    D&D 5E (2014) 5E imbalance: Don't want to play it

What makes you think I'm talking about facing? ;) As for the redesigning classes from the ground up, etc...I can definitively say that is not true. ;)

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E imbalance: Don't want to play it

You are looking at the latest open playtest documents, not the latest playtest documents. Big difference there. :) Also, as it has been mentioned and linked many times, they have confirmed tactical options. (See: Legends and Lore)

D&D 4E What can Next do to pull in 4e campaigns?

So, speaking as someone who is currently running 3 D&D Next games, started playing with 3E in 2000ish, and ran a five year 4E game (and for several years, had 2-3 4E games at the same time).... 1) Note: 4E is my favorite published edition of D&D (NEXT is my new favorite, but it's not out yet...

Legends & Lore: What Worked, What Didn't

Aye, the low AC is super brutal, and unlike other editions of D&D, there are few to any ways to bump their AC. When building characters, unless they're wearing heavy armor, I basically tell folks to make Dex their second highest attribute, otherwise they'll get killed AC wise. Also, the HP...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E imbalance: Don't want to play it

Not true - there are now complex fighters & simple mages. Please drop this idle speculation unless you're looking at the latest documents.

Legends & Lore: What Worked, What Didn't

FWIW, as someone who has access to more...recent documents, I would not worry about this. :-) Assuming they keep down this route, they actually did solve some of the biggest discussions that these boards have had, including one that recently re-surfaced.

Legends & Lore: What Worked, What Didn't

For auto success, I've done the 5+level rule - if a DC is lower than 5 + the character level, I let it auto succeed (unless its an attack, trap or spell related DC).

D&D 5E (2014) Hp as meat and abstraction

Oddly enough, while I like Damage on a Miss conceptually (and 4E is my favorite released version of D&D, NEXT being my overall favorite at this point), I don't like it the way it is currently implemented - because I see potential future hazards with "attacks that deal damage" feats & abilities...

D&D 5E (2014) Clarification on Next basics (attack & damage rolls and bounded accuracy)

I know first hand they have a list of "bugs" they are actively looking at and fixing. The attack / AC is one of those things. The attack values thing is not too bad so far, but I've only gotten a game with the current test packets up to level 3, so we'll see how it looks moving forward...

    D&D 5E (2014) [L&L] Campaigns in D&D Next

So, multiple responses to the multitude of questions 1) As someone who DM'd 3E/PFS/4E for many years now, 5E is so far being the easiest to DM (DM'ing 3 sessions of it a week, one with hardcore PFS players, a second with a group of 8-12 year olds, the third being a group of 20something ish...

    D&D 5E (2014) First Time DMing 5E - What Should I Look Out For?

It has stayed freeform so far (running the newer adventures via D&D Encounters) - that's a pretty solid design decision they've made.

    D&D 5E (2014) First Time DMing 5E - What Should I Look Out For?

So, since Lokaire didn't actually play the game it seems - don't worry too much about those comments 1) Freeform - the game lends itself to much more freeform action than 3E or 4E. The idea of "move" "action" lends itself to a simple repeatable phrase when a player starts their turn "Where do...

D&D 5E (2014) The number after "Hit: X" in the bestiary?

Not usually - but for instance, one of my groups is a group of younger kids (8-13), and I help them practice their math skills by using standard damage all the time; they can figure out how many hits the fighter has left, etc etc.

D&D 5E (2014) The number after "Hit: X" in the bestiary?

the 7 is average damage (average on a d10 is 5.5, rounded down to 5, then +2, for a total of 7). It's for DMs who don't want to necessarily have to roll damage every time a creature hits.

    D&D 5E (2014) Kender are a core race?

Oh, that one? I wouldn't worry about it - they just wanted to get some feedback about the class. Unless something radically changes, I'm pretty sure it will go in a Dragonlance specific book. It specifies that Kender are unique to Krynn and Warforged unique to Eberron. The reason half-orc...

did I miss something? where did we find out Kender was in the core PHB?

D&D 5E (2014) it appears to be very easy to break the game

Note - the assumption of even a +1 weapon or shield at higher levels is not necessarily a good one. The way bounded accuracy is currently set up, any magic item legitimately increases your AC relative to all attack bonuses. So if you have +3 due to magic items...monsters aren't really going to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why I Think D&DN is In Trouble

I actually am OK with the freelancers bit, just because I think it would be too hard to make that much money as a full time employee, without being able to develop for multiple games and freelance at multiple places at a time. I know WotC is also generous about offering folks the option of FTE...
