    D&D 5E (2014) L&L Sept 16th . The Latest on Skills

I don't think I like the +5 bonus for expert. That gives a +16 for a level 20 in a skill which is just too much and breaks bounded accuracy.

D&D 5E (2014) So How Many Different Kinds of Elves Can There Be? A Thread on Subraces

I don't think background feats then or even backgrounds now can cover it. Racial bonuses are advantages and abilities that is a inherent of the people he comes from, not what the individual has done with his life. He could be descendant of a people that have lived in a magical area for thousands...

D&D 5E (2014) So How Many Different Kinds of Elves Can There Be? A Thread on Subraces

Why would it need to be divided such a way? Why not have Barbarians, Metropolitans, Cosmopolitans, and other different types of humans? There are a lot of different variants you could have in a fantasy world such as a type of humans that come from a place steeped in sorcery and get innate...

    D&D 5E (2014) Wandering Monsters: Dragons Revisited

In past editions, I've been disappointed with dragons as a whole, but these dragons sound awesome.

D&D 5E (2014) Strip Background out of subclass

A knight has to prove himself to be knighted or go through a squireship. Someone isn't really a gladiator if he can't actually survive in the arena. He might be a slave, but not a gladiator. Gladiators went through intensive training before they ever stepped into the arena. If he survived even...

D&D 5E (2014) Strip Background out of subclass

Sorry, but I can't imagine a 0-level Knight or Gladiator. When Knight was a background I repeatedly commented that it didn't belong as a background at all because it isn't a background. A Knight is a trained and veteran warrior, as is a Gladiator.

    D&D 5E (2014) History repeating itself?

Development is not over. The only thing that is over is the public playtest. From here on is closed playtesting with handpicked testing groups. Bruce Cordell said they are half way done with all of the core game done.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Q&A: More Classes/Subclasses, Retraining & Playing Without Subclasses

If every subclass would start at level 3, where does that leave the Mage and every subclass under it? The idea that you play a general Mage and then decide if you want to be a Warlock, Wizard, Sorcerer, Artificer, Psion, etc at level 3 would be the stupidest idea in the history of RPG design.

    D&D 5E (2014) LL- Subclasses and Complexity

It's a good idea to a point. The problem is they are trying to jam classes under the Mage that have no business being there. The Psion should not cast from the same spell list as the Wizard, just as a Warlock shouldn't. Neither the Psion nor the Warlock should have cantrips or spells at all. The...

    D&D 5E (2014) Old settings coming back?

I would like to see a lower magic and more gritty medieval campaign setting. There are already a lot of high fantasy, very large world, settings.

D&D 5E (2014) Do you want the Sorcerer, Warlock, Psion, and Artificer separate from the Mage class?

The more you narrow down the classes, the more complicated it becomes to add options and the more homogeneous those options become.

D&D 5E (2014) Mage Suggestion for WotC: Modular but separate.

Yes, they could designate a place in the DMG to explain how these different spellcaster modules can be swapped around for campaigns that need something specific instead of having to write something in PHB trying to explain to players how they must choose one before they can go on and choose a...

D&D 5E (2014) Mage Suggestion for WotC: Modular but separate.

Classes are by their very nature rigid. There is absolute no difference in having feat and ability progress outlined on a separate Sorcerer class table than having it with the Mage class which the Sorcerer is a subclass of. It also doesn't increase the page count by a whole lot, probably less...

D&D 5E (2014) Mage: Wizards, Sorcerers, Warlocks, Artificers, Psions, oh my.

The Warlock is not what is generally considered a witch. While there is a cliche of witches making pacts, it isn't the only cliche for them nor is it exclusively for them as there are a number of myths of people making pacts that don't have anything to do with witchcraft. Witches are generally...

D&D 5E (2014) Mage Suggestion for WotC: Modular but separate.

My suggestion to Mike Mearls and the team working on D&D Next over at WotC is "modular, but separate". The Mage class would still have "Wizardry" and encompass magic systems that are very similar to it such as the High Sorcery in Dragonlance, Preserver magic in Dark Sun, Wild Magic, etc...

D&D 5E (2014) Mage: Wizards, Sorcerers, Warlocks, Artificers, Psions, oh my.

In 4e, every class is AEDU. D&D Next is about once again differentiating the class mechanics again. Why have any classes at all with that logic? Each class is separated based on mechanics and lore. The Sorcerer being separated from the Wizard is no different than the Barbarian being separated...

D&D 5E (2014) What about warlocks and sorcerers?

Honestly, when people say they want different spellcasting system options, they really mean a spell point system. The reason is because most people do not like psionics and that is the only place you can find a point based system in D&D. They could easily just include one for the Wizard in the DMG.
