    D&D 3.x 3.5 Identify

Nasty little item, certainly sucks to have one's stats whacked because Gygax had to take a cheap shot at The Arduin Grimoire.:hmm:

    "Ignore Cover"?

Well, is the Rules section on cover written as though Superior Cover is its own term, or just a variant of Cover? That is the place to start. Cover and Concealment Cover: Yadda Ya... Superior Cover: Yadda Ya... Cover and Concealment Cover: Yadda Ya... Superior Cover: Yadda Ya...

Dungeon Crawl Classics Role Playing Game (DCC RPG) anyone?

For those who know the system, how does magical healing operate? Last time I looked at the system, the healing the cleric was doing didn't remind me much the literature that the authors claimed inspired the game.

D&D 5E (2014) Why the HP Threshold on Spells is a Bad Idea

There is no rule stating low level foes stop showing up when the players get to high level. They won't be much of a threat but they should still BE there, working in large groups. This is one of the reasons WHY 1st level monster HP are so low, unlike 4E where throwing four 1st level kobolds...

Enchantment (Charm) [Mind-Affecting] and Hive Minds?

Charm isn't control. The ant you've charmed will be charmed and the hive mind may or may not notice something is going on depending on what the rules for the hive mind state. Chances are as soon as you charm the bug, it will be psychically telling the hive mind we have good ally here with me...

A mace is just a masterwork club!

Light mace counts as a light weapon, despite weighing a pound more than a club. Club is more suitable for throwing but is beaten out in the damage department by the heavy mace, both of them being one handed. Being different in the proficiency department is quite understandable since maces will...

Pathfinder 1E What is Paizo going to do when 5E comes out?

Make an office betting pool on when 5.5E and 6E will be announced. But on a serious note, if 5E has a fair and intuitive Gaming licence, I'd say they'll likely copy and paste a Golarion setting together for 5E.

Giants: How big should they be in an a Fantasy RPG?

It took a half a decade and an entire edition, but wotc is upgrading giants in size. Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game Official Home Page - Article (Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum)

    Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum

Rough adjustment of the giant line up to show the new size differences. About time D&D giants were giant again!

    Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum

I'm on the fence about his depictions of the giants, but all of them pretty much had visual clues that narrowed the field to where each only fit one classic style of D&D giant. Cool, looks like hill, stone, frost and fire giants are getting upgraded to huge!!! Close to their 2nd edition sizes...

    The Bigger They Come . . .

    Agreed!

    The Bigger They Come . . .

Maybe it was exaggeration or maybe the author has never been to a farm, but anyone else how BIG hill giants are being described as? "A hill giant can eat a pig in one bite or a cow in two" No way that isn't huge size class unless they have mouths like a Tsuburu No Oni. And that is the weakest...

Why do people take such a big issue with spell banning?

A few spells are pretty much vital to the game. Detect Magic, Cure wounds, Dispel magic, Break enchantment{debatable], Raise Dead, Heal, Limited Wish{for undoing effects], Stone to Flesh, Resurrection & Wish/Miracle{for undoing effects]. But other than those, ban away. Make sure to look at...

Privateer Press to Launch Iron Kingdoms RPG

:hmm:Thanks to D20 & 4E, I'm still soured on using tactical minis wargaming as the default combat resolution mechanic in a RPG. Maybe it will be quicker than d20/4E, but the precision of a wargame is only needed when there isn't someone acting as a neutral arbiter.

    D&D 3.x minotaur v invisible attacker 3.5

Being attacked by an invisible creature is similar, but technically different than being caught flat footed. Yet one more situation in this ruleset where A+B=C but C-B≠A. Of course if that minotaur was at least a 2nd level Barbarian, then Invisibility would not help anyhow. Invisibility...

ZWEIHÄNDER Grim & Perilous RPG - a Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay retroclone

How intrinsically tied is the rules system to the "all injuries are lumped together for purposes of healing" notion? For me it feels almost unplayably artificial when a chirurgeon / healer HAS to treat 3 separate injuries from one fight as one lump total, yet can heal the next injury on its own...

Pathfinder 1E Deadliest energy or attack type in the rules

Yrthak 60' range +12 Ranged touch for 8d6 every round at CR 9 hurts pretty good. At CR 9, Red would approximately be doing a 40' cone 5d10 Reflex DC 18 for 1/2 once every 1d4 rounds. [4d10 at CR8 and 6d10 at CR10] Yrthak by MikeCorriero I'd prefer the critter to be described as a giant...
