Listen to the full Gamehole Con Panel from WotC's Mearls, Perkins, and Crawford

On the note of this panel specifically, One of the things Mearls mentioned (somewhere in the Q&A session) was a complete revamp of the mass combat rules. He talks about how for the most part it's been given a level of abstractness, with the idea of the PCs serving as a spotlight to certain...

Listen to the full Gamehole Con Panel from WotC's Mearls, Perkins, and Crawford

I've gotten it to work, but it's a very odd solution. Effectively you cannot use the spacebar if it's the last character in a block of text, but if it's not the last character, it will register. So put a period down, and start inserting your text before the period. As for the bard colleges...

Removing The Stat Penaly on Volo's Guide Orcs

Then pay a bit more gold for a lantern. A lantern is much easier to conceal the light of without extinguishing it entirely. They're a great tool for sneaking around with reduced (but not completely eliminated, yes) risk of exposing yourself. EDIT: Does Volo's guide say anything about...

    D&D 5E (2014) Tome of Beasts+ 3pp Books

I can think of one reason for players to use it, though it wouldn't be a common situation. Namely, in your combat as war scenarios, that sounds like an excellent means of disrupting the industry of an enemy city. Evil, probably, but effective.

D&D Inducted Into National Toy Hall of Fame (Along with the Swing and Little People)

For those curious, this reddit thread is relevant as to why D&D won: https://www.reddit.com/r/DnD/comments/52me37/vote_for_dnd_to_join_the_toy_hall_of_fame/ It was no contest once the internet knew this was happening.

Removing The Stat Penaly on Volo's Guide Orcs

It's really only meaningful if you're attempting to make travel and getting prepared for long expeditions the important part of your game, and even then your bigger limitation is container capacity than carrying capacity.

Removing The Stat Penaly on Volo's Guide Orcs

It's there literally for flavour/encouraging you to play to type (even if I think those could be handled in ways that don't use penalties) Aggressive and Powerful build are not going to break the game if you have smart orcs, while kobolds are just built weirdly. I'd rebuild the kobold entirely...

D&D 5E (2014) Sword Coast Legends: After the fall.

I'm suspecting in the future wotc will look towards their already established partnerships. I remember sometime last year or earlier this year hearing about beamdog hiring more writers for some reason. Odds are for a game/expansion to an existing game. I haven't heard if this was for a D&D game...

D&D 5E (2014) What do you like, and what do you not like about Volo's Guide to Monsters? (spoilers)

Explained in VGM by the fact that the Mind Flayer uses a distributed network of memory storage. You'll have a mind flayer that knows everything there is to know about human metallurgy, while another is unmatchable in their knowledge of obscure board-game rules.

    D&D 5E (2014) Rules question

Are you proficient with the weapon you are using? If so,t hen yes. Add it to the to-hit.(And just as a reminder, though you may know this already, but your proficiency bonus is never added to damage.)

It was one of the official previews as well: https://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/s--2MJq2lab--/c_scale,fl_progressive,q_80,w_800/aywcfloykwrhn6g7hrjw.png

Why there won't be a "Player's Handbook II"

The name they're teasing us with, "First major mechanical expansion" will become the official name of it. That's what I expect.

    D&D 5E (2014) Perception vs Investigate

According to the DMG, perception finds doors, investigation opens them. In context to traps, I would translate this to be "certain tiles seem to be dustier than others, while numerous small holes open down the side of the left wall." Investigation would be: "Judging by how ever so slightly...

Unearthed Arcana New Barbarian Primal Paths in November 7th Unearthed Arcana

The solution I've best gotten for the zealot while talking about it on reddit is to play up the aspect of being a pawn in its flavour. Perhaps they don't even know who the god giving them favour is, all they know is that they channel the energy needed to keeping fighting even when an ordinary...

D&D 5E (2014) Adventurer's Gallery: NPC List, would there be an interest?

I'd like to see a few more examples before I take the plunge, but if they have distinct and memorable personalities it might be worth it.

Unearthed Arcana New Barbarian Primal Paths in November 7th Unearthed Arcana

I still have a little concern over the overlap of the zealot and the cleric, but I don't know if that's a failing of the zealot or a failing of the cleric for being too AD&D in its flavour (holy warrior who channels divine energy) but without the priesthood elements to fall back on (as they seem...

UA to Become Weekly! Pendleton Ward Helped On New AP!

I'm not sure what to think of the flavour of these, (I have minor concerns that the zealot path is starting to tread on the toes of the Paladin and Cleric) but rage beyond death seems like an amazing Path capstone.

D&D 5E (2014) DM HELP! My players killed Strahd too easily!

While in its mist form, a vampire cannot take actions. That includes dashing. Yet another instance of where playing strictly by RAW makes 5e more complicated than simply ruling by what makes sense.

D&D 5E (2014) DM HELP! My players killed Strahd too easily!

Thank you. I keep forgetting minor things like this that could do such a thing. Doesn't help that Strahd is limited to a 20 foot movement speed, with no actions allowed to speed it up, and thus no outrun your wraith. (Killing a Vampire with a Vampire Spawn feels weird, though.)
