fantasy RP adventures evar, for WFRP. Although Power Behind the Throne wasn't the easiest adventure to run, it was also very rewarding.

Leadership - DM's how do you handle Cohorts and Followers?

Fully by PC. Same method as PCs (4d6, drop lowest most recently) Any class the PCs can take. The player. I find nothing more boring than a DM directing and rolling attacks between creatures/NPCs/entities he controls.

Pathfinder 1E If Paizo bought Greyhawk could they make their money back?

GH is problematic because of its fanbase. You've got the purists who only accept anything by EGG, and sadly those seem to be the loudest portion. So, whatever you decide to publish for GH, you've guaranteed a lot of bad press from the get-go on the internet :\

Sales of upcoming Greyhawk Ruins will determine it's future

WotC is probably intelligent enough to judge an adventure by adventure sales standard. So, it won't have to sell as much as a campaign setting book to be deemed succesful. IMO there's nothing lame in first doing a product that requires less initial investment, and then do a campaign setting...

Would you play a class with no special abilities?

I'd leave that to the NPCs.

What I Learnt From Last Night's Session

Horses have been a joke in my games since they died a lot in WFRP 1E.

    Rotating GM's?

Isn't there the risk that if they prepare a campaign together and then one is also a player, that he can have, as a DM, NPCs hide treasures and then he can seek those out with his PC? ;)

Poll: Would you ever take this feat as a PC?

Nah. I'd rather take a feat that helps me from getting into a situation in which I would require that feat.

    Maths errors in RPGs

I wouldn't care about the stat block errors either, but every time WotC makes such an error god kills a puppy.
