    Whats a DM ta do?

Since I started on ENWorld, I've known what's what in 3E better than the "F"LGS.

    LOTR from a gamer's perspective

Well, both Tolkien and Lucas made changes to their work after first editions ;) IIRC Tolkien modified the phases of the moons at some points, for example, to make the times different.

    LOTR from a gamer's perspective

I don't know man, the eagle idea sounded a lot better than this. What's the function of the pogo sticks? Isn't mordor filled with uneven terrain and sinkholes? Not a good look for pogos. I won't even get into the purple paint and the farting* But I will say that the Nazguls' keenest sense in...

    LOTR from a gamer's perspective

As a side point, I always thought it was ridiculous that the Nazgul were "disguised as riders in black". That's not much of a disguise if you ask me. One look and you know something's amiss.

    LOTR from a gamer's perspective

The eagle thing would work, easy. Send the eagles on scouting trips regularly with orders to only retreat if chased. Now saurons troops get used to them. Then one time there's the ring with them. Nobody expects it. Boom! (That's what they did with the first a-bombs. Flew really high over the...

    Looting and the State

Well, the states in our world are actually trying to make sure all the 'monsters' aren't killed. If they actually wanted to make sure no hikers get killed (at all), it would be no problem to make a large mammal species extinct. It just happens that we (rightly so) think that the existence of...

    Looting and the State

In order to tax a treasure trove, two conditions need to apply: a) The taxer needs to be aware of the treasure AND b) The taxer should be capable of collecting the taxes (as in defeat the adventurers if they refuse paying Now if a) and b) both apply, the lord or whoever could go collect the...

    Favorite Webcomics?

Thanks for the tip. That's about the funniest roleplaying humor I've ever seen. Damn.

Interesting trend in comics (OOTS, etc.)

How much to tip the pizza delivery guy?

Nah, it's ok, but not expected. Nobody's paid under minimum wage though (€5.45 or so), so they aren't screwed if you don't. But the service is rarely great, either ;) I'm always surprised by how many people who aren't interested in serving are in the service industry

You Don't Talk Shop at the Dinner Table

Nah, we talk about everything. We're friends outside the game, so it's all good. The game is also an opportunity to socialize for us, since people have busy private lives.

    Box Text

It's not that useful for me because the table language is Finnish. Usually I disregard the text completely, in some cases if it's really good I translate it into Finnish and once in a blue moon I read the English text ;) I could live without it.

    Evil power behind the king?

I once made the evil behind the throne (actually it was the barony next door to the players barony) an intelligent sword. The story was standard "the barony was goodish-neutral before, but at some point it became very repressive and obsessed with mining with slaves*". The players figured that...

Hey, people in prison need D&D too!

Somewhere there's a gamer so desperate for gaming (and free upkeep) that he's right now, after reading this, stealing something :) Parents basement, monkeyhouse, what's the difference? :p

    The "orc baby" paladin problem

Kill. As a DM I'd say his god would be all the happier for it.

    Who else dosn't like clerics?

I just love the 3E clerics. Well, not like that, but they are my favorite class. Anyway, in our group a lot of people play them, and the group doesn't even get a walking bandaid, but rather 200 pound unit of Gods Vengeance. Who will fire your cure wand for you if you ask nicely, but most of the...

Do you prefer D20 or To Hit and Save Tables

35 combatants and it takes but a few minutes? That's not the 1E I played. A fight with 20 zombies once took an hour in 1E because it was just the usual "roll-miss-roll-miss" routine. Not very engaging, either. It's faster than 3E, yes, but your exaggerations diminish your overall argument.

    Can You Hang a Halfling?

Legal documents from a fantasy world could contain a lot of interesting stuff like that, what with there being so many strange kinds of creatures committing crimes. For example, how do you punish an Ettin, if it wasn't destroyed outright like my Paladin would do. Would you hang both heads or...

    Can You Hang a Halfling?

Actually, there are many. My Paladin broke a thievery ring of around 80 halflings. That's why I had to put them in a gulag, the jails were full. Even though 8 halflings would take the space of a single human .. gotta talk to the DM.

    Can You Hang a Halfling?

Yes, my Paladins Halfling Internment Gulag #1 can provide scores of test subjects.
