That JG kickstarter campaign is exactly the sort of thing I would've backed...glad I somehow missed that one :erm:
This Red Box KS campaign is on my radar now, so will definitely get my money...
I suggest it might be a good fit ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
I'm not sure a new edition is required—4th edition is pretty good. But now that FFG own the rights, it seems quite possible they'd would work on a new RPG for L5R...and Genesys is their new (and only) RPG system...
But what would I know? :)
That monkey on the cover of Cults of Prax is damn angry...and it's staring right at the reader, baring its fangs, and seems to be saying "after I eat these scantily clad people, I'm coming for YOU!".
At my table it's a hit. No offence to the OP and to everyone who agrees with him, but it seems to me you're overcomplicating it. I read "critical hit" and simply think, "yeah, that's a hit".
What if it was phrased "on a 19 or 20 you hit critically"?
Peace.
How would people feel if their DM house ruled this and said, DEX bonus to hit, STR bonus to damage for all weapons (except maybe crossbow). (Basically how GURPS works, as mentioned above.)
I understand what you're saying, but I like the LA mechanic because I suspect it'll be easier to DM (at least for me) because I can keep focus on those actions per turn, instead of worrying about when in the encounter to play one of the "big three". :)
