How Important is leveling in RPGs?

Vitally important to me. Also I vastly prefer systems with granularity in advancement so a character can be improved nearly every secession in small increments, such as WFRP2E and the Warhammer 40K RPGs.

Spelljammer - Rebuilding the Tradesman, WorkInProgress

Post smaller pics please, those illos just borked my screen format. Still it is great to see your work without those 3D modeled humaniods / bipeds. I don't like those at all. It is like they trigger uncanny valley for me. Loved your landscapes and this ship is shaping up real nice.

D&D 5E (2014) Poll: Experience, Leveling, and Groups

XP is a reward for attending and playing the game. Awarding XP to those who don't show punishes those who kept their word and showed up when they were supposed to since they could have taken that time and worked overtime, got hammered or pursued their gender of choice. No, it isn't always easy...

DM Help: Encouraging players to stay vigilant

Problem is the recent D&D systems give XP to buffoons who stumble into traps. That creates a "why bother" attitude since no effort is needed to achieve the XP. Traps that make the player miss out on combats may be better than lethal traps. After a lethal trap, the player gets to fill out a new...

    What's The Best Monster Book?

Your tag was "All D&D" Since it is an officially licensed D&D derivative, my vote is for 4E Hackmaster's Hacklopedia of Beasts It doesn't hold back monsters for later, doesn't try the space wasting "1 monster per page" shenanigans & doesn't put style over substance. It gives you monsters and...

    Caring for your books

Caring for my books generally involves re-gluing spines or drilling through the joint to thread wire through like giant staples.

Generally went with Chicago in both games.

Pathfinder 1E Clerics and negative energy

Are you making this character to fight your presumably villainous PCs? If so, just give the cleric the ability & a 2 point con boost and adjust the CR up a point. If you are trying to run this character as a DMPC interloper amoung the PCs, read these... Game Theory: Bad Ideas: The DMPC...

    D&D 5E (2014) Racial Weaknesses

Uhm, they are not supposed to be cool, that's why they are called flaws.

    D&D 5E (2014) Racial Weaknesses

I've always imagined a dwarf's liver is nearly as dense as stone.

    Kickstarter: Demons & Devils Miniatures

The figure per dollar is lower with the Demons and Devils, but Reaper's was for a factory level production line up. Only a tiny number of gaming companies would be able to come close to the value reaper offered in the bones kickstarter.

And just what makes you say that?

    Superstitions and Spells

Spell targeting: Created the concept of "The Evil Eye". Even Stilled, Silenced and Eschewed Component'ed, you still gotta do a standard action's worth of looking at your victim. Also this is why merely looking directly at someone can lead to a violent altercation, especially when the person...

    Still playing Skyrim?

No, the level scaling bugs me too much. Sadly I have to play on 360, otherwise i might see if there are some mods to tweek things.

    More Gamer Drama

I'd say you owe to the other players to get this done BEFORE it impacts another session.

    Improving a Dragon's DR

Yeah, even if PCs get modestly powerful allies that would normally be subjet to the DR, like say giants, all the PCs gotta do is cast a first level spell on the ally's weapons and the DR is out the window.

    D&D 3.x 3.5 when are you no longer flat-footed

But a bad ruling! It completely FAQ's over the one chance a rogue had to perform a "Reach for the sky!" maneuver. Once the enemy’s turn has begun, he’s no longer flat-footed (even if your readied action interrupts the first action of his turn). Even though ready says The action occurs...

    Kickstarter: Demons & Devils Miniatures

Here is a question I asked over at the kickstarter... Is CSM willing to make any statements for those who are concerned the project is biting off more than it can chew with this enormous dragon? Models this big have been HAMMERED with delays and cost increases, such as the Heresy Dragon. How...

    Pathfinder 1E Soft Cover

Was this door at the end of a 5' hallway? If there was a space to the side of the door, then the rogue should have been able to move to the side then fire. He'd still suffer -4 to hit for firing into melee, but he'd use the rules for "choose a corner of your square" to not suffer from cover...

    Pathfinder 1E Soft Cover

Need more info, notably what is meant by IN the doorway as to how it relates to a combat grid.
