    Planarite is solidified elemental matter/mana. The Coaltongue's firegems are planarite, Nalaam's magic crystals are planarite, witchoil is planarite. Just a convenient generic term, and a useful one given how important the planes are to the setting.

    My Zeitvice document has more information. Basically, Book 9 states that the lighthouses will mind-control the world into obeying the Ob's commands. But in Book 10, the world is far from controlled, and indeed its noted in newspapers that some Ob revolutionaries were arrested.

    I don't think full rules are needed since only Book 2 does this 'half in the Gate' thing, and it's only for the lab and the transiting researchers. Could even be worth simplifying to 'not in gate/half in gate/fully in gate.' But I'm sure some of your players will appreciate the extra detail.
