Darkness and the Black Dragon - Need advice

Silly question, but you CAN make perception checks to see the dragon? You don't have line of sight, ya know? I ran across that with my shaman, as I couldn't send my spirit companion in after it, as it'd wink out from lack of LOS. Also, I ran into a situation where a similar cloud made it so I...

PC death early in a combat. What to do?

Don't forget to point out how Soulfire armor is a good solid investment and death ward isn't that hard for a cleric to cast before bbeg fights.... At 16th level, most parties have realized that negative energy sucks and they should never have to deal with it ever again.

    *Standard* Array

    Unless I need to qualify for something weird, I tend to go 16, 16, 13, 11, 10, 8.

    Game night cancelled

Totally that for me. Though, then you run into your non-gaming roommate hearing you pretend to be elfs and the compulsory "You know, you are pretending to be elfs."

Divine Power - Finally some nifty new toys for the clerics and paladins out there...

It's anti-life energy. Radiant is god energy (also light). Plus, all the evil paladins and clerics still shoot radiant damage. It's only weird when you consider Vecna.

Divine Power - Finally some nifty new toys for the clerics and paladins out there...

They probably should have just gone and called radiant divine. Would have saved a bit of that "My evil cleric of darkness shoots shiny happy energy?!" assuming that goes on. Radiant beat up divine, holy, lawful and evil energy and took their stuff.

    D&D 4E Disarm in 4E

Razorclaw shifter, dex 20, trained, that feat in Eberron that gives you +5 acro and athletics whilst shifted? Also background traits?

    Divine power info

The magic domain feat makes me sad that my hybrid sorcerer/paladin can't take it. Ah well, sanction and that str to challenge damage will make people much less likely to attack allies anyway.

    Dealing with unthankful players

Thing is, that is a different skill set. I do have to figure that several players wouldn't't WANT to gm, as I am one of them. Does everyone say yes when offered that role, as it seems to be a fairly common piece of advice on the boards here. What if they say no?

    Playing Apparent Losers

I blame luck, either yours or mine. It just sits oddly with me. If you all meet in a bar, as it were, and every potential player character is characterized at the same level, the person who has no obvious utility seems like... a bad idea to drag along. You occasionally get the "What kind of...

    Playing Apparent Losers

Ya, I ment if the whole party was that style of character. Plus, they have solid stats in what they needed. NPC experts that have skills that the players don't have also have the power to be of great help. I guess it's more like a definition problem. I consider looser characters as characters...

    MapTool 4e narrative-style game

    Playing Apparent Losers

Do you ever have more than one person trying to be the loser character? If so, does the game turn into a mystery men style game? Eh, I just have a long experience of people who play such characters with silly character flaws as making those flaws either go away instantly when it's really bad...

    Forked Thread: Playing Mary Sue

Sue's, as a general rule, have no weaknesses. Actual game systems tend to frown on that setup. You really need complete override control of reality to pull of a Sue true to form.

    Resource Management in RPGs

"Why hello good sir, it seems as though you have a large amount of things to carry! Might I interest you in a bag of holding IV? It can carry a truly stupendous amount of arrows and rations and it will fit on a normal backpack with narry a care! This problem of yours can be solved at the low low...

    Druids - Beast Form Rules

Can you power attack with a fireball? All beast form attacks are implement. Also, whilst in beast form, you CAN'T use any attack that isn't a beast form attack. So you can't make a weapon attack in beast from via that. The question is if they have staff fighting to make it a double weapon, do...

Sorcerous Blade Channeling and basic melee attacks

16 str dwarf with dwarven weapon training and a mordenkrad does 2d6+3+2 damage. That's close, right? And not a striker?

    Playing Apparent Losers

I played this one person with crazily bad rolled stats on this random custom system on OpenRPG. I then proceeded to raise the stats evenly as I leveled. Why? Cause random stats are unbalanced and their level up mechanic was messed up, so I needed to prove both and I rolled low. End result was...

What was your irratating DmPC's backstory?

Whilst reading the Mary Sue and Have you been overshadowed by some gm contrivance threads, it occurred to me that people do tend to have stories about that one gmpc that irritated the crap out of them. So, thus the question I ask for fun! What is the backstory/justification given to you by...

Clerics & Co. are Not MAD

The math works out to have scaling ac, one or 2 bad nad's and one or 2 good ones with a few exceptions. Thaneborn barbarians are a bit in front of the curve on nad's, as are monks. Warlocks don't scale ac, which is sad. Luckly, they just make sure they have the 13 str and con necessary to get...
