    D&D 5E (2014) Volo's Guide to Monsters: General Discussion.

Just some interesting trivia I saw: http://imgur.com/a/KJZ7Z Seems the image for chapter 1 and 3 reflect different PoV of the same scene.

    D&D 5E (2014) Volo's Guide to Monsters: General Discussion.

I don't really consider a weakness for a couple reasons. They're obviously targeting newer players, who likely don't have a previous lore book to fall back on, and might be curious as to how these things work. Additionally, it's actually pretty useful to have it all in one book, as now you're...

D&D 5E (2014) Parts of the game that get a lot of hate but you love

I don't know if I see hate for it so much as dispassion for it. A lot of people tend to overlook it in favour of encouraging people to go for the PHB or the Starter Set. (I believe that somebody new should be pointed to the Basic Rules, as it serves as a good means of "Try before you Buy." The...

D&D 5E (2014) Easter Eggs in Volo's Guide to Monsters

On a similar note, the Aasimar quote says that it's from the Tyranny of Dragons. Nothing that hints at new adventures, but it's a neat shout-out to the other 5e adventures out there.

D&D 5E (2014) Help me create a good Hobgoblin battle mage.

Do you at least have access to the SCAGtrips? If so, go abjurer. You'll get the total hit point pool of a fighter, decent (though not amazing) armour, And the scagtrips will provide you with a decent melee attack that combines with your weapon proficiency well. And when you cast a major spell...

D&D 5E (2014) Volo's Guide to Monsters Hobgoblins: You would think there are many cities.

The MM lore paints them as the type that would likely populate your evil Empire (being the type to aggressive conquer territory and even subjugate other races), but also as not having any real nation to them, instead being mere tribes scattered across the land. It's weird, and seems fairly...

D&D 5E (2014) XP tracking vs. story progresion leveling, an observation

It depends on the game. For a West Marches? Definitely XP. And don't award it just for kills. Allow players to get XP for negotiations, too. One thing I want to bring back is gold for XP (though unlike some here I think I'd prefer it on a 1:1 basis, as it makes levelling faster but money for...

    D&D 5E (2014) Volo's Warlock NPCs

Not everyone uses Eldritch Blast, or deals with magical darkness enough to warrant seeing through it. At will AC boost that's better than any non magical armour I have proficiency in? Sure.

D&D 5E (2014) The All-Kenku Party: Is it possible? Would it drive a DM insane?

There's a sidebar about the mimicry trait in the book. It sums it up to: Please don't overdo it. It sounds fun, but it'll be tiring for everyone else. Instead, talk about the noise they make and then what that's supposed to convey.

D&D 5E (2014) Classes with resources feel like usage is too restrained

If you want to go even more silly, you just have lines and lines of peasants along the countryside (a la the peasant railgun) who've readied their action so that as soon as they get the parcel, they hand it to the next person. Now you have shipments travelling across continents in six seconds...

D&D 5E (2014) Classes with resources feel like usage is too restrained

It seems the spell wouldn't work for trade anyway because for some illogical reason it's limited to only creatures (another rule I'll probably waive in the future). If it weren't, then we could theoretically break versmilitude but make trade work with a "Peasant Amazon". Everybody readies their...

D&D 5E (2014) Classes with resources feel like usage is too restrained

(I've found a way to solve the space bar thing.Put the last character you want in your text *first* and then type everything that comes before that character. The spacebar issues only seems to come up if the spacebar is that last character in a wall of text.) As for why random encounters don't...

D&D 5E (2014) Classes with resources feel like usage is too restrained

The point is, the risk (not guarantee, you want PCs to rest sometimes) of unplanned fights that interrupt the downtime of their 5MWD serves as a deterrent from resting whenever they want. Sure, it's a 1/5 chance if you use the seeming default of 17-20 on a d20, but when you only get a long rest...

D&D 5E (2014) Classes with resources feel like usage is too restrained

I think I found that mechanic. It's called random encounters. The threat of a monster interrupting their rest is (while not perfect) a fairly decent means of prodding your players not to stick in one place too long.

D&D 5E (2014) Classes with resources feel like usage is too restrained

But they actually don't expect you to make 6-8 encounters. It was giving a rough estimate of how many encounters you had to go through if you kept all the encounters at medium/hard difficulty, which is defined as little to no chance of a PC actually dying. I'm pretty sure that's more giving an...

D&D 5E (2014) Barbarian UA Survey is up!

I must say after giving it another read through my impression of the Storm Herald abilities went up, while my opinion of the Zealot (specifically the 6th level Zealous Focus) went down. I don't really see Zealous focus as worth the opportunity cost associated with it. Losing rage is *huge* and...

All we have is the panel, where they've said the current UA Ranger has received a warm reception.

D&D 5E (2014) Sword Coast Legends: After the fall.

The main reason I never picked it up was because of the level scaling: From what I heard it retained the magic item treadmill that 5e removed (I liked the removal of that treadmill, though I'm still trying to train my players that they don't need to keep buying better weapons like in an MMO)...

D&D 5E (2014) Check out this beautiful Sword Coast print!

As a decoration, it's excellent; I have it on my wall as well (though only 11*17, as that's the largest my print shop handles). As a game reference for PotA, it's like using a map of the Western Europe to get information on an area that's about half the size of Ireland.

D&D 5E (2014) What do you like, and what do you not like about Volo's Guide to Monsters? (spoilers)

Regen's not new for non-magical characters. The champion fighter also got something similar at 18th level.
