The biggest question that arises about this picture for me is, why would a samurai be on the page of the soldier background? A samurai would be a noble.
I never once used the word traditional.
I am buying this edition for the ruleset, not anything else. So I kindly ask you to not tell me what I should or should not do.
Not a fan of non-western in my western fantasy. That said, why is it always a Japanese Samurai from the Edo period? Medieval armor is far less flashy as is simply foot soldier armor. Korean armor was also more interesting as far as east Asian armor goes and much of the time, a lot less over the...
I liked the concept of an eladrin race, just not how they replaced the high and grey elves and how it screwed up the cosmology. Their background needs cleaned up.
The position makes no such assumption. The only thing it assumes is that the campaign world uses a cosmology that resembles what the core D&D rules with an evil lower planes (Nine Hells, Abyss, Hades, etc).
Of course it's my opinion, it's in my post. What they should have done is put the tiefling, dragonborn, and drow in the DMG. Though if I had my way, they would put the half-elf and half-orc in the DMG as well under rules for creating crossbreeds.
From the point of view of someone that really doesn't like the tiefling being in the PHB, this preview just exemplifies why I don't like it. No one that looked like that art would ever be tolerated in any part of a civilized world.
Tachi and katana are not modern nomenclature, they are precisely what the Japanese called the swords and the styles for using the swords. They have a different balance, weight, and center of gravity. They were used differently and for different purposes. When we are discussing rules for a...
The katana was not a cavalry sword. The tachi was a cavalry sword and it was lighter and more tapered and curved.
The video you pointed to shows off the initial strike which is still a two-handed attack as the off-hand is used to balance (and flip) the sheath so you can get a smooth initial...
That piece of art is consistent with that description, but I still feel it is only because Bruenor Battlehammer is ruddy skin with red hair. They even give Bruenor's description in a quote from the novel. It's as if they disregarded altogether every piece of D&D fiction and art.
They could have...
I am curious if they will have tiefling subraces or not. We can't judge from the page count since it's the last race on the list. Would they group non-lower planes planetouched under the tiefling name? I could see them do it.
I am disappointed the Eldarin didn't return in some form.
It's not wrong at all. A katana is balanced for two hands, not one. With only one hand, you can't get the correct cutting arc nor the force needed to cut through anything. Yes, there was a fighting style with dual wielding with a wakizashi much like there was a style with fighting with two...
I have no idea why you are even replying to me. There are no ability score penalties in 5e. If you read the person I was actually replying to, a leak says they get a Charisma bonus and in their description it says they are reviled. He says that those two combinations doesn't make any sense. I...
A high Charisma does not necessarily mean you are liked. It might improve the chances that you are liked, but things such as appearance and simply what you are have a much greater impact on how someone else perceives you.
The last straws for me when it came to the Realms was the 'getting along with orcs' in Drizzt novels and the whole 'death of Eilistraee plot', both came from novels. After those two things, I will never touch any new Realms lore again. I stopped reading all new Realms novels. I was growing tired...
