Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: The ranger, revised... overcompensation?

But... but... you would lose the bear granade! I LIKE the bear granade!

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: The ranger, revised... overcompensation?

Wargs in ASOIAF are basically (Core) D&D Beastmaster Rangers. They act through their pets. And Greenseers are something of low level druids. Funny thing: there is no real paladins in ASOIAF, only fighters (and maybe barbarians). Eddard Stark would be one hell of a paladin, although arguably...

you are sooooo wrong. There is a lot of assassins, and I at least never saw anybody playing an arcane trickster at all. The assassin certaintly don't need more boosts (I have a halfling one on my table)

2d8 are from the boar stats when you acquire it. every level after the boar gains an additional HD, unless I've misread. And I've forgotten the proficiency on all saves and the 11th level uncanny dodge

Between the AC proficiency bonus, the hit dice per level, and the ASI I think that the pet is actually very tough. Let's say a Lvl 8 Boar: 7d8 +7 plus two ASI (I would put 12 to Dex, 14 to Str and 14 to Con, so actually +14 HP), an average of 45 HP, and an AC of 16. It does an average of 9...

I didn't read it. Why it was deleted?

    Unearthed Arcana UNEARTHED ARCANA Index

A review of the new Unearthed Arcana: The Ranger, Revised, september 21, 2016 (in Argentina it's the Spring Day and Student's Day, or like many of us say, the Sex Day).

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: The ranger, revised... overcompensation?

I just checked the Wizards page for a new Unearthed Arcana, and I stumbled upon the new Ranger article. Overall I must say that is good, and that those people actually listen to the folk's feedback, but I'm a little doubting what actual impact will that have on many games. Many features aren't...

AMA with Monte Cook (Numenera, D&D, Monte Cook Games, Malhavoc Press)

One question about D&D 5th edition: is there any plans yet to publish the books in Spanish? There is a whole community of players waiting for it. I even offer my services (even for free) to edit the books after all, I've been translating unofficially several AD&D handbooks to my friends prior...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why does 5E SUCK?

You can believe it or not. This is more a matter of styles of play. Whenever "magical" healing was a need, we use to use a Druid. Simply, exploration and preparation were enough to assure a high survavility, making threats as basilisks an easy task for Lvl. 1 characters. Magical artillery...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why does 5E SUCK?

If any, this will be too my biggest complain about 5th Edition too. I really miss the "Spell Research" rules from the AD&D DMG. They actually played an enormous role in my games, altering greatly the reality of my worlds. One of my favourite characters, my brother's Necromancer Sínsumi had been...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why does 5E SUCK?

That is a pretty high bet. That has not been my experience at all. I played for near 15 years now, and neither in AD&D nor D&D 5th Edition the survavility was dictated by a cleric in the group. Ever. And me and my players have encountered several out-of-our-league CR monsters, and the fact that...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why does 5E SUCK?

@tyrlaan, first of all, I apologize to you if you find what I said aggresive. I can see why you consider me to be rude. For one part, I should give you an explanation: my English is horrible. I'm from Argentina, and while I can communicate and try to be as grammaticaly correct as possible, there...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why does 5E SUCK?

But that is a false assumption. Hard means "world" hard. Look at this way: power, training and expertise are the way to do hard things. But still, to the other characters (whom probably don't have Proficiency or Expertise) is still hard. The Expert guy at level 10 can accomplish more often very...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why does 5E SUCK?

This is a response on @AbdulAlhazred post about how the DCs "should" guarantee success at about a 60% of the time. In fact, it's a description about 4ed made by a 4ed fan, against 5ed, which is supposedly a deadlier game (or at least a frustrating one). Many people (myself being one, but...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why does 5E SUCK?

Here it is your equivalent. You see? It's easy to extrapolate the above to the whole game. Pemerton, you are a pretty reasonable guy. As I said earlier, there is a bunch of predefined guidelines, obstacles and such. They are not defined by level (with the possible exception of traps, which...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why does 5E SUCK?

My wrong. I actually understand that you were talking about skill checks, not ability checks. But that is not a matter of BA at all, because you are talking about non trained skills which does not count as a BA problem, because BA matters where there is a skill check, not an Ability Check. And...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why does 5E SUCK?

False: a +5 difference is only the difference with a maxed or ignored stat, not a trained one. Wizard will probably never go for more than a 10 St, and no proficiency at all in Athletics. A Lvl 20 Fighter has probably 20 St (+5), and +3 by RA to this particular problem (smashing a door is not...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why does 5E SUCK?

I don't know if any of you are actually working on Literary Theory (professionally or just Goodreads/ TV Tropes). I do both of them (sorry, but it's in Spanish). I'm not trying to sell you an Authority Fallacy, but the fact is that there is enough evidence to say that world construction (and the...
